  • Whenever a new Lego castle set comes out my first question is what easter eggs did Lego put into it. My second question is how does this connect to the greater Castle world. Well today I am going to answer those exact questions with the new Medieval Town Square, and how it connects to the Lion Knights Castle.

There’s also an advert for the set that says it’s “Only a cheese throw from Lion Knights Castle”, that the catchphrase of the town is “Come for the atmosphere- stay for the cheese!”, that the tree is a “High Tech Info Hub”, that the Wolfpack member’s goal in the set is to steal the cooling pie, and that the goats also act as guards!

I agree, this goat looks dangerous. Made of stone and all! I am sure it will be extremely resistant to arrows and swords (not so much to sledge hammers).

I can't believe how long that new black knights logo went unnoticed until someone pointed it out.
I'm hoping for a BK set and at least the Royal Knights king to make a return.

While I am skeptical regarding Lego Castle - at least in my country / Europe site D&D set sold like crazy, sold out first day, meaning they either had a low quantity or it sold really well despite the BAD price tag, meaning they might pivot to D&D sets - I wish, hope and insist on them making at least 1 remake every year (like the Eldorado fortress or ideas sets like the viking village and this village). Black Knight's castle remake should be next (the old school set is expensive as all, 5K euro sealed) - the Lego group mentioned they keep an eye on how expensive old pieces get, and when something makes it to more than reasonable, and has popular appeal, they will remake it - here's hoping for the dragon plumes, shields, the whole color palette and so on!
I do wish they do wise up and make small little battle packs with all the currently reworked factions (maybe add in some new alternate torsos as well) so we can all collect and buy armies like there's no tomorrow for a decent price. I think I've been asking since the lion knights castle for 2-3 knights / peasants / bandits / forestmen + 1 or more animals depending on size + some additional weapons or even a small build (balista, campaign tent, war room map table, stands, a field of pumpkins, carrots, lettuce, whatever peasants cultivated) for 1- to 15 euro - everyone would be buying these like the SW battle packs. NO STICKERS, this could be a nice way to work in some prints like those letters they missed the mark on in this set (the different sealed letters are a no brainer for a proper castle world - to be honest, I didn't even think about wanting them until I saw the designs on this here and I was so sad they weren't printed pieces).

I don’t think the Royal Knight’s King Richard will make a return as I think they’re defining each theme as a different time period. Could be a return with a descending king of Richard though. (Although irl Richard the Lionheart had no children)

Maybe the guard has a letter from the Black Falcons to let him know they're passing through to the castle, as we see in the 90th anniversary set. Also glad to see the Black Knights logo pointed out in this video.

About the letter from the Black Falcon and the guard, I wonder why LEGO put those big mustaches on the guard... and I imagine the guard may be a Black Falcon agent in disguise...

I think that maybe the Fright Knights will team up with the Lions and Black Falcons against the Black Knights, and Basil was writing to the queen to warn her.

I caught an interesting thing relating to the tax collector working for the king: A) maybe the single mother queen re-married B Maybe she retired and her son is now King C) Maybe the already shady and corrupt tax man works for the "Black Monarch" (as you've noticed, there is a black knights letter - or dragon knights, but it's likelier to be the black knights). Also note there was a joust set with the black and lion knights way back when (and the alternate models present a wedding between the princess / noblewoman there and a black knight and a wedding feast - there might be something to this black knight king-ish thing, or just that he's the monarch of another close land). - what I am trying to say is that the designer might have accidentally leaked some fancy plot developments in the near future (I think we are all foaming at the mouth for a black monarch castle in the style of the eldorado fortress (maybe bigger ? ).
This ties to the king Richard portrait as well. My take on this is that, unless they were different factions (and I think they weren't, because lion knights, black falcons and black knights were all under the castle banner - only the forestmen, dragons and wolfpack had a separate category if I remember correctly from the lego catalogs) the royal knights with King Richard are a succession of the combined forces of the black knights and lion knights (a marriage alliance to make peace after their war and be able to fend off the dragon knights and black forest - but they still succumbed to the vile and twisted !!!plots of the evil hag Willa!!! , who's been manipulating everybody all along - from the early crusaders and her cousin Magisto to make war on the lowlands to basil and then even the royal knights - all dancing on her spider strings like puppets! mwahaha ! - or lego just made stuff up that makes no sense and couldn't have gine 2 cents for the story at all back then ... and people are infighting for no reason. I do prefer my interpretation of this though.
Thing is, this all could be after a ... close call defeat of Willa that happened a while ago (king Richard might be the current queens father or brother or even grandfather) and after they defeated the witch, things went back to normal, everyone split up, and are now living peacefully - for a while (for a dark shadow is lurking, the undead are rising from the old and barren country of Bricksilvania and sightings of Basil and his now probably undead dragon are getting more and more frequent, maybe that's why Majisto visited the queen, to gather support for the coming conflict, maybe the falcon knights are trying to get into the royal throne with a marriage, maybe the forestmen are doing the same trying to infiltrate the cute little forestmen girl into the palace and woe the child prince, the wolfpack marauders are back, stealing from the poor and I am sure that lone dragon knight might be what's left of the old dragon order who came along with Majisto to help him at his old age as part of some knightly dragon oath - oh the possibilities are endless here. Game of thrones opening music on the background!
My take on the tax collector's booklet image - could be either the black or lion knight, but I don't think it's a lore book, it's a tax book and that image is there to say something (what I think it's meant to be is a "by order of the lord / king / queen / authority we may not yet know but has a fancy horse and sword picture I hereby collect taxes unto thee! " - because peasants may have been literarily challenged).

@@Illuminatic Yes, but Lagenaria was, and LEGO doesn't have a piece for that. My point though, is merely that MOST LIKELY it is meant as parsnip in a castle set, and Daikon radish in a CNY set.

I hope that whenever they do a Fright Knights set (or gift with purchase or whatever), they lean into the fantastical elements of the Castle world. I'd love a Castlevania-style vampire tower for Basil, or an alchemical workshop with Willa - or heck, just a full-scale haunted castle.
