I accidentally spilt oil on my disks and made up a spray bottle of washing up liquid and water about 20%/80%. I then soaked the disk/caliper with the stuff and cycled with randomly applying the break. Done this a couple of times and rinsed. Worked great.
Fantastic video, to tell my bike repair shop, on what to be done on next annual revision ;-)

This channel has helped me total replace and maintain every part on my bike except the bb. The Bottom Bracket is the next chore and changing out the airshaft to a longer one my 2020 Lyrik. I like the Orginal workings of the 2020 model . I’m at 150mm and want a true 160. I am thinking of getting the 170mm because they sit into their travel about 10mil anyway.
I do have the 2021 replacement to make it 160 . I hear they are firmer through the top of the stroke with less mid travel support. So thought a 170 and keep the orginal 2020 stuff on the airshaft .
I did just have a bad downhill crash hitting a tree. I broke my pelvis and sacrum . The sacrum is screwed together so I cannot walk for a bit .
I’ll be back in several months. Gingerly of course (maybe)
I’m 59 years old so maybe need to slow down a bit .

Bolt checks, lock tight, and proper torque specs are a must. My non drive side XT crank came loose and fell off last ride. My Rotor bolts also came lose. All installed by the LBS.
My LBS forgot to put the bolt back in my brake pads after a full service, first downhill trail and the pads jumped out!
Strange the rotor bolts came loose. They come with loctite on them from factory. Maybe under torqued
@@flawless7019 in my experience it’s that a torque wrench is almost never used. “A good mechanic doesn’t need one” is the rationale. I do a bolt check on every bike I touch
@@307.William in my experience if a torque wrench isn't used daily there's something wrong with the mechanics. No point risking shit when there's calibrated tools to do a job
2:12 I like to use a disinfectant wipe or heavy duty wipe by the brand "Miracle Wipes" (sold at Home Depot or Lowe's here in America) for those.Just spin by hand while using the other hand to wipe the wheel.
Thank you and really appreciate this. Just this week my husband moved his bike from one side of the garage to the other and looked down, 'what's this?' The head of his shock bolt had sheared off and fell off in the garage! It was probably loose so we will be checking those in the future!

9:27 I usually apply fresh Loctite 243 to it, to create a bond between the surfaces. It's more secure that way, but it depends on how much or the kind of thread locker the manufacturer has used I guess. So I apply fresh just in case, cus sometimes it can get loose if i don't, but not always. but just a drop is enough.

Great stuff. My bike has a reverb stealth seat post. Does the unscrew trick to lube also work on that? I have some Wet Seal on order.
I always replace crank arms when I need to replace the chainring; aluminium alloy has a limited fatigue life.
You didn't mention removing the air from the forks before beginning the service process. Now I can't find my face... 😵
Yeah but you're not removing anything to the top so it doesn't matter
The lower legs of the fork are not pressurised - you don’t need to remove the air. If you are servicing the air spring, or adding/removing tokens, by all means empty the air.
The lower legs are not connected to the Air chamber, so opening the lower legs will not change or release your air pressure. If it does, then you have a bigger problem
Excellent overview. It would be great to see a dedicated video on the new Schumann Linkglide offering. Especially how to sort out the compatibility requirements. It isn’t hard but unless someone knows where to find the guide you are stuck with a mystery wrapped in a riddle.
I ride a 97 Trek 8000. I really really like this bike. What were the best fork options of that time period ? I'd like to replace the stock Manitou Forks if I can still find something better

When buying bearings be sure and get the correct type for the location/application- ie there are different specs for bearings designed for wheels/BB's that spend their life spinning, compared to "load bearing" bearings such as in suspension linkages that rotate very little....(IIRC they are "MAX" type?)
what brand suspension oil should i get for the dropper post minor service?
Doddy, do you have experience with 3rd party aluminium jockey wheels? Do they last longer and attract less gunk? (The Nylon ones seem to get rough on the surface at some point and every bit of gunk is sticking to them)

For the minor seat post service, does it only apply to dropper seats or all seats?
Probably a good idea while you're messing with the jockey wheels and other parts of the derailleur, just dismount it and use a derailleur hanger tool to get it nice and straight. It doesn't take much for that little bit of tweaking that throws off the shifting.
What kind of grease do you use on the bearings?
Got magura mt7 last year now the front rotor has play on it (floating rotor)
I have not seen the shimano linkglide available any where
I just use a cheap toothbrush or even alcohol swabs/wipes when I'm cleaning my derailer pulley wheels and my chain; both work great🤘🤘
I always put some grease on mine inner gear cable's put ar lot of rides and the bike mechanic say they don't bother because the outer cable has protection for the inner cable puy I always put a bit of grease on the cables.
18:06 it can also be worn out hub bearings, an easy way to check if that's the case, is to loosen the axle, if it goes away with a loose axle or skewer, you need new hub bearings. But of course don't ride with loose axle. only use this for diagnosing the issue.
I'm hoping to finally be replacing the pulleys or jockey wheels on my 2008-09 Shimano XT M772 Shawdow rear derailer. These should of been replaced years ago.

Can you get away with changing a 32t chainring to a 34t on a shimano 12 speed without changing the chain length? Sometimes I ride flatter areas where I want the 34t ring.
I've flushed and re-packed my headset bearings with no issues

Takes about 10,000km to wear out 200mm rotors.
Can someone tell me what the boiling water on the rotors are for? Just extra cleaning? Also, is it possible to clean and redo the bed-in process for brakes? I didn't take enough care with this at the beginning and I have suffered squeaky brakes ever since.

My husband just bought a Scott Spark 960 from our LBS and found out a bike tech didn't built it but his buddy who hangs out at the shop did... This video gave me some good places to look to see if he did it right cause when we got the bike both suspension pressures were way too low, brake pads were scrubbing the rotors and saddle was loose.

16:49 degreaser or brake cleaner will dry the skin on your hands so I recommend laying it somewhere, or use gloves. after this with bare hands, moisturizer has to be used.
Not necessarily, just make sure to watch your hands thoroughly
@@The_Real_JN I am speaking from experience. Just a little bit is enough, horrible on my hands. Also if washing hands, hands can get dry from some soaps. Not from all.

When I ride my bike, if I were to stop pedaling and coast a bit and then start pedaling again, my pedals will go about 1/2 to 3/4, (actual amount is a guess ion my part...), of a revolution before they seem to engage the drive train. Does this phenomenon have a name and what is the cause of it? I was very interested in the freehub portion of the video for a discussion of this. I have been unable to find this topic in other videos or maintenance tutorials because I don't know the name of this topic or if what I am experiencing is appropriate. Thanks in advance for your help!
Your rear hub probably needs a service or replace
Open your hub and check the "teeth" are moving and greased. Pretty easy job if you have the tools.

If you’re going to pull a fork’s lower legs to replace oil, a wiper change is almost no additional work, assuming you have the tools.

12:30 It probably seems too obvious to mention but please, if you're servicing an air shock, do NOT forget to let all the air pressure out first. This is of the upmost importance.

Guys I require your help. I have Shimano bl-m4100 on my bike with BH59 hose on it. The lock nut at the lever has got rounded. Does a BH90 lock nut fit the lever or is there a difference between both the nuts? Please let me know. Thanks.
I think that would work. The outer diameter of the bh90 and bh59 hose are the same. It would depend on the thread pitch. Also, the bh59 ones are super cheap, I would recommend just using the right thing. Hope that helps :)

That is understandable. Can you try threading in the bolt without the hose to see if it works before wasting an olive and barb?
@@sophialiovas2257 yes that is what i am going to do. Those olive and barbs are nowhere to be found. I had to burn the hose off from the old pieces i had left from shortening the hoses to get those barbs out.

The headset tip doesn't work if you've got a Canyon bike. Not only they don't list spares for spectral 29er, if you call/write support they refuse to provide information about bearing size
