  • Often I have questions about the various options available for natural barefoot shoes. I typically recommend a number of name brands, however, more recently I was fortunate enough to be invited in by the team at Distance Runwear in North Vancouver, British Columbia to learn about a few causal day to day options for shoes that fit the barefoot conversation. Please enjoy this short educational video covering some of the options available.
Disclaimer!! Transitioning to barefoot shoes can be a difficult process and has caused people injuries. The transition should be slow and controlled. Natural barefoot shoes are not for everyone and it is important that if you have questions or concerns to speak with your healthcare provider.

I began my transition April 2021 and it has been getting fun. It started off terrible as I ran 2.5 miles my first day in some vibram 5 fingers. After that I coule barely walk for a couple weeks and took about a month to recover enough to walk without pain. After learning my lesson I have been taking it easy and have been wearing vivobarefoot primus lite ii 6 days a week for daily activities. I even started to run in them. However the impact after a mile or so really begins to take a tole after a mile or so. Also, yes, I have learned not to heel strike lol. I will continue this barefoot shoe journey as I enjoy the weight of them and ground connectedness I get from wearing them.

Also, running in barefoot shoes is intense on your calves and those willing to try should be careful to slowly strengthen their achilles and calves.

@@DisasterRecipe Thank you very much for your story. You are most correct and your experiences are similar to many including myself. When I started I had calf pain for months and it took me a long time to climb back to the similar distances I had been doing prior. I personally max out at about 10km in completely natural barefoot shoes running. The long stuff I use a zero drop slightly more cushioned trail runner.
