Blake Barnett was a five star recruit, the #1 QB in his class and he made history at Alabama, but sadly he became the biggest QB bust in school history and his career as a whole did not go well! Today we will talk about the rise & fall of Blake Barnett, enjoy! - Zábava

Hey Scott. USF is not in Miami. USF is in Tampa, which is on the other side of the state and several hours away.
love your vids. dont know if u have a vid on guys that were walk-ons or low stars that went to big time school and became stars, first round draft picks. there has to be a few guys out there. keep killing it bra
i would have thought that this vid was going to be about Star Jackson tbh
I can tell you what happened. Lane Kiffin started him over Jalen Hurts in the USC game. The first series, the receivers dropped the first three passes. They were wide open and hit them in the hands. Jalen came in and the offense took off. Blake new he would't be playing at Bama and transferred. The look on Blake's face after the first two series let me know the players didn't have his back after dropping all those passes and let me know he knew it too .
dangg thats very sad
Yea I remember Ridley dropping the first pass that was behind him but he just didn’t look confident out there.
I was at that game, season opener at At&t. At the time i wondered why he got pulled so early but after Jalen showed he was That Dude, its easy to forget. Wonder what he wouldve done if he played the full game.
@@ScottFisherCFB Scott don't believe in this "forgetful", or out right lying guy. Nothing he said was right outside of the Calvin Ridley drop.
Barnett finished 5-6 for 100 with a TD in that game. His first 2 series he started 2-3. When Hurts got in he fumbled his first series, and went 3 and out his 2nd series. Lane decided to keep him in though.
For the record, I don't blame Barnett for leaving. Hurts was a true freshman and waiting for him to screw up over a 2 year span was not ideal.
Bama fan here. He honestly looked so confused the entire time he was in during the USC game. I got the vibe he was struggling with remembering the playbook. He could have just been nervous. 🤷♀️
Remember following Blake during recruitment and until he got to Bama. Was a huge fan of his and wanted to him pan out but that’s not the way it went.
Also, hyped to see the boy get a sponsor that’s awesome to see. Keep up the good work!
Bag season 🤑🤑🤑🤑
It would seem the real "busts" were those who rated him so highly and those who failed to coach him up.
That’s a good point
That's most definitely true..
Cap bro got to COCKY
Great to see this guy can finally get sponsors, great work bro
Appreciate it! I went independent and i am picky, hence why it took so long!
I was a senior at Santiago when Blake was a freshman. I was pretty excited to finally have a note worthy athlete come from my HS (especially because literally all the FB talent goes to the HS 2 miles down the road with a national powerhouse team).
It really is a shame how things turned out for him.
I feel your pain our high school looses all of our talent to a school about 10 miles away and we are never good because all of our talent goes over there and we haven’t had a winning record in about 10 years; Our first year of our high school was 1998 and our talent stayed at our school and we made it to the 3rd round in the playoffs, then the next 2 years after that we made it to the playoffs ever since (2003) we’ve only had 1 or 2 winning seasons because our neighboring school takes our players by recruiting them and we really can’t succeed with the few maybe 2 or 3 actual athletes we get from our feeder middle school programs (we have 2 feeders) so we got a new coach and are starting to build up a team to beat them (they are our rival) which is kinda funny because because the last time we beat them was like 2013 but we are starting to build a team and be the underdogs this year. If you read this far your a real one🤣
Ay yo what hs are you talking about? The high school I go to has a story almost exactly like that with our football team
@@alexanderbrown3067 the powerhouse high school I'm referring to is Centennial High School in Corona, CA. I went to Santiago High School, which is just up the road from Centennial.
Before Jalen J. Coker was starting. I thought Blake would become a Legend had the size the arm and the Swag . He didn't make it to the NFL but he's winning in life. Good for him
Have you reviewed Arkansas' Mitch Mustain? Probably the most highly touted highschool QB to ever come out of Arkansas. Won a state championship at Springdale Highscool and went on to play for Arkansas before transferring to USC where he did absolutely... nothing. (For the record Houston Nutt ran Mitch off from Arkansas)
There’s already a documentary on Netflix about Mitch. It’s not bad.
Who could forget Mitch?! Ugh
That's not true. He held the clipboard.
Should it be "Arkansas's" since the second "s" is silent?
Mustain’s story is insane. He was in the era before 7-on-7 camps. Those camps are not only vetting talent, but are also vetting character.
Love your videos Scott!
I appreciate that!
I played against Blake Barnett in HS. We won 56-27 at home. Our QB was KJ Costello if you heard of him. To this day I still think Bama recruited the wrong QB
@Lilyodazt on PS4 that’d be the guy
Lmao no he had 1 good game whats he doing now lmao he won’t make it to the league
Can you do a prediction on who you think is going to make the playoff and who the top 10 teams in the ranking will be?
AJ McCarron doesn't get the respect he deserves im an LSU fan but AJ is one of the most memorable Bama QBs in my opinion form the last decade
Was a solid backup in Cincinnati and should have won that playoff game against Steelers. I had the opportunity to meet him and AJ was very polite and humble. Good dude all around.
Oh word ima need to cop tha manscape
I hate it for Barnett. I watched that USC Bama game and he just couldn't get it going but Hurts came in and fumbled the ball right away but it didn't get him down and Hurts goes on to have an amazing game and that's when it was over for Barnett at Bama and the beginning of the legendary Jalen Hurts then he would lose out to Tua in the same kind of fashion.
I was so excited for him. It was my freshman year at Alabama and we had the same last name. What was here not to like.
That's not Phillip Sims (as a UVA fan, I can attest that he was a bust for us too, so I feel your pain on that one, Bama fans)
USF is in Tampa, FL not Miami, FL
Reminds me of Kyle Wright from Miami. Both were highly touted and became major busts.
You should do a video on another bama qb who was a major bust. Qb star Jackson
You should do a video talking about trace mcsorley and tit should be called was he the greatest penn state QB
As a psu fan myself I agree
Even though he was already going downhill, I’m sure becoming a father in the midst of all that didn’t help.
I was concerned we had made a mistake pulling Blake so quickly in favor of Jalen. And yes it was a bit unfair to start a guy and then pull him after a couple of possessions. Blake came back into the game and made a big time NFL throw for a touchdown.
czcams.com/video/tffjg3uBxbk/video.html
By the Tennessee game nobody cared. Jalen was dominating with his legs. Now with 20/20 hindsight we know that Jalen was by far the better player. He almost won a Heisman and is playing pretty good ball in the NFL. Blake did little in his 2 stints with other programs.
This says a lot about Nick Saban and his feel for talent. Barnett was the #2 dual threat QB according to Rivals in 2015. Hurts was the #9 in 2016. To pull a prospect of that caliber for a younger guy that quickly is extraordinary. Most coaches would have stuck with Barnett for a few games at least. Jalen obviously impressed the coaches as an early enrollee in spring.
Jalen wasnt a good passer at Alabama. He was mostly a scrambler
@@Bmthighlightshe was better than sorry Greg McElroy and John Parker Wilson. Where are those 2 bums at these days.
I heard my boy braxtons name maybe you should do a video on him not really a rise and fall more of a fall and a rise cause he’s doing well at vt
Things have to line up for us... that goes for anything 🤷. We have to have the chips fall in our favor as well
Blake Barnett has become persona non grata the way he acted after getting benched for hurts in 2016.
I still remember watching his college decision video back in 2013 on Bleacher Report in an interview with Adam Lefkoe. Thought he was going to be the best thing to happen to Alabama. Life comes at you fast.
P.s. usf is not in Miami, it’s in Tampa (makes total sense, right?)
What I think about Blake Barnett was how he accomplish so much in NCAA I believe one day he’ll be back as another quarterback for the NFL or somewhere else I don’t think he’s a bust he’s got he still got it in him
What exactly did he accomplish in college football?
You could probably do a whole video on Bama's "fill-in" Qbs. Between McCarron & Hurts, there were several guys who managed at the position who were highly ranked recruits but never fulfilled their expectations (Cooper Bateman going from 4 star QB to 3rd Stringer at Utah). Between Blake Sims & Jake Coker, I'm pretty sure there was at least 1 National Championship.
Man, I'm dumb. I just realized you already did one of those.
David Cornwell too lol
Judging by his throwing motion I could have told you he would be a bust.
Lol I was wondering if I was the only person thinking that.
I also like Cincinnati, Miami, North Carolina . Some good fits but doubtful he’s go there include Georgia, Clemson, Iowa, Minn, Iowa St, TCU, UCLA, and Oregon.
If he had put in the patience, hard work and determination that most other QBs have to..He wouldn't have bizarrely decided to launch his career out of a cannon.
I remember him. Dude was an over college football flop🤦 all that talent and did not a whole lot with it
pretty much
i remember, perhaps incorrectly, opening day, waiting to see the great blake barnett, but instead seeing some nobody called "hurts". the i remember barnett showing up at south florida and being all stoked at having this great QB playing so near to where i lived . only he wasn't great at all and it was a stretch to even call him good. holy tate martell, batman!
I had so much faith in him
Do you have one on Josh Rosen?
Blake Barnett did not want to WAIT for his time at Alabama, so he left.....And he played himself right out of being an NFL QB.....He should have stayed at Alabama. He would have gotten his moment, but his immaturity and EGO messed up his football career.....along with an injury just when his eligibility was running out. OUCH.
Who should I do next?
Me obviously 😹😹🙏🏿‼️
Jake Coker pleaseee
How’d you figure McCarron instead of Trent Richardson brotha man?? @scottfisher
Lmfao never mind. Five seconds in, you explained the expectations. My badd 😂😂😂
Gary Pinkel vid 🙏🏼 How he turned so many 2-3 star guys into big time college players that graduated to playing on Sundays. His laundry list of nfl players is astounding, he had so many guys that became productive nfl players. The wide range of good players at several positions he put in the league is crazy, DL/TE/WR/RB/DB/LB/OL/QB. So much content you could break it down into 3 parts prob. You could get Into the magical year when we were #1. I was at Arrowhead for the 1vs2 matchup with KU, still to this day it’s in my top3 live sporting events and I’ve been a chiefs season ticket holder since 1997.
You should do one on garrett gilbert
Damn. I thought Hurts started that entire season. I didn't know about him.
You a 🐐
😌

hashtag bag season 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
Ayy
True freshman first game was against a good USC defense. Give him a break. He made NFL caliber throws in that game. The strike to for the Td was impressive and the throw to OJ was elite caliber. Deer in the headlights sure, for some players regardless of how talented you are the game is fast and the processing for a QB can become slow. Thats why you give them time, let them make their mistakes so the game can slow down and your natural talent takes over. They yanked him too fast. He did not look that bad to be yanked that fast. You have to have a growing up period. His ceiling was definitely higher than Jalen hurts, who years later would become the victim of the same situation with Tua. You wonder why Jalen handled it soo well, because he saw the mistakes Blake made being on the other end. As a player you have to go to a program regardless of your 4 or 5 ⭐ rating, choose a program with coaches who are willing to coach and teach and have patience with you as you mature as a player. You dont necessarily get that luxury regardless of your talent level at places like Bama because they are 3 or 4 deep with 4 ⭐ talent level or better at every position. So the coaches have the luxury of kicking you to the curb and moving to the next player, who could not be as talented or have a higher ceiling as you are, but they are playing and processing faster on the field than you are at that particular time in your young careers. I played D1 and I saw it first hand with another all time QB bust...Bobby Sablehaus...Great human being and in the end this is what REALLY matters...
Settled down in Miami, while going to school/playing in Tampa? That's helluva drive to make regularly.
Sucks how his college career panned out, but the kid might come on the scene with a vengeance if he’s interested in the sport.
Just a note, USF is in Tampa, not Miami
The real question is was Blake or Jeremy Johnson a bigger bust? I remember Jeremy coming out as one of the best two sport athletes we've seen in a long time. Both guys were just so damn mentally soft
Jeremy Johnson was very very very bad coming from an auburn fan... so was kiehl frazier
How could you not include the GOAT Jake Coker in the opening monologue
Calvin Ridley is from Florida idk if they were teammates in HS
Met at camps
Crazy now that he works with my dad
Should’ve went to Notre Dame ☘️🍀
Idk Star Jackson was wildly rated and ended up never seeing anything
oh my god scott showed his face
😂
I was always disappointed that Cooper Bateman never really got a shot....
His young wife probably thought she was hitched to a future multimillionaire NFL QB. Didn't quite turn out that way for her.
Yeah, the mentioning of his wife and child tells me he found himself distracted at a formative time in his life.
Might’ve missed the “long time gf” part. Assuming that she was only with him for potential money when you have no idea abt their relationship is a dick move.
@@GTgaming69 Oh, it was an assumption and it does come off kind of dickish. Didn't mean it that way; I was more commenting on how a lot of players in college are told they're the next "big thing" and that a ton of girls are into not only the Big Man on Campus thing but are looking for that future "#1 Draft Pick". At least that's what it was like according to the football players I knew from the dorm I lived in.
Lol, bad luck my foot. Blake just wasn't as good as people thought. Even in his best year 12 TDs to 11 ints is awful. A talented guy going to a lower level of football should be a playmaker. These were the teams he played that year;
9-4 Marshall
8-5 Houston
8-5 Temple
7-6 Georgia Tech
7-6 Tulane
4-8 Illinois
4-8 UMASS
3-9 E. Carolina
3-9 Tulsa
1-11 UCONN
FCS ELON
He missed both games vs the only 2 ranked opponents on the schedule.
Just call it like it is, he is one of the biggest, if not the biggest bust in recent history.
Should do Ian book
We played a “5⭐️“ QB n WR duo when I was a sophomore n everyone thought we were gonna get blown out due to them having big games being highly rated n we played them at their house
The QB threw 11 INTS 3 were run back for a td
He only had 1 td 12/67 n had 95 yards
The wr had 56 targets 35 yards
We won 56-22
Do a what happened to Cody Kessler
good one
@@ScottFisherCFB he was one of my favorite players along with peterman
Blake wasn’t bad, Jalen was just the guy the team favored. If Blake would’ve went to another school like Oregon or something, he would’ve been in the NFL.
How u gonna post that title during NNN
what
@@ScottFisherCFB it’s an internet joke lol
Maybe if Blake used Manscape he would have had better luck.
He looked like a deer in headlights game was too fast for him.
You did USF dirty by clearly not knowing where in Florida it’s located 😂😂😂. Go Bulls 🤘🏻
The portal wasn’t a thing when he transferred from Alabama
blake went to my rival high school (santiago hs) and they were the worst team in our league. he would literally show up to camps and just rip it.
Top of his throw looks odd
Oregon missed on all 3 and wound up with Braxton Burmeister. Sigh
12:23 USF is in Tampa not Miami different coast
He took his family to Miami after he transferred to USF? haha that would be quite the commute, USF is in Tampa Scott
ordering my weed whacker right now 🙏🏼
there ya go Jackson 🙂
I'm ordering my weed right now🤢
Btw USF isn’t in Miami, it’s in Tampa
Blake Sims started out as a Running Back
Anyone who dropped a pass sucks especially if they did it on purpose.
Starts at 2:50
Oregon made way more sense for that archetype of qb than Barnett. Alabama was and still sort of is a game manager qb school. Oregon was focused on big strong guys. And its a major plus if you have legs like Barnett did
Blake Barnett would have been a great starting qb for Oregon because the transferred qb Vernon Adams was terrible for Oregon in 2015.
However, Justin Hebert would have still committed to Oregon because he was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon. Justin Hebert would have won the starting qb job.
@@kennydoan2790 you’re probably right about that. But maybe Barnett being in that Oregon system does end up playing a lot better and the experienced Barnett manages to hold onto the job ahead of Justin Herbert
Either way, that would be an awesome wb room. Simply in terms of physical ability
No QB over the last 4 years have been game managers at BAMA.
This is the problem for many college players. They sign with their #1 school but lose their position competition and end up with no school on their list when they could have went with their #3-5 and have a great career
wrong, it's Eyabi Enoma. He's the 6th highest rated player to EVER commit to Alabama. I'm not sure he ever played a snap before transferring. Blake Barnett is definitely a bust but he's not even in the top 40 of all time recruits.
So if he would have went somewhere else and had a break out year then it's a fluke at Bama but dude looked like a deer in the headlights everywhere he went
USF is in Tampa
Is he related to Mitch Mustain?
These kids can’t handle competition, it’s sad
Should've went to the fight irish🍀imho
Notre Dame would have been his best option
You said he “settled in Miami” but USF in Tampa smh
Lmao USF is not in Miami, it’s almost five hours away in Tampa
you forgot all about jake coker and he actually won a national quarterback
Ikr
It happens. It just wasn’t meant to be him at Bama. He had never played against SEC level talent. Having lived in Texas for a while I can tell you that Jalen had played against major talent in high school
To bad it tookJalen hurts 2 and a half years to learn how to throw a ball.
@@chadmilligan342No it didn't, It took Hurts Going to Oklahoma to get some real coaching. Alabama was known for mediocre QBs. Hurts is better than Aj MCcCarro, Greg McElroy, and that other bum John Parke Wilson
@@lilcourtny08 no he played good before Oklahoma.
When he came in against Georgia when TUA got hurt he looked great so don’t give me that crap.
He didn’t look any better at Oklahoma he still couldn’t do anything against good teams.
How did he look against LSU in the playoffs 😂 ?
Like I said he looked like his self vs bad teams against good teams not so much.
So this BS about Jalen Hurts being good once he went to Oklahoma is not true at all .
He was the same quarterback against worse defenses in the Big 12 then.
Until he played LSU and got exposed bad.
So I really don’t know what your saying the only big game that he played great in was at Alabama vs Georgia in the sec championship.
What did he do at Oklahoma that he didn’t do at Alabama nothing is the answer he was no better at Oklahoma it is a fact.
People try to say hurts was better at Oklahoma at the time maybe because defenses then were no good in the Big 12 facts.
Tate Martel? Lmao
What's the next level for Alabama?
Barnett lost out to Coker, his first year (Coker led us to the Natty). There was no chance of him beating Hurts in his 2nd year.
Barnett redshirted his first year at Bama. The QB battle at the beginning of the 2015 season was between Cooper Bateman and Coker.
I didn’t think that he got a fair shake. Jarmo was confident but he couldn’t keep his eyes down field for running to the right until he Went out of bounds
What about Cooper Bateman?
Did one on him actually
@@ScottFisherCFB just watched it, good little video, you didn’t mention this, but it’s very interesting, Utah actually moved him to Receiver
You must not remember Star Jackson the 5 star before him
He should’ve played WR.
huh
Jarrett stidham went to auburn
baylor before auburn
USF is in Tampa…
Star Jackson
Phil sims
Dude thought that just bc he had it all, that everyone was gonna lay down & let him & Bama run over them.... nah... I was excited about this kid when I heard he committed & signed... then I watched him play vs USC in 2016... & I was oh no... he's not any good. Then, he left & I watched him suck ever where else too, so I was like okay, well it's just not us. Bama somewhat dodged a bullet there. Man... how college football would have been changed... hurts would have never been the starter... then Tua doesn't come & have a chance to unseat jalen... then Mac.... then bryce... gosh... 🤯
