Norton Nemesis V8 rebuild - Episode 6
In this video I take a look at the oil pump (I didn't film the whole process as I was excited to proceed and completely forgot) , pan strainer and starter clutch sorting out a few problems and rectifying faults as I find them.
Note: All parts will be thoroughly cleaned before final assembly so any debris seen under macro cinimatography in this video will be cleaned off later.
The Norton Nemeses is a pre production prototype that was made in the late 90's with claims of a 200+mph top speed from its 1500cc fuel injected V8 engine.
As far as I'm aware, this is the only bike that has survived but if any of you know of other bikes please leave a comment. This bike is owned by the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham UK has been on display as a non running exhibit for many years.
I have already worked on the bike last year getting the engine to run after a few rudimentary checks, new oil and batteries for series 12 of Henry Cole's "The Motorbike Show" where Henry rode it for a few miles up to around 50 mph, but it wasn't running very well and was leaking a lot of oil and coolant.
Episodes of "The Motorbike show" can be seen on itvx player on line and some shorter edits are available on Henrys CZcams channel.
Over the coming months I will be stripping the bike to sort out a few issues with the V8 engine and hopefully make it run and ride how it was intended 25 years ago.

So whats making the 180 sound so much better/deeper/throatier/lopier than the 100s? Bigger bore obviously has a little to do with it but ive never seen that drastic of a difference in sound from my experience with big bore kits on singles and twins..

Years from now, after Allen dies of old age and too many rich chocolate cupcakes, and his engines end up in museums of turn of the century technology, some curators are going to be mystified, as Kawasaki have no record of any such 4 cyl 2-stroke. And they just won't believe they were made by cutting up second-hand engines in a tiny backyard shed with bare minimum tooling. I would love to know what Kawasaki engineers think of it.

Your videos remind me of my father and grandfather who were great craftsman too and by whom I was taught practically everything I know (not pretending anything though). So many cars and motorcycles were restored and driven and sold, I really miss that time but looking at your fantastic projects carried out in your little shed brings that time to mind again. Absolutely fantastic.

Hi Allen, halfway through and this is grinding my gears! Not from your refurbishment but from the design form over function, i am a development technician who will take a concept into prototype, highlighting potential issues in a production environment, the front end is over engineered to the detriment of ease of use and maintenance ,so many red flags ! of course it is a concept bike however it seems that some design engineers never left there office to see the reality unfolding on the shop floor which i personally find all too often😢

@@AllenMillyard It won't necessarily seize a piston or crack a cylinder. It can but what I was trying to get across to readers are that it's the Achilles heal of a triple. Especially the H2 because Kawasaki basically used H1 500 cases and added much larger cylinder heads, thus the 750 H2. I'm mostly referring to a triple that's run wide open for long periods of time or in racing conditions at 6000 to 8500 rpm in very hot ambient exterior temps. Remember! Heat is the enemy to engines. Especially air cooled two strokers. We usually ran a slightly colder plug in center cylinder and go down one jet size on center carb ( richer). You won't lose any significant power and will insure that the center cylinder will last a long time before a top end rebuild is needed. Keep em on full throttle boys and stomp those 1000's 4 strokers!!

Yours is a superlative attention to detail and finish. Watching you work in such a focused, relaxed expression of craftmanship is a joy. I have been binge-watching your work on this project and it has surprised me that the fitters who have previously worked on this machine have produced such a carelessly finished product. Much of the welding looks like the welds were left unfinished. Slap happy would be a suitable description of their effort with a disregard for quality assurance by the quality assurance supervisor. "Near enough" seems to be "good enough" for the inspector (If there was one), especially on those parts that are unseen after the final assembly. Beautiful work to provide a remedy, Allen. .
