    Blake Barnett was a five star recruit, the #1 QB in his class and he made history at Alabama, but sadly he became the biggest QB bust in school history and his career as a whole did not go well! Today we will talk about the rise & fall of Blake Barnett, enjoy!

    I can tell you what happened. Lane Kiffin started him over Jalen Hurts in the USC game. The first series, the receivers dropped the first three passes. They were wide open and hit them in the hands. Jalen came in and the offense took off. Blake new he would't be playing at Bama and transferred. The look on Blake's face after the first two series let me know the players didn't have his back after dropping all those passes and let me know he knew it too .

      @@ScottFisherCFB Scott don't believe in this "forgetful", or out right lying guy. Nothing he said was right outside of the Calvin Ridley drop.
      Barnett finished 5-6 for 100 with a TD in that game. His first 2 series he started 2-3. When Hurts got in he fumbled his first series, and went 3 and out his 2nd series. Lane decided to keep him in though.

      I feel your pain our high school looses all of our talent to a school about 10 miles away and we are never good because all of our talent goes over there and we haven’t had a winning record in about 10 years; Our first year of our high school was 1998 and our talent stayed at our school and we made it to the 3rd round in the playoffs, then the next 2 years after that we made it to the playoffs ever since (2003) we’ve only had 1 or 2 winning seasons because our neighboring school takes our players by recruiting them and we really can’t succeed with the few maybe 2 or 3 actual athletes we get from our feeder middle school programs (we have 2 feeders) so we got a new coach and are starting to build up a team to beat them (they are our rival) which is kinda funny because because the last time we beat them was like 2013 but we are starting to build a team and be the underdogs this year. I was concerned we had made a mistake pulling Blake so quickly in favor of Jalen. And yes it was a bit unfair to start a guy and then pull him after a couple of possessions. Blake came back into the game and made a big time NFL throw for a touchdown.
    czcams.com/video/tffjg3uBxbk/video.html
    By the Tennessee game nobody cared. Jalen was dominating with his legs. Now with 20/20 hindsight we know that Jalen was by far the better player. He almost won a Heisman and is playing pretty good ball in the NFL. Blake did little in his 2 stints with other programs.
    This says a lot about Nick Saban and his feel for talent. Barnett was the #2 dual threat QB according to Rivals in 2015. Hurts was the #9 in 2016. To pull a prospect of that caliber for a younger guy that quickly is extraordinary. Most coaches would have stuck with Barnett for a few games at least. Jalen obviously impressed the coaches as an early enrollee in spring.

    True freshman first game was against a good USC defense. Give him a break. He made NFL caliber throws in that game. The strike to for the Td was impressive and the throw to OJ was elite caliber. Deer in the headlights sure, for some players regardless of how talented you are the game is fast and the processing for a QB can become slow. Thats why you give them time, let them make their mistakes so the game can slow down and your natural talent takes over. They yanked him too fast. He did not look that bad to be yanked that fast. You have to have a growing up period. His ceiling was definitely higher than Jalen hurts, who years later would become the victim of the same situation with Tua. You wonder why Jalen handled it soo well, because he saw the mistakes Blake made being on the other end. As a player you have to go to a program regardless of your 4 or 5 ⭐ rating, choose a program with coaches who are willing to coach and teach and have patience with you as you mature as a player. You dont necessarily get that luxury regardless of your talent level at places like Bama because they are 3 or 4 deep with 4 ⭐ talent level or better at every position. So the coaches have the luxury of kicking you to the curb and moving to the next player, who could not be as talented or have a higher ceiling as you are, but they are playing and processing faster on the field than you are at that particular time in your young careers. I played D1 and I saw it first hand with another all time QB bust...Bobby Sablehaus...Great human being and in the end this is what REALLY matters...

    Oregon made way more sense for that archetype of qb than Barnett. Alabama was and still sort of is a game manager qb school. Oregon was focused on big strong guys. And its a major plus if you have legs like Barnett did

    • @kennydoan2790
      @kennydoan2790 Před 2 lety

      Blake Barnett would have been a great starting qb for Oregon because the transferred qb Vernon Adams was terrible for Oregon in 2015.

    • @kennydoan2790
      @kennydoan2790 Před 2 lety

      However, Justin Hebert would have still committed to Oregon because he was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon. Justin Hebert would have won the starting qb job.

    • @AdamKlownzinger
      @AdamKlownzinger Před 2 lety

      @@kennydoan2790 you’re probably right about that. But maybe Barnett being in that Oregon system does end up playing a lot better and the experienced Barnett manages to hold onto the job ahead of Justin Herbert
      Either way, that would be an awesome wb room. Simply in terms of physical ability

    This is the problem for many college players. They sign with their #1 school but lose their position competition and end up with no school on their list when they could have went with their #3-5 and have a great career

  • @lol4thand31
    @lol4thand31 Před 2 lety +2

    wrong, it's Eyabi Enoma. He's the 6th highest rated player to EVER commit to Alabama. I'm not sure he ever played a snap before transferring. Blake Barnett is definitely a bust but he's not even in the top 40 of all time recruits.

      @@chadmilligan342No it didn't, It took Hurts Going to Oklahoma to get some real coaching. Alabama was known for mediocre QBs. Hurts is better than Aj MCcCarro, Greg McElroy, and that other bum John Parke Wilson

      @chadmilligan342 Před 10 měsíci

      @@lilcourtny08 no he played good before Oklahoma.
      When he came in against Georgia when TUA got hurt he looked great so don’t give me that crap.
      He didn’t look any better at Oklahoma he still couldn’t do anything against good teams.
      How did he look against LSU in the playoffs 😂 ?
      Like I said he looked like his self vs bad teams against good teams not so much.
      So this BS about Jalen Hurts being good once he went to Oklahoma is not true at all .
      He was the same quarterback against worse defenses in the Big 12 then.
      Until he played LSU and got exposed bad.
      So I really don’t know what your saying the only big game that he played great in was at Alabama vs Georgia in the sec championship.
      What did he do at Oklahoma that he didn’t do at Alabama nothing is the answer he was no better at Oklahoma it is a fact.
      People try to say hurts was better at Oklahoma at the time maybe because defenses then were no good in the Big 12 facts.

    Dude thought that just bc he had it all, that everyone was gonna lay down & let him & Bama run over them.... nah... I was excited about this kid when I heard he committed & signed... then I watched him play vs USC in 2016... & I was oh no... he's not any good. Then, he left & I watched him suck ever where else too, so I was like okay, well it's just not us. Bama somewhat dodged a bullet there. Man... how college football would have been changed... hurts would have never been the starter... then Tua doesn't come & have a chance to unseat jalen... then Mac.... then bryce... gosh... 🤯
