  • In Part 2 of the Kilimanjaro Series, Alex The Vagabond ascends the perilous Western Breach Route to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on the continent of Africa and the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at 19,341ft (5,895m).
The "Roof of Africa" is a mysterious volcanic land of rock and ice, where the air is thin and the dangers are plenty. Alex takes you on a 14-hour journey up the near-vertical Western Breach across a volcanic wasteland to a remote glacier field, into the crater of the volcano and finally to the summit of Kilimanjaro at Uhuru Peak. #MtKilimanjaro

      @evolutiontreksperu5313 Před 3 lety +6

Great video footage and edition, but what an awesome comment Mringi. It is not just that they are underpaid and overworked. These porters are part of a colonialist industry that takes advantage of their work and throws only crumbs at them. People like these bros make amazing videos and profit out of them, together with the owners of the tour operators that are mostly from western countries. In the meantime, porters don't have a decent salary or a humane place to sleep or proper food to eat. The maker of this video comes to a moment of realization where he seems to realize the meaning of life. However, that realization doesn't even touch on the awful way these porters are treated or his damn white privilege At least he had the courtesy to say thank you to those brave porters. The moment the porters become the center of these video adventures, both in practice and in theory, is the moment that the hiking industry becomes sustainable. In the meantime, keep using the porters for the nice footage.

Well done. This is both Inspirational and Spiritual. The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. The world and all that dwell therein, For He has founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the waters.
Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
    Nor sworn deceitfully. Psalm 24 v 1 - 4

Your words from 9:30 to 10:50 as you stood by the evaporating Glacier made me emotional.
Be very sad to see all those centuries of ice eventually disappear.
Thank you for taking us along to the peak of my favorite mountain as most of us would never ever climb it let alone see it with our own eyes.
    Thank you.

Stumbled upon your video - part 1 - and just kept on watching. Very well presented, really good videography and so happy you pay tribute to the great local warriors as well.
Your closing comments about the meaning I can only underscore......I summited Kili twice.......once with other adults in the family. And then I asked my kids, if they ever wanted to experience this magical place in Africa they should let me know when they'd be old enough.
Two of my three did and I accompanied them up Kili when they were in their upper teenage years and we lived the dream together. I am so grateful to the place, the people there and to my kids for having joined me.
Now I have to check out what other trips you have taken.................Stefan

I just spent a night in the crater, saw the ashpit, smelt the sulfer, and made it to the top..thanks to this video for the idea and inspiration to see this unique part of the world. (I skipped the western breach) . By far summitung Kili was the hardest thing I have ever done and I am truly grateful I went the extra to be in the crater. Sure I felt terrible, but to me the crater was so much more powerful than the summit alone. Not sure I ever want to camp at 19,000 feet again, but glad I did it. Thanks to this video for the inspiration and Kilimanjaro Experts for making it possible.

Man, I thank you for the brilliant documentary. It's unlike anything I've watched before. The presentation is awesome i.e. the simplicity but yet complex scientific explanation and stunning cinematography is amazing. For some of us who may never climb mount Kilimanjaro in our lifetime, this documentary is the nearest thing to scaling up this beautiful mountain. Thanks again for the good work and may the Lord continue to bless you. Amen!

Well done Alex, in many ways. You brought back many fond memories of my climb many years ago - the beauty, the simplicity and the challenge. If forces you to grab and rip all of your internal energy and strength to your body surface to reach the summit. A day that I will never forget. What beautiful visual stimulation to bring back such raw and positive emotions. Well done!

    Amazing video!!!
Had the laugh at the diamox. I was peeing every hour while on that. Got into a heated argument with my guide who said I shouldn't take it for the final climb and took it away from me. Ouf, did I have a hard time. Took me 7 hours from Barafu camp to make it to Stella Point, and then another hour to Uhuru. One of the hardest things I did in my life. I was taking a break every 2 minutes to catch my breath.
