How nice to hear that special Hippie sound, I had never heard this song, I came here looking for the title of a modern version that I heard, how good to hear Manfred Mann again.
I remember this song very well. A fellow classmate and I had a hit with this one in the schoolyard singing it to the girls in our class. We both stayed up late secretly listening to Radio Luxembourg under the blanket. - so we knew the songs even before they were released here in Norway. We had several "hits" this way - but this one is the one I remember the most. I remember we thought it was : "She went to the corner leading down to the river... " Didn't quite make sense... but what the hell. Glad I was raised in more happier times - when a good melody was all it took to brighten up our days. There were so many good, melodic songs around in the late 60's and early 70's while I was a kid.
I am one of these people who just loves all pop and rock music from about 1964 right through to about 1992. I was born in 1976 yet have a connection to the song, as it was played on all the stations well in to the 1980s and then on the oldies stations now. Great music never dates.
this song takes me back to February 1969 when the charts had the Bonzos , Stevie Wonder , Bee Gees , the move , Amen Corner etc..etc but this song was a Christmas hangover from 1968 & was a peach of a record......like a fox on the run ........10 out of 10.
I so envy you to have lived through the times when these songs came out fresh... I came too late to the party - missed it by two decades and quite some latitude to the West.
I am so glad to find this song here :-) It is totally magical, I've loved it since the first time I heard it (a few years ago, on a real old cassette!)
@@trfesok Totally lol i think 3 -4 yr olds are way harder than the so called terrible 2s! and I guess you dont have to be named Fox to be like a Fox on the run! ..but in saying that my Fox is always on the run!
I was born in 2002 ... But I love music from the 60s 70s 80s 90s. After that there are just some songs I like.... And nowadays it's mostly just some crap
What an amazing sound, What an amazing song, What an incredible band. Buying a record with pocket money and playing it over and over. Voices were better, Guitars sounded so much better too .The songs of the sixties and early seventies were almost like they were written just for the individual with so many meanings fitting into all our lives. Being young in the sixties especially with the summer of love leaves you with such memories and knowledge that we were so lucky and it will never be repeated. Oh .. don't forget girlfriends too.
I like the bluegrass versions, but they miss the complexity of the original.. the change from minor to major keys. Not all that complex really. Also the key change(s) towards the end, ascending keys.
love this song...great version. Barenaked Ladies do a good version too (after the initial song, they do a remix of it takes two and bird on a wire...its a fun one).
And to be more precise: They sing: "... she took all the love that a poor boy could give her and left me to die like a fox on the run..." Nice greetings from southern Germany!
Hi Tony, Congrats on this composition - it is a great favourite from my childhood. I was a guitar-nut about 12-13 when this was a hit in Australia. I remember hearing Fox on the Run on the radio it many times on a long car trip from Melbourne to Sydney that Summer. Every town had a radio station and it seemed that they were all playing it. Wonderful lyrics about the mysteries of romance still to come, a great melody (love a good minor chord!) superb harmonies too. Was your version like this?
Thanks Manfred Mann and janschro and All that's Yours!🙂😁 Yeah well, "Her Hair shone like Gold..." Beliievably Familar it's Only Purpose so Pls allow me All but the Compromising of y'all's Tiny or don't?😁
Hey janschro I posted here before but just wanted to say thanks for the comment back, this is probably in my top favorite Manfred Mann songs. Only problem is I want to find the vinyl Lp with this song, but dont know which one it was. Do you or anyone out there know of a U.S. lp with this song? Still love the vid, and song!
a further comment I want to make is to answer that this performed by Manfred mann,s first group . The Earth band is his next group he formed . People like Chris Thompson were not involved in the original mann band so they only perform earth band numbers like JOY BRINGER & not pretty flamingo!!!!!!!..........
Great song, great video, thanks for posting! As I am German, could anybody please tell me WHO is supposed to die like a fox on the run- the golden-hair-girl who leaves or the poor boy left behind? I have been trying to find out for 40 years now...Thank you!
Why don't Manfred Mann's Earth Band perform it on stage ? ( also "My name is Jack" , "Ha ha said the clown" and others ) They only sing some covers . Putting me off getting tickets .
You need to see The Manfreds. They perform all the classics like those you mention and it's a really good show. Tight musicians who love what they do, and engage with their audience - be prepared to sing along.
I absolutely LOVE this 60s classic! They don't make 'em like this anymore, guys.
Oh to go back to that time and stay there, unlike today in 2023
Manfred Man sang many memorable sixties classics
I was born in 1986 but man, I love it.
Great song.
Mein absolutes lieblingslied. ❤
I'm a child of the 80's but this is real music ✌️ I luv it when my parents hear that kind of songs 😍
Good old Time
This is a fantastic song! Why can't they make them like now.
this song is etched into me in my early teens. Thanks.

Es ist doch wirklich ein schönes Lied. Da geht einem das Herz auf!

Great song!
Heres to all of us who have been in the situation that this wonderful song describes! All too many times!
Best version. Manfred Mann was too cool.
They deserved to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
I am so glad to find this song here :-) It is totally magical, I've loved it since the first time I heard it (a few years ago, on a real old cassette!)
My son Fox wanted to hear this he is 3 and he loves it lol....its very catchy we sing it a lot. Great music from back in the day still awesome!
At that age, they're ALL like foxes on the run! I had a hard time keeping up with mine at 3!

Great high school memory song. Class of 1970
+John Rodriguez Class of 72, and oh the memories this band brings back. Good times.Still love this music as much as I did then.
+jackie simmons the bluegrass one before this one was better
it might have been better for you but for us in England in 1969 this was tops and written by a lad from liverpool Tony Hazard my place of birth
The very best MM song!
I grew up knowing this as a bluegrass song, which I love. I then found the original, which I also love. Great song.
I like the bluegrass versions, but they miss the complexity of the original.. the change from minor to major keys. Not all that complex really. Also the key change(s) towards the end, ascending keys.
For some strange reason this song just started dancing thru my head, so I had to listen to it!
Love this song.

I found myself singing this for no reason as I must have all those years ago, so here I am :)
We were on a cruise & they brought it up on Trivia. So here we are.Ah to feel young again.
Same here, its been in my head for years...
Great 60's music
Fox on the Run
Manfred Mann
She walked through the corn leading down to the river.
Her hair shone like gold in the hot morning sun.
She took all the love that a poor boy could give her
And left me to die like the fox on the run. Like the fox (like the fox, like the fox) on the run. Everybody knows the reason for the fall
When woman tempted man down in paradise's hall.
This woman tempted me all right, then took me for a ride
But like the lonely fox I need a place to hide. Like the fox (like the fox, like the fox) on the run.Come take… Come take a glass of wine and fortify your soul.
We'll talk about the world and friends we used to know.
I'll illustrate, a girl put me on the floor.
The game is nearly up, the hounds are at my door. Like the fox (like the fox, like the fox) on the run.

Both are really good.
Elképesztően jó szám... Évtizedekkel megelőzte a korát...
Became a big hit among Bluegrass Groups! Manfred Mann may have released this song but Bluegrass Bands saved it!
It didn't need saving, Manfred Mann reached the top-ten in Europe with it.
Love this song, hard to find on a vinyl right now. Cool video, like the fox pics!
Manfred Man = Fox on the run 🐺🐺🏃🏃

this should have been the theme tune to the defunct bbc 1show wildlife on 1.
And to be more precise: They sing: "... she took all the love that a poor boy could give her and left me to die like a fox on the run..."

It was already out January 1969.
november 1968 in england

This song has so many sexual innuendos I love it .
I don't see any sexual innuendos in it.
@@exploringmind7648 no I don't see any either but I hear quite a few lmfao
@@blueberryriver3220 look at the words on paper, you're hearing things that aren't there.

Ella Sanella the boy left behind
"Fox on The Run" er med gruppen Manfred Mann og er fra februar 1969
Guess it's definitely the boy
me too! but this is ok
We should do bobbytraps for the toffs who go hunting these beauitiful animals
I'm no fan of the toffs but the truth is fewer foxes were killed when hunting was allowed
Why don't Manfred Mann's Earth Band perform it on stage ? ( also "My name is Jack" , "Ha ha said the clown" and others ) They only sing some covers . Putting me off getting tickets .

Probably because they are a different band now...singing songs by the old band doesn't interest them
You need to see The Manfreds. They perform all the classics like those you mention and it's a really good show. Tight musicians who love what they do, and engage with their audience - be prepared to sing along.
do not go to there concerts they just playing home made music and not top of the pop
Bluegrass is indeed better
