I know this is an old video, but I wanted to hook up my ps2 again just to get that rush of nostalgia-- but my memory card wouldn't read. Happened to find this video, and it's amazing that this advice worked like a charm! My memory card read instantly once I cleaned it like so! Thanks a lot man! 🙏🏾

What a lifesaver..
I didn't uncrewed the memory card.. I added some window cleaner (I didn't had rubbing alcohol) on one of those Q-tips and started cleaning the inside of the memory card. All my saved files are recovered now 👍

The advice helped. With so many years of buildup however, I did have to use a drop or two of rubbing alcohol, but it helped the eraser take off the dirt soon after.
I bought a bootleg memory card. Those are the only cheap ones available. I pushed it in hard and it finally read. Thanks man.
dose it also fix the problem i got a ps2 from my cousion last night i am buying it from him and he had a memory card in a box for a long time and he gave me the memory card with the console i am playing a game right now on the ps2 and am trying to save my date so i do not lose any of it it keeps saying when i try to save my game that there is not a memory card inserted in the slot

Holy shit thank you! I have had to restart Champions of Norrath several times and the last time we got pretty far with a friend. I'm glad all those hours didn't go to waste and I can enjoy that great game again.

what will i do if the game that i am saving is corrupted..there are se games that is always corrupted whenever i save them in my memory card.

My official ps2 memory card gets detected but accessing it through browser asks me to format it then an error not formatted comes up. Ive tried cleaning even reflowing sime of the solder joints on the pcb would it just be chips then that are fucked?
Thanks a lot mate, I heard rattling in my memory card and it had me worried. But when I took it apart, it was just a rattling tiny pin from the plastic cover that doesn't matter
Do you think this will work even when the system recognizes the memory card as long as there's no disc inserted? I can look at the memory card and its contents but when I go to save something in game, it won't read that the memory card is inserted

I don't know the exact size but a tiny flat head or philips will do the trick.

you just saved a treasure trove of historical childhood THUG saves, I mean literally an entire memory card full of them. The Nostalgia is real, I thought it was lost forever!

Please answer: Today i decided to play madden 07 with my memory card in slot 1, what happened was that the game data went empty. I dont know if it went corrupt because i saved the data the day prior. Now it wont save any ps2 game, any explanation?

When I opened my memory card I noticed that the PCB slides in there a little. The pins that should prevent that had broken over time and if I try to put the memory card in, the card goes in but the PCB slides back and doesn't make a contact. Now lets see how I'll go about fixing this one.

Do you know anything about corrupted files? DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 won't load for me because it says save might be corrupted. I copied the save file onto the other memory card and it still doesn't work.

I try to play guitar hero 2 and it says unformatted memory card. Format? I press yes and it says format error. I also try browsing the memory card, it shows that there is a memory card, but when I press x it does nothing! And yes, I tried a regular ps2 controller.
I found a crack in it. I got a new one luckily so im good now. I couldn't take trying to fix it anymore.
This worked. However when I'm trying to save the game, it freezes, until I remove the memory card then it works again??? (Vice city)

I have another one I tried to save with this method, it shows up in the browser menu, but as soon as you click on it just automatically returns to the menu. I'm just going to assume its fucked through other causes...

Thanks so much for this. My memory card was not even being recognized/ detected in my PS2 before i followed your instructions. It unfortunately didn't fix my card to make it usable, but when I put it in after taking off the gunk, my PS2 detected my memory card. I just couldn't save anything to it.
Maybe its time to get a new replacement card
@ProjectPhoenixMedia oh yeah 1 step ahead of you. I purchased a new one a week ago and just started playing Alias again. I loved that game as a kid... playing I as an adult is so weird but very fun.
How does a person tell if it's an official memory card? The card I have has a little inscription "MagicGate". Wonder if that makes any difference? I also have to remember my ps2 system is probably fifteen or twenty years old. Haven't had any problem with it. Yet.

Got a memory card from my son and it had a bunch of games on it that I don't like so I deleted it all and now it just tells me no data but it won't do anything else it just says no data and I can't play any game what do I do
So you deleted the files, but when you try to make new save files, the memory card won't take it? Maybe its old and is corrupted. Could try the old school pencil eraser trick, but not sure what else can do if it doesn't. Worst case buy a new memory card

Open the memory card and see if the circuit board moved? You want to reposition it so its near the edge.

thank you very much for the video it works, awile ago someone from my work give me a ps2 for free with afcourse a memory card, but the card was not working and i could'nt save my game so for that reason i haven't played on my ps2, but now it fully works again. and now i am able to save my game progress.
