Agreed. Feels like working class folks are getting priced out of football in general but especially these championship games. We played a none-too-small role in making football what it is today and now we can't even afford to park at the stadium.
I think I was in eighth grade when this game was played. I was a huge Rams fan. Cried my eyeballs out. Hated the Steelers for the longest time. But I've come to realize that both teams played the game the right way. My team happened to lose. No shame in that. And congratulations to the Steelers.
I was in 8th Grade too but a Steelers fan. The Rams could not overcome the two 4Q bombs from Bradshaw to Stallworth and the devastating Ferragamo pick late in the 4Q.
I hate that NFL Films highlights that this Rams team was 9-7. They WERE NOT a bad team. Like the Raiders before them, they were consistent winners in the 1970's but just couldn't break through. They were pretty consistent winners throughout the 1970's and 1980's, and in the second half of the 1960's.
that entire Rams defense were a bunch of bad asses... they don't get the respect that other defenses got in the same era, but based entirely on the numbers, the L.A Rams organization fielded the best defense in football the first 14 seasons of the super bowl era, leading up to this game..

There are other linebackers in nfl history who have more career qb sacks then Lawrence Taylor ,but their impact isn't superior then his ,the visual dominance a captive audience can observe he performed , and the psychological oppression he imposed upon offenses can't be fully measured by numbers ,same criteria with the great Steelers ,Dolphins ,Cowboys and Colts 1970,71 defense in comparison to the Rams superb defense . Staunch supporters of the Rams defense being the best during that era continuously make the assessment about the Rams statistical Defensive ranking ,but selectively ignore the complete narrative of the Rams Defensive units failures in post season which would devalue the content of them being apex over other great defenses that routinely made the big plays in conference championship games to assist their team to eventually going on to win a SB ,make multiple SB appearances " colts 1968,1970 " Dolphins "71,72,73" Cowboys " 7O,71,75,77, Steelers" 74,75,78,79" you can't objectively erase what the success of these defenses in post season ,which along with they're regular season great exploits makes them better then the Rams .
Bradshaw told a great story about the end of this game when the Steelers were about to score its final TD near the goal line. Terry said he was looking around the stadium taking it all in because he knew he'd never be back to a Super Bowl and that the dynasty was over.
he also said the Steelers had a ton of respect for the Rams going into this game...Bradshaw and co. never beat the L.A Rams, losing to them in 71, 75 & 78...he said in the 4th quarter, there was a nervous feeling on the Steelers sidelines of "here we go again, these guys have our number"...
Yea that was pretty much it, they made the playoffs for a few more seasons and even the Championship game in 84 but it wasn't the same. Bradshaw also was almost done after this, he played through 1983 but a terrible elbow injury made him ineffective the last ew years.
That team on paper in 1980 might have been the most talented team the Steelers had. I believe key injuries kept them from even making the playoffs early in the year and they never recovered. The dynasty I think ended in that 6-0 Thursday night loss in Houston.
A great, great game... One of the very last without that Corporate feel. And the NFL narration via Facenda and Spence (RIP , Both) was perfect. The Rams, forever bridesmaids in the 70's (Four NFC Championship losses to Dallas and Minnesota) finished with a 9-7 regular season record, edging out the New Orleans Saints. In the Playoffs they beat my Cowboys on a late-game bomb, then beat Tampa Bay 9-0 in the NFC Championship (Buc QB Doug Williams left the game early with an injury). They played their hearts out in this Super Bowl - Jack Youngblood played on a broken leg!!! But those Steelers in the 1970s... Man. They seemed to always do what they needed to do when it mattered most. You made one mistake - as Vince Ferragamo did - and they made you pay. As much as Bradshaw deserved the MVP, the guy on the other end of those bombs (John Stallworth) could have easily gotten it. This game ended an incredible 20 year era of football that seemed more competitively pure than the years that followed. Don't get me wrong, I love the NFL today. But it seemed to mean a little more to the players back then.

I had 3 of my coaches in college at RMU part of this game. Robin Cole & John Banazak on the Steelers & Dan Radakovich coaching the Rams. Coach Cole is such a great man I still talk to today!
One likely reason why Robin Cole played on such a level in SB XIV was that it was his homecoming. He was an L.A. native who attended Compton High School (c/o '73).
i was at the game. 19 years old.flew in from NY--had 103 fever, but never miss it. my dad got the tickets. i remember those reflective placards they gave out to the fans. they left out of this video, the amazing catch of swann's at mid field. i could not believe --no one could!--that the rams were up at the end of the third quarter. i don't think the rams could believe it. i still see stallworth's touchdown in my mind. i remember each big play. remember what it felt like watching it live. to this day, when i see a video like this, i'm still rooting for the rams to pull it out. damn!
One of my favorites of these. Al Wisk, the Rams announcer, is great here. "Tiiiiiime runs out...in the third quarter of play...fifteen minutes of football remain...the crowd on its feet at the Rose Bowl....the score...the Rams 19 and the Steelers 17..." The late Steve Sabol must have grinned when he heard that. I have seen this a thousand times and i still get chills. If I am Al Wisk this is my phone ringer.
from 1973- to 1978, the 6 seasons before this one, the Rams had a combined record of 66-19, which was the best in pro football...i think they already won respect around the NFL before this super bowl..
I was 9 and this was a year before I started following sports. I remember the game playing in the background while my dad was playing poker with my uncles. Shame I didn't realize what was happening.
I was also 12 and as a huge sports fan pulling hard for the LA Rams. Almost did it. Until that last interception by Steelers I was thinking Rams 26 24.
For over 40 years this WAS the closet we got to a home Super Bowl. The Rams were playing their final season at The Colosseum in 1979 and moved to Anaheim Stadium in 1980.

Lynn swan and John Stallworth the greatest receivers I ever saw. There circus and incredible catches were a thing of beauty. I am not a Steelers fan but really admired them
I think this has always been my favorite SB Highlight show ever. First off, it truly was a great game. It included the team of the 70's, facing a perennial contender. Add to that the great John Facenda, reading the tremendous writing of NFL Films, and you have a winner. Plus the music! Oh, and the colors that popped, thanks to the game being played at Pasadena. Everything works here.
This is easily the most underrated of the Super Bowls. The deceptive final score makes a lot of people forget, that this David and Goliath battle was hanging in the balance until Bradshaw hit Stallworth with the second bomb, with 4 minutes left. A truly great game, easily top 10 Super Bowl. Sports Illustrated cover was spot on: "This one, was really Super." This might be the best of the Super Bowl highlights. Superb musical selections. A cinematic looking panaroma (it was played in Hollywood). To top it off, the incomparable John Facenda reciting immortal lines, from what probably is the best Super Bowl highlight script ever written. Joe Greene said of the Steelers trip to Pasadena: "This was an invitation engraved in gold. An invitation to IMMORTALITY." The Steelers consecrated their ascension as the best team ever with this, their 4th title in 6 years.
I was 14 when this game was played. I have been a life long Rams fan and this was ther 1st appearance in the Super Bowl. I was devistated when they lost. Was nearly 20 years before they made another Super Bowl appearance but they won and what a great feeling it was.
I remember this game very well. The Steelers deserved the championship but the Rams put up one hell of a fight. This was the toughest test for Pittsburgh in a Superbowl. Even more so then the two against the Cowboys. Up until midway through the fourth quarter the Rams actually outplayed the Steelers. The fourth quarter Ferragamo interception was key. The Rams were moving the ball and you had the feeling they were going to score and take the lead again. The one thing that sticks out for me is remembering just how close of a game this was and that what we all witnessed in the end was the greatest team ever, the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers.
Paul Zimmerman has a great article about how the Steelers were on fumes (age, injuries years of extra games in post season), were outplayed but just knew how to win. I thought Bud Carson made his D fearless (his departure still baffles me). Steelers fans had to have a sense that one for the thumb was going to be difficult. Rams weren't that great,, 5-6 at one point and got lucky in the playoffs. Those Stallworth bombs were desperation.
i grew up as a los angeles rams fan and even though they are still to this day the only 9-7 team to make a super bowl they gave probably the greatest football dynasty all it could handle that day and earned the country's respect in the process
I always thought that Stallworth should have been the MVP of this one. It would have been cool to say that the Steelers have 4 Super Bowl wide receiver MVPs..... Swann, Stallworth, Ward & Holmes.
Yeah, I hear you. If you watch the complete game, during the 4th Quarter Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshier are discussing their MVP picks. "Stallworth," Summerall says. "Not Bradshaw?" Brookshier asks. "I would pick Bradshaw if not for the interceptions," Summerall says. "Well," Brookshier says, "I guess it's a pretty good choice either way."
Pretty sure that in SBs 10,13 and 14,Terry Bradshaw had 8 TDs for 320 yards, that's 40 yards per TD and I think Swann and Stallworth own the highest and 3rd highest yard per completion average in SB history, it wasn't just one quarter in 1 game
I believe had Bradshaw targeted Stallworth more in the Super Bowl than he did Swann(Stallworth caught 70 passes to Swann's 41 in regular season), Stallworth would've been the MVP
Ironically, Swann was having a better day than Stallworth but was knocked out of the game due to a concussion in the 3rd quarter. The smooth Stallworth unfortunately for the Rams was just as difficult to handle. The L A Rams were much better than their 9-7 record but the Steelers cemented being the best team of the decade with the win.
11:37, my enduring memory of that game. After this game, the next fall, Howard Cosell proclaimed that 'the wheels had come off the Pittsburgh Steelers' during a dreary Monday Night Football broadcast. XIV was one for the ages if you were a Steelers fan.
A bit of fun trivia: one of only two Super Bowls where the site hosted a "home" team. The Rose Bowl in Pasadena is in the greater LA area, and five years later the 49ers played in nearby Stanford, CA. Still never had a team play a Super Bowl in their official home stadium.

Adding to the California theme, Vince Ferragamo was the quarterback of the Rams, taking over for the often injured Pat Haden. Haden would go on to be the AD at USC. When Haden retired, no other than his ex teammate and former Steelers Hall of Famer Lynn Swann would take over.
The Steelers were still the same tough steelers but they would soon discover that their opponents were definitely not the same old Rams. How awesome is that? I'll tell you, really awesome!
Out of all the Steelers SB victories, I enjoyed the Steelers vs. Rams the most. Sure a lot of fans will say that Steelers vs. Cowboys were the most exciting. Maybe Super Bowl X may be among the best. But I thought SB XIII was a bit overrated. Sure Dallas made the game interesting when they made their comeback orchestrated by Captain Comeback himself in Roger Staubach. But the Steelers built an 18 point cushion late in the 2nd. half. Despite one mistake, the Steelers were managing the clock and it worked. With the Steelers vs. Rams, it was an amazing story between these two teams. The Steelers going for back-to-back wins. And the Rams playing in the Rose Bowl - practically in their own back yard. And the love Rams fans showed for their team (I always remember the Rams fan with the visor covering his face most likely in tears when it was apparent that the Rams were going to lose - I loved the classic NFL Films. They knew how to combine many football game stories involving the players and fans). Despite the eventual outcome from the game, Steelers players had nothing but huge respect for the Rams. It's so nice seeing Jack Lambert one of the most intense players to ever play the game seeking out Jack Youngblood at the end of the game. Jack Youngblood played with the heart of a champion with a broken leg.

in 25 seasons, from 1966 to 1990, the L.A Rams compiled the 3rd highest win total in all of pro football...in that quarter of a century only the Raiders and Cowboys had more wins..it is without question, the greatest 25 years in NFL history for an organization that didn't win a SB...now, you can try and oversimplify the argument in your favor by harping on the fact that they didn't win a SB, but that just illustrates your lack of intelligence and nuance about the matter..
of course the Steelers had huge respect for the Rams, as did the entire NFL...remember, leading up to this SB the Rams had an all time record of 11-1-1 against the Steelers...and Bradshaw and co. never beat the Rams, going 0-3 against them..that's why the narrative of this NFL films is a little bit misleading, making statements like, "the same old Rams", and "the Rams had no heart"...any body who knows football will tell you that the Rams were one of the most consistently competitive teams the decade leading up to this SB..
This Super Bowl was one of the better ones played even though there was a 12 point margin at the end. The Rams played the Steelers tight for 3 1/2 quarters and had a very real chance to win the game but for a Ferragamo INT toss to Lambert.
L E On that play when Lambert intercepted, Billy Waddy was wide open. Which probably would have meant the Steelers winning by five instead of 12. The final 12 point margin deceptively hides what a close game this really was, as neither team led by more that five points until Pittsburgh scored their last TD with two minutes left. The lead actually changed hands six times, and had Ferragamo seen Waddy there might have been 8 lead changes. Given the tenor of the game, the outcome was very much up in the air until that late interception. Even though I was disappointed that the Rams lost that Super Bowl, in my mind no other super bowl comes close to being as exciting as that one was.

The full game of Super Bowl 14 was once on CZcams and I hope it is brought back again sometime. I have been a Los Angeles Rams fan for years and enjoy watching a Super Bowl game like this, even though my team lost it, the Rams I remember sure put up a fight in that game.
Mo Overall Fitness Hacks both catches by Stallworth were perfectly thrown balls, but the actual catches were spectacular. The first was caught over the opposite shoulder. It looked easy, but as Tom Brookside pointed out during the telecast, it's a incredible catch because your momentum is fading you one way, and you have to locate, turn, catch, all without slowing down and keeping your natural stride. The second was even more spectacular. He had to do the same thing, but this time the ball came down on top of him with no chance for YAC. Both times the ball had to be perfectly thrown, and both times it was. Stallworth s catches were every bit as good as Swanns Super Bowl X and his own in XIII. Even in today's era of football, you can't underestimate the importance of 1. Having a QB who can throw deep. 2. Having a receiver that can get deep, and outrun the DB. 3. A coaching staff, that will call the the play.
One coach that FINALLY deciphered the Steel Curtain code was Don Coryell. In 1979 his Chargers mauled Pittsburgh 35-7. The next year "Air Coryell" again beat them soundly 26-17. 2 years later his Chargers went to Pittsburgh and beat them again in the playoffs 31-28, effectively ending the Steeler Dynasty.

Air Coryell was an intense coach, but that 1979 loss was a California away game...Steelers never seemed to play well in California during regular season games....in 1980, the Dynasty was already over, the defense was old, tired and hurt all the time. 1981 they began to retire or be released. In fact, the defense was almost decimated with injuries in 1979. So, had Coryell and Fouts met the Steelers before 1977, it probably would have been a different result. Steeler front 4 used to drool when they played against a pocket passer. Later, they had to rely on the blitz to apply pressure. THAT is when Coryell was able to beat them. But, non the less, yes, he figured out their blitzing scheme and was able to neutralize them enough to beat them, especially that 1982 playoff game, where the Chargers scored 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to pull out the victory. Very exciting team those Coryell Chargers were though.
Well, perhaps you are correct. Being a Dallas fan i was a bit jealous of the Steel Curtain. I think we have to acknowledge that the Steel Curtain of the 70's was the greatest defense of all-time, and it was.

The Rams had always played Pitts tough but the Steelers moreso feared the fact that Bud Carson was the Rams' defensive coordinator. Carson had put together the original 'Steel Curtain' defense and they knew his defensive game plan for them would be stifling. Age and injuries finally caught up with the Steelers but that great team gave me a lifetime of thrills and it was such fun to watch as a Pittsburgher who remembered the years of torment and failure. 👍👍👍🙌🙌🙌

I love how at the 20-minute mark, we hear the announcer say Pittsburgh just wants to chew up the clock, when we just heard Chuck Noll advise Bradshaw to go deep. Then we see Brad hit Stallworth for a 45-yard bomb. Wrong call, announcer!

Like Eddie George in SB XXXIV, Franco is credited with a short TD run when his knee was down before the ball crossed the plane. That's why Jim Youngblood was so heated. And all those years, I thought it was because of the bogus DPI called prior to the scoring play.
Watched this Live, every down as a Massive Steelers fan. Now a Rams Fan!! (I became a Rams fan The day Marshall Faulk got traded to the 4-12 Rams team in 1999.). Strange to rewatch this now with that change!

@@sickofguysnamedtodd2293 Exactly. The best example of that is the SB at the end of the 2007 season where the 10-6 Giants beat the undefeated Patriots. Perfect example of how important matchups are. The Giants were able to get pressure on Brady without blitzing and that was the Patriots biggest weakness.

Agreed. Feels like working class folks are getting priced out of football in general but especially these championship games. We played a none-too-small role in making football what it is today and now we can't even afford to park at the stadium.
I think I was in eighth grade when this game was played. I was a huge Rams fan. Cried my eyeballs out. Hated the Steelers for the longest time. But I've come to realize that both teams played the game the right way. My team happened to lose. No shame in that. And congratulations to the Steelers.

I was in 8th Grade too but a Steelers fan. The Rams could not overcome the two 4Q bombs from Bradshaw to Stallworth and the devastating Ferragamo pick late in the 4Q.
I hate that NFL Films highlights that this Rams team was 9-7. They WERE NOT a bad team. Like the Raiders before them, they were consistent winners in the 1970's but just couldn't break through. They were pretty consistent winners throughout the 1970's and 1980's, and in the second half of the 1960's.

that entire Rams defense were a bunch of bad asses... they don't get the respect that other defenses got in the same era, but based entirely on the numbers, the L.A Rams organization fielded the best defense in football the first 14 seasons of the super bowl era, leading up to this game..
Youngblood even played in the Pro Bowl the following week with that broken leg!

Bradshaw told a great story about the end of this game when the Steelers were about to score its final TD near the goal line. Terry said he was looking around the stadium taking it all in because he knew he'd never be back to a Super Bowl and that the dynasty was over.
he also said the Steelers had a ton of respect for the Rams going into this game...Bradshaw and co. never beat the L.A Rams, losing to them in 71, 75 & 78...he said in the 4th quarter, there was a nervous feeling on the Steelers sidelines of "here we go again, these guys have our number"...

Yea that was pretty much it, they made the playoffs for a few more seasons and even the Championship game in 84 but it wasn't the same. Bradshaw also was almost done after this, he played through 1983 but a terrible elbow injury made him ineffective the last ew years.
That team on paper in 1980 might have been the most talented team the Steelers had. I believe key injuries kept them from even making the playoffs early in the year and they never recovered. The dynasty I think ended in that 6-0 Thursday night loss in Houston.
A great, great game... One of the very last without that Corporate feel. And the NFL narration via Facenda and Spence (RIP , Both) was perfect.
The Rams, forever bridesmaids in the 70's (Four NFC Championship losses to Dallas and Minnesota) finished with a 9-7 regular season record, edging out the New Orleans Saints. In the Playoffs they beat my Cowboys on a late-game bomb, then beat Tampa Bay 9-0 in the NFC Championship (Buc QB Doug Williams left the game early with an injury). They played their hearts out in this Super Bowl - Jack Youngblood played on a broken leg!!!
But those Steelers in the 1970s... Man. They seemed to always do what they needed to do when it mattered most. You made one mistake - as Vince Ferragamo did - and they made you pay.
As much as Bradshaw deserved the MVP, the guy on the other end of those bombs (John Stallworth) could have easily gotten it. This game ended an incredible 20 year era of football that seemed more competitively pure than the years that followed. Don't get me wrong, I love the NFL today. But it seemed to mean a little more to the players back then.

I had 3 of my coaches in college at RMU part of this game. Robin Cole & John Banazak on the Steelers & Dan Radakovich coaching the Rams. Coach Cole is such a great man I still talk to today!
One likely reason why Robin Cole played on such a level in SB XIV was that it was his homecoming. He was an L.A. native who attended Compton High School (c/o '73).

i was at the game. 19 years old.flew in from NY--had 103 fever, but never miss it. my dad got the tickets. i remember those reflective placards they gave out to the fans. they left out of this video, the amazing catch of swann's at mid field. i could not believe --no one could!--that the rams were up at the end of the third quarter. i don't think the rams could believe it. i still see stallworth's touchdown in my mind. i remember each big play. remember what it felt like watching it live. to this day, when i see a video like this, i'm still rooting for the rams to pull it out. damn!

I was 12 years old. I remember it like it was yesterday. This game is very underrated in the history of Super Bowls at least as far as I'm concerned.
I was 9 and this was a year before I started following sports. I remember the game playing in the background while my dad was playing poker with my uncles. Shame I didn't realize what was happening.
I was 19. Underrated Super Bowl. As a Rams fan and our owner Carrol Rosenbloom who died that year they fought their asses off.
I was also 12 and as a huge sports fan pulling hard for the LA Rams. Almost did it. Until that last interception by Steelers I was thinking Rams 26 24.
I was 6 yrs old in the 1st grade and I remember this Super Bowl. 2 yrs later my 49ers won their 1st World Title.
Truly underrated. A huge upset brewing until almost the end, not to mention all the lead changes and the cool halfback option by the Rams.
It took 42 years, but we FINALLY got that Lombardi here in Los Angeles! Horns up! Let’s go!!!!!

For over 40 years this WAS the closet we got to a home Super Bowl. The Rams were playing their final season at The Colosseum in 1979 and moved to Anaheim Stadium in 1980.

I think this has always been my favorite SB Highlight show ever. First off, it truly was a great game. It included the team of the 70's, facing a perennial contender. Add to that the great John Facenda, reading the tremendous writing of NFL Films, and you have a winner. Plus the music! Oh, and the colors that popped, thanks to the game being played at Pasadena. Everything works here.
That 73 Yard Bomb to John Stallworth turned Super Biwl XIV around for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The deceptive final score makes a lot of people forget, that this David and Goliath battle was hanging in the balance until Bradshaw hit Stallworth with the second bomb, with 4 minutes left.

I was 14 when this game was played. I have been a life long Rams fan and this was ther 1st appearance in the Super Bowl. I was devistated when they lost. Was nearly 20 years before they made another Super Bowl appearance but they won and what a great feeling it was.

I remember this game very well. The Steelers deserved the championship but the Rams put up one hell of a fight. This was the toughest test for Pittsburgh in a Superbowl. Even more so then the two against the Cowboys. Up until midway through the fourth quarter the Rams actually outplayed the Steelers. The fourth quarter Ferragamo interception was key. The Rams were moving the ball and you had the feeling they were going to score and take the lead again. The one thing that sticks out for me is remembering just how close of a game this was and that what we all witnessed in the end was the greatest team ever, the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers.

Paul Zimmerman has a great article about how the Steelers were on fumes (age, injuries years of extra games in post season), were outplayed but just knew how to win. I thought Bud Carson made his D fearless (his departure still baffles me). Steelers fans had to have a sense that one for the thumb was going to be difficult. Rams weren't that great,, 5-6 at one point and got lucky in the playoffs. Those Stallworth bombs were desperation.
i grew up as a los angeles rams fan and even though they are still to this day the only 9-7 team to make a super bowl they gave probably the greatest football dynasty all it could handle that day and earned the country's respect in the process

Yeah, I hear you. If you watch the complete game, during the 4th Quarter Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshier are discussing their MVP picks. "Stallworth," Summerall says. "Not Bradshaw?" Brookshier asks. "I would pick Bradshaw if not for the interceptions," Summerall says. "Well," Brookshier says, "I guess it's a pretty good choice either way."
Good observation. Stallworth is in the HOF in part because of his performance in the 4th quarter of Super Bowl XIV.
Pretty sure that in SBs 10,13 and 14,Terry Bradshaw had 8 TDs for 320 yards, that's 40 yards per TD and I think Swann and Stallworth own the highest and 3rd highest yard per completion average in SB history, it wasn't just one quarter in 1 game
I believe had Bradshaw targeted Stallworth more in the Super Bowl than he did Swann(Stallworth caught 70 passes to Swann's 41 in regular season), Stallworth would've been the MVP
Ironically, Swann was having a better day than Stallworth but was knocked out of the game due to a concussion in the 3rd quarter. The smooth Stallworth unfortunately for the Rams was just as difficult to handle. The L A Rams were much better than their 9-7 record but the Steelers cemented being the best team of the decade with the win.
The writing and John's narration of same, made this the greatest SB highlight film of all time. Downright emotional.
If you know the story behind it, Al Wisk, the Rams radio announcer, had one of the greatest play by play radio calls of ALL TIME.

A bit of fun trivia: one of only two Super Bowls where the site hosted a "home" team. The Rose Bowl in Pasadena is in the greater LA area, and five years later the 49ers played in nearby Stanford, CA. Still never had a team play a Super Bowl in their official home stadium.

Adding to the California theme, Vince Ferragamo was the quarterback of the Rams, taking over for the often injured Pat Haden. Haden would go on to be the AD at USC. When Haden retired, no other than his ex teammate and former Steelers Hall of Famer Lynn Swann would take over.

Out of all the Steelers SB victories, I enjoyed the Steelers vs. Rams the most. Sure a lot of fans will say that Steelers vs. Cowboys were the most exciting. Maybe Super Bowl X may be among the best. But I thought SB XIII was a bit overrated. Sure Dallas made the game interesting when they made their comeback orchestrated by Captain Comeback himself in Roger Staubach. But the Steelers built an 18 point cushion late in the 2nd. half. Despite one mistake, the Steelers were managing the clock and it worked. With the Steelers vs. Rams, it was an amazing story between these two teams. The Steelers going for back-to-back wins. And the Rams playing in the Rose Bowl - practically in their own back yard. And the love Rams fans showed for their team (I always remember the Rams fan with the visor covering his face most likely in tears when it was apparent that the Rams were going to lose - I loved the classic NFL Films. They knew how to combine many football game stories involving the players and fans). Despite the eventual outcome from the game, Steelers players had nothing but huge respect for the Rams. It's so nice seeing Jack Lambert one of the most intense players to ever play the game seeking out Jack Youngblood at the end of the game. Jack Youngblood played with the heart of a champion with a broken leg.

The Rams always played the Steelers tough in their glory years...they showed a lot of grit...Pitts pulled away late but that was one hell of a battle.
This Super Bowl was one of the better ones played even though there was a 12 point margin at the end. The Rams played the Steelers tight for 3 1/2 quarters and had a very real chance to win the game but for a Ferragamo INT toss to Lambert.
This superbowl reminds me of superbowl 30. Really good game but the final score doesn't show it
L E On that play when Lambert intercepted, Billy Waddy was wide open. Which probably would have meant the Steelers winning by five instead of 12. The final 12 point margin deceptively hides what a close game this really was, as neither team led by more that five points until Pittsburgh scored their last TD with two minutes left. The lead actually changed hands six times, and had Ferragamo seen Waddy there might have been 8 lead changes. Given the tenor of the game, the outcome was very much up in the air until that late interception. Even though I was disappointed that the Rams lost that Super Bowl, in my mind no other super bowl comes close to being as exciting as that one was.

The full game of Super Bowl 14 was once on CZcams and I hope it is brought back again sometime. I have been a Los Angeles Rams fan for years and enjoy watching a Super Bowl game like this, even though my team lost it, the Rams I remember sure put up a fight in that game.

Mo Overall Fitness Hacks both catches by Stallworth were perfectly thrown balls, but the actual catches were spectacular. The first was caught over the opposite shoulder. It looked easy, but as Tom Brookside pointed out during the telecast, it's a incredible catch because your momentum is fading you one way, and you have to locate, turn, catch, all without slowing down and keeping your natural stride. The second was even more spectacular. He had to do the same thing, but this time the ball came down on top of him with no chance for YAC. Both times the ball had to be perfectly thrown, and both times it was. Stallworth s catches were every bit as good as Swanns Super Bowl X and his own in XIII. Even in today's era of football, you can't underestimate the importance of 1. Having a QB who can throw deep. 2. Having a receiver that can get deep, and outrun the DB. 3. A coaching staff, that will call the the play.
Spryfol II Swann's TD in this game was impressive too, the way he timed his leap elevated, and fantastic body control.

One coach that FINALLY deciphered the Steel Curtain code was Don Coryell. In 1979 his Chargers mauled Pittsburgh 35-7. The next year "Air Coryell" again beat them soundly 26-17. 2 years later his Chargers went to Pittsburgh and beat them again in the playoffs 31-28, effectively ending the Steeler Dynasty.

Air Coryell was an intense coach, but that 1979 loss was a California away game...Steelers never seemed to play well in California during regular season games....in 1980, the Dynasty was already over, the defense was old, tired and hurt all the time. 1981 they began to retire or be released. In fact, the defense was almost decimated with injuries in 1979. So, had Coryell and Fouts met the Steelers before 1977, it probably would have been a different result. Steeler front 4 used to drool when they played against a pocket passer. Later, they had to rely on the blitz to apply pressure. THAT is when Coryell was able to beat them. But, non the less, yes, he figured out their blitzing scheme and was able to neutralize them enough to beat them, especially that 1982 playoff game, where the Chargers scored 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to pull out the victory. Very exciting team those Coryell Chargers were though.

Well, perhaps you are correct. Being a Dallas fan i was a bit jealous of the Steel Curtain. I think we have to acknowledge that the Steel Curtain of the 70's was the greatest defense of all-time, and it was.
+Rick Maroni Most of those guys had been together, some for 10 years, so they were getting up there in the years and it was time to retire. Same thing happened to the Packers by the late 1960s. But 4 Super Bowls for the Steelers in the 70s was a helluva run, can't complain.

The Rams had always played Pitts tough but the Steelers moreso feared the fact that Bud Carson was the Rams' defensive coordinator.
Carson had put together the original 'Steel Curtain' defense and they knew his defensive game plan for them would be stifling.
Age and injuries finally caught up with the Steelers but that great team gave me a lifetime of thrills and it was such fun to watch as a Pittsburgher who remembered the years of torment and failure. 👍👍👍🙌🙌🙌

one of the difficulties the Steelers had in this game is that former Steeler coaches were now Rams coaches and new Steeler plays.

I'm not a PittsBurgh Steeler fan, but John Facenda's narration was the Best. I like it @ 21:52--21:58 where he says," The Rams Won Respect, but the PittsBurgh Steelers Won another World Championship!"
John Facenda was litterally the voice of the NFL. It almost feels wrong listening to any NFL documentary without him in it.

Like Eddie George in SB XXXIV, Franco is credited with a short TD run when his knee was down before the ball crossed the plane. That's why Jim Youngblood was so heated. And all those years, I thought it was because of the bogus DPI called prior to the scoring play.

9-7 was good enough to get them to the playoffs and once you’re there, everyone is 0-0 and anything can happen.
@@sickofguysnamedtodd2293 Exactly. The best example of that is the SB at the end of the 2007 season where the 10-6 Giants beat the undefeated Patriots. Perfect example of how important matchups are. The Giants were able to get pressure on Brady without blitzing and that was the Patriots biggest weakness.
