- A NIGHT AT THE FILLMORE 20th Anniversary 1986 Concert featuring Joan Baez, The Chambers Brothers, Joe Cocker, Donovan, Country Joe McDonald, Steve Boone, John Sebastian, NRBQ, Sly & the Family Stone, Elvin Bishop, Paul Butterfield, Al Kooper, John Lee Hooker and Santana
one of the best gigs I went to was John Sebastian and a jug player at Manchester University. When he played Summer in the City an dcame to the bit where there are traffic noises on the record the small audience of about fifty, spontaneously made the car horn noises.. epic..
He's doing the best he can .. I'd like to see anyone with throat cancer singing any better,,,
after all these years, these guys still kick ass
I saw John perform at a park on Long Island NY a few years back - he's really lost his voice. It's a shame, really. The Lovin Spoonful were GREAT !!!
at least we still have Joe Butler (now the main vocalist for the Spoonful) who has a great voice and very similar to Sebastian's one
Well I find I still enjoy hearing/seeing him perform This was my favorite song the summer of year it was released...1966 or 67?? I had an 8 track player installed in my car & managed to run battery down a couple times. Haha silly teen as Dad wasn't too pleased my doing that!
Love this, very raw!
Just been playing through multiple versions of this Great Record.....but the vocals on this performance are DREADFUL!!!
John Sebastian gives props to the band at the end, it's NRBQ. The only other original Spoonful member on stage is Steve Boone on bass. John's voice is a shadow of what it once was, but he soldiers on as best he can even now (2017).
joey spampinato is on bass
cimachh was here at Sunday 12.07.2015 21 : 10 in Bosau Germany.
Für alle, die den Sommer in der Stadt verbringen müssen, oder wollen.
nrbq baby
well you know , sounchecks , interviews , travel ,too many gigs beforehand can take their toll.He might be a bit ropey yes, but even here you can hear that Sebastian tone behind his struggle , the one which sold the records!!
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
I agree that it's not the best version of the song here on youtube. Dreadful however is exaggerated. It is a live performance and just an historical document. This was part of the 1986 'Night at the Fillmore" 20th anniversary celebration. It's not even the original line-up of the Lovin Spoonful, I believe.
Only 2 of the originals Steve Boone and John. No Zal Yanovsky or Joe Butler... That's the original four!
Great song, not so great version. Amazing legendary musicians should review their performances periodically to maintain integrity of their performance, as well as assure the legacy of the original composition. JMO.
Hey, they played it with A LOT of heart! Excellent version, imho.
The 2 pac of camels a day have taken it's toll on Sebastian voice.
Voice is gone he can’t reach the highs anymore. Sad but old age comes to everybody.
I've learned later that he was suffering from throat cancer at the time.
@@nokewan that’s so sad 😞 poor guy had some good years of singing those songs great tunes that we all came to love and enjoy yet still today.
That is John Sebastian, not the Lovin’ Spoonful
You're right . I've changed it.
Diehard 3
21st century!
It’s a pity!
Is this pre or post throat cancer for Sebastian?
Post
Dat kann man sich ja nit jeben!
He had throat cancer ?? That explains it.
No, he didn't
