I grew up in Florida and spent a decade in NC. I literally left 90% of my fam there to escape the Absolutely pyschotic nonsense that is NC. It's wholly ran and owned by white Nationalist Fascist theocrats ,aka Dominionists who are hellbent on turning the state into a christian version of ISIS Caliphate, and they'll stop at nothing to get it.
They would rather die than allow us BIPOC and LGBTQ even any small amount of equality or say in laws I'm never going back. Florida is also ovverun with the same racist Traitorous domestic terrorists, and yeah, I'm done. From a fellow Carolinian (first time I've used that word) -
I worry more about LGBT friends now than 20 years ago, but we do love our state. NC became a rich state back when working together Republicans and Democrats raised taxes. For decades they put tax money into education and infrastructure. Besides universities we have 58 community colleges that cheaply trained workers mainly for manufacturing. With high gasoline taxes we built an interstates system very attractive to industries. Also, with all the covid money handed out NC now has a 5 billion dollar surplus in our general fund that will be used to reduce taxes on the rich while unemployment payouts are stopped. Our current Democrat governor is as disadvantaged as Obama was with a Republican congress who controlled how are tax dollars are spent. With illegal gerrymandering and voter suppression Republican state legislators are set to sweep the midterms across our country. I admire and support all those fighting voter suppression, but people in my state who vote consistently in each primary and general election in their gerrymandered districts will support Republicans. The idea low taxes will improve NC economy and life is as false as Reagan's trickle down theory. In the meanwhile our rural hospitals are closing and country people will continue to support politicians that don't respect them. Progressive country people like me are not a voting block. Yet!

I don’t understand why people don’t try understanding those that think differently? Try to se their rationale….try to argue their own point calmly, try to see things from a different perspective? It could actually be fun.
We can totally have different views but that doesn’t mean we need to yell, insult or hurt anyone.

The candidate who hired Dowless to pump up his vote was a preacher (might be a faulty memory there) and his son is an attorney. When it came to court the candidate saw his son and realized that he would ruin his son's career, so he ran away off the witness stand crying. Preachers cry pretty easily, though. He dropped his pursuit of office and we just didn't have a congressman from that district for a while. It took some time for everybody to get adjusted and run the race with another candidate.

When I was in college from 2003-2007, the state was red. Once they began sending all registered voters ballots by mail, it turned purple and then blue. We clearly still have crazy pockets, hence Lauren Boebert, but the larger portion of the population is sane. And out here, Republicans know it’s not worth complaining about the mail-in ballots for all because their base loves the simplicity and ease it brings; it started under Republicans and they know they’d get called out for trying to cancel it just because it led to them having more Democratic voters engaged in the process.
