It was ahead of it’s time! When it first came out I didn’t understand it and I wasn’t feeling it. As the years passed I came back to it and it most definitely grew on me. ❤️
The three main reasons why ARTPOP wasn't a big success was beacause 1) the type of edm sound: It wasnt very radio friendly at the time whereas zedd, calvin harris, alesso, kygo were more of a commercial type. 2) Gaga's team was a mess at that time, her manager quit and there was nobody to help handle the promotion nor damage the control that R.Kelly's and Terry Richardson's sex scandals caused 3) She overhyped it when she called album of the millenium.The media expected for it to surpass her prior success (and also they pitted her against katy perry who was also making a huge comeback) If you mix all of the above, you have a recipe for disaster. Personally, I love that album and I think it's a shame it doesnt have the recognition it deserves.

Artpop has always been and always will be my favourite era. She brought it out too early and was ahead of her time. It wasn't a flop, it was too experimental to be pop. It's also got music for every mood.

The fame Monster- bad parts of Fame, the evil but discovering her fans and what was created with the fame. Born this way- acceptance and being true to one's self. being ok with your sexuality and exploring parts of your life you didn't know existed. ARTPOP- The pain of being away from her fans and how she felt after the hip injury during the born this way ball which made her cancel the rest of the tour. and Joanne is about going back to her roots, giving back to her family and her connection with her mom and dad. Joanne was Lady Gagas aunt that passed away from lupus and was sexually abused at 19. Joanne I also Lady Gagas middle name.

I will 100% STAN Lady Gaga no matter what music she puts out. I've been there since "The Fame" to "Joanne" And I've loved all of her albums. I love just how much Mother Monster can just switch it up and reinvent herself with every album. But "ARTPOP" was always my favorite album, it's heavily underrated and deserved just as much commercial success as the other albums. I don't think it had enough promotion though. Ahh, just so many good songs from that album like "G.U.Y", "Venus", "Gypsi", "MANiCURE", "Sexxx Dreams", "Mary Jane Holland", "Swine", "Fashion!", " Artpop", "Donatella", "Dope"

Album sales were also on a decline and she had similar sales to other female pop albums released in 2013. The era didn't have a huge hit like Just Dance, Poker Face or Bad Romance that could have made up for the lower album sales. All this is why they called it a flop, but it wasn't. Jordan I'm talking about the albums overall, not the song itself. I get that some songs like Dope have a meaning, but Joanne has more depth in its lyrics while Artpop focuses more on the beats.
Artpop is probably my favourite album from her. I was hooked as soon as she performed the tracks at the iTunes festival. I remember listening to the live recordings everyday until the album was released. I think the reason why this album flopped is because they never really had a big single campaign. It was all a mess. She should have kept Venus as the second single. I would have loved to have seen what the video would have been like. And I believe the song Aura was supposed to be the third single which was supposed to have a video that continued the Telephone video. That would have been huge and helped the album.

It had some potential tracks to be hits if it was realesed back on the day, like Gypsy, Manicure, ... my Faves are the Industrial Edm ones : Aura & Swine I also appreciate the Gaga sexy side on: Sexx Dreams The commercial ones are : Applause and Do what u want ... Finally, Venus and GUY did not work in the promotion of the Album.
The most underrated album of the 10’s is Lana Del Rey’s born to die paradise edition. Everyone hated her for that album at first and it never got the traction it deserved.
On Apple Music they removed do what you want from the album. I wish they just put the Christina version on the album now. I actually prefer that version anyway

They called it a flop because she set a high standard for herself commercially with her previous albums. Album sales were also on a decline and she had similar sales to other female pop albums released in 2013. The era didn't have a huge hit like Just Dance, Poker Face or Bad Romance that could have made up for the lower album sales.
All this is why they called it a flop, but it wasn't.

Jordan I'm talking about the albums overall, not the song itself. I get that some songs like Dope have a meaning, but Joanne has more depth in its lyrics while Artpop focuses more on the beats.
Artpop is probably my favourite album from her. I was hooked as soon as she performed the tracks at the iTunes festival. I remember listening to the live recordings everyday until the album was released. I think the reason why this album flopped is because they never really had a big single campaign. It was all a mess. She should have kept Venus as the second single. I would have loved to have seen what the video would have been like. And I believe the song Aura was supposed to be the third single which was supposed to have a video that continued the Telephone video. That would have been huge and helped the album.
Aura was meant to be THE LEAD single but the label refuse and choose applause instead
Gaga is one of the few artists who doesn't have a weak album in their discography. 🔥

The most underrated album of the 10’s is Lana Del Rey’s born to die paradise edition. Everyone hated her for that album at first and it never got the traction it deserved.

This is very true, but I also feel like people just like to hate on Gaga regardless. She's never been taken seriously, and people will find ANY reason they can to discredit her, as they have for the past 12 years. So, yes ARTPOP was ahead of its time, but I don't know if it would've been well-received had it come out now.
