I met Lynn Swann in Philly when he was running for governor and I instantly turned into that 4th grader in North Jersey watching his first Super Bowl in 1976. I told him the inspiration he’d been growing up in the 70’s. Great man!

I've seen a lot of great receivers but I still haven't seen anyone perform at a higher level than Lynn Swann. You can speculate whether or not Rice, Moss, Calvin, Irvin, or other receivers may have made those catches, but the fact is that Swann MADE those catches. He also didn't use stickum or gloves.

Claude White Hey C... I couldn’t agree with you more. Watching Lynn Swann was such a treat back when he played. The guy was like watching a ballet, and what better name for a receiver...Swann.

You're absolutely spot on. I look back at young fans today in all sports. Their idols are the Lebrons and Curry's of the world. Mine was Swann. When I laced up my shoes and went outside in the streets of Detroit and played from sun up to sundown, I literally thought I was Swann. I HAD to make every single catch, or I went into a deep state of depression....lol

Great game by Lynn Swann! Anthony Carter also made some incredible catches in the 1987 Divisional Playoff for the Vikings in SF. Swann did it on the biggest stage.

Plus the rules weren't the sissie rules we see today. He earned those catches through blood, sweat and tears

Dallas was ABSOLUTE GARBAGE in the second half until Pittsburgh got up 21-10. But had it not been for John Fitzgerald’s inability to snap the ball to roger and Preston Pearson’s inability to get out of bounds Dallas absolutely could have scored on their last drive and won the game.

When Jerry Rice, who appeared on the Arsenio Hall Show, was asked the question, by Arsenio, "Who was the greatest receiver you have ever saw?", Jerry responded with, "Lynn Swan!". Need anything more be said...

Great tough players back in those days....everyone got hit and there wasn't ridiculously bad calls for hitting the QB....QBs these days are so protected and the receivers are so protected it's ruined the game....and really hurts the way defenses can play.

He got hurt by the explosion of passing that started in the 80s. In the 70s the NFL career record for catches was in the 500s. The coming explosion of passing made the numbers put up in the 60s and 70s look anemic. You have to judge a player based on what he did in his era.
