  • In this video I am making the gearbox output shaft out rigger support bearing and extended sprocket for my four cylinder Kawasaki S1 550cc engine. This modification allows the engine to be re positioned centrally in the frame and for the chain to line up with the front and rear sprocket. Hope you enjoy the video
    best regards

    I love how he only uses relatively basic tools (in engineering terms) with no fancy CAD drawings or CNC machines. It makes it seem that any of us could do what he does. However I’m sure anyone watching this that has done any of this kind of work before would agree, Allen’s craftsmanship is other worldly. Honestly, who in their right mind would think they could cut through an engine casing straight and true with a HACKSAW?!?! Allen Millyard would, and I am in total awe 😎😎😎

    Someone , in a previous video, asked how 61 people could possibly give it a thumbs down. My own theory is that they are unable to overlook the multitudinous "just perfect" and "really pleased" utterances which Allen is prone to making. Personally, given the unbelievable workmanship, so simply explained, plus of course Tracey's baking and the hedgehogs, all combine to far outweigh any negative thoughts I might have. So I say, carry on with your just perfect videos, Allen, I'm always really pleased to watch many of them again and again.

      I don't think it's true that youths today are not interested in manual work. As a former secondary school D&T (aka 'shop') teacher, there was nothing the children liked better than making things with their own hands. Tragically, Technology departments in UK schools have changed with the introduction of CNC machines, reducing opportunities for genuine hands-on work with wood and metal.

    • @doctordapp
      @doctordapp Před 2 lety +1

      @@ParaBellum2024 for sure the real hand work is 'downgraded'.
      But what the problem here in the Netherlands is is different...
      Here you can get higher education or manual education.
      What I mis here in technical schooling is the point that people who are manually skilled and have a good functioning brain have to choose between hands and brains.
      While in the real world the 2 always need to be combined.
      So the people who leave school here are very good labor people, without much knowledge or people with lots of knowledge without understanding the practical world (the managers😋)

One of my pals rebuilds certain vintage Japanese bikes & he tells me it can take all day to film just a few minutes of edited, finished video, obviously depending on complexity & number of shots required so that it can be seen well enough that a customer can do it themselves. Well, you made that look easy and my feeling of ineptitude is stronger with this video. Won't stop me from enjoying! Great job. We are quickly loosing the "Allens" of this world and are doomed to a world of "famous" Tik Tokers.

    It’s just amazing how crude some of Allen’s techniques and processes may seem like cutting things with a hand hack saw and basically just doing everything by hand, but he’s such a master of his craft and such an incredible engineer that he will just amaze you every time. How did nobody ever hire him to design new motorcycles after seeing what he can do with pieces of old ones?

    I would not have thought of aligning the final drive shaft and rear sprocket like that. It does raise the question of the time needed to change the gearing (4 cylinder bike not 3 cylinders) and the work associated with replacing a worn sprocket. Nonetheless, awesome.
