From GENERATIONAL QB to BUST AT 4 SCHOOLS (What Happened to J.T. Daniels?)

  • Coming out of high school, J.T. Daniels was a five star recruit and a prodigy type player at the QB position. So much so that he was the starter at USC at only 17 years old, but after that, it was tough sledding for JT. He played at 4 different schools, struggled to stay healthy and never lived up to the hype. Today, we are going to be talking about the rise & fall of JT Daniels, his story and what is next for him, enjoy!

Re-classifying is tough already, but as a quarterback it is intensely difficult due to the demands of the position. I think I speak for most other WVU fans when I say we absolutely loved JT. He was a great teammate and was much better than the guy he was replacing in Jarrett Doege. However for a team that was in the middle of a long rebuild after pretty much being all but eliminated from bowl contention it just seemed like right idea to bench him for the younger guy in Garrett Greene. Greene would eventually break out and lead us to a 9-4 season this year after being picked to finish last in the big 12. Overall however, JT was a very good player for us and had some great moments as a mountaineer being a great player and mentor for Garrett. #HailWV

Stetson didn't really struggle except for two games in 2021. Struggled throughout the first half vs. Florida. But right near the end of the half Georgia scored three tds in a matter of minutes and the game was over. He struggled vs. Bama in the SECCG and lost. Most of the fans wanting JT were just questioning whether Stetson could win a title. But he played well that year. If he were struggling the way you claim here, JT would've gotten another look. JT got Wally Pipped and it proved the right move. Also, it was never really clear that season when JT was really ready to play. People need to understand QB rankings are based primarily on your arm and the throws you are able to make. Little to do with the processing/mental part of playing QB. It is simple, the QBs who are able to make NFL throws with proper velocity in high school are the most likely to go to the NFL. Same way 5 star recruits at other positions are based on the fact that the easiest players to project to the NFL already have NFL size and athleticism in HS. Little to do with skill/technique/IQ.

He made a HUGE mistake transferring to Georgia where he wasn't the named starter. A QB MUST get playing time to develop their skills. Spencer Rattler is the perfect example of how to choose the right school.

Unfortunately like a lot of football players, he just couldn't stay healthy. When he was healthy he was decent. I believe he intends on getting into coaching.

JT had the misfortune of playing for Clay Helton and he had a center who was totally unreliable. Probably about half the time he was fielding bad snaps in the shotgun. His biggest mistake was transferring from USC. He had the talent but not the patience to let things play out at USC.

It depends when these guys peak. Some peak in HS ( Spencer Rattler) , and some reach their peak in college. And others peak in their pro careers ( Tom Brady ).

The era from 2016-2018 was just bad for quarterbacks. JT Daniels was among the best quarterback prospects from a bad 2018 class. Trevor Lawrence was the number one rated quarterback prospect and Justin Fields was number two, but after that, none of the rest of the top quarterback prospects did much of anything in the NFL.

I think his main problem was he kept transferring which required him to learn so many systems.

Watched him at USC and then at Rice. When I first saw him at Rice I went, "Hey wait a second, I know this guy." He really was good at Rice. The team was overmatched, but with him they were able to win games. It was kind of like putting a pro player in with a bunch of low-level college guys (and McCaffrey). He was obviously far better than anyone else on the team. Most of the top QB prospects in the draft this year played on teams that were far better than most of their opponents. So sad that he got hurt AGAIN.
I don't call guys whose careers were ruined by injuries as busts, just unlucky. Bust is way overused. I've seen people label guys who had excellent careers starting in the NFL for 10 years labeled as busts. Quit doing that.

I dont feel he was a bust. He did fine at uga. The talent level at the other schools didn't help with the concussion. I think he will make a good coach.

JT should take a year off, get healthy, and tryout for the UFL. But, I think a year off is necessary. At WVU, The O-Line was lackluster, and Greene’s mobility in RPO worked better with the personnel. Players shouldn’t start at 17 at a Top Tier program like USC.

I think at Georgia, the locker room was behind Bennett. Daniels was the better passer than Bennett but Stetson was right leader for that team. But I thought Daniels was a class act in how he handled the situation. I wish him luck

So much left out here, especially with his time at West Virginia and rice - no mention of his good games, no mention of his receivers at either school. It wasn’t all downs at either stop , no mention of whether all of the concussions had an effect. Good up through georgia but then the lack of research shows.
