  • Howdy T7 folks!!
    Here you can see the quick and easy way to install preload washers in your front fork legs.

    This is NOT how RallyRaid Producs intended you to install these, please see their install guid for the correct way of doing things.

    I take no responsibility if you somehow damage your bike doing it the way I do it in this video.
    I highly recommend contacting your local bike shop for installation of these spacers.
    Cheers

    Bought and fitted these, very easy to do and made an impressive difference to the handling and fork dive, well worth it.

    Thank you for a very good tutorial! I'm about to replace the springs to a bit stiffer ones, and this video give me the confidence to do it. Seems fairly easy to do. One qustion about the small screws on the top cap. Do you turn the screws all to the right og to the left?

    Hey Marcus, great video. How much do you weigh? Did you check your sag before and after install? Thanks

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  Před 3 lety +1

      I’m 82kg after morning toilet 😅.
      About 86 kitted up without any bags or extras.
      Sag was within “OK” limits prior, so the 5mm on each leg Im about 27% rider sag

  • @matthewallison6823
    @matthewallison6823 Před 2 lety

    I ended up with the 2 5mm and the 2.5mm (12.5mm) in each leg to get the static sag down to 30mm and rider sag at 55mm.

      @@everythingtenere it's the static sag that's the problem. But the bike sits heavy on the forks when on the stand so can be deceiving! I'm a short leg human so the softer ride can help reach the floor sometimes and I don't go balls to the wall off road on it either.

    Hey Mark! Thanks for the professionell lesson! But what is the sence for that rings? What is the advandage? No OEMs there?
    Regards from Austria, Guenther!

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  Před 3 lety +1

      He Guenther!
      Well, as you have no preload adjustment on the fork caps, you can’t adjust you rider sag (spring tension). So if you weigh more that 80kg all kitted up, you most likely have more rider sag than what is optimal. Thumb rule is 10% free sag and ~30% rider sag (amount of suspensions used when standing still.
      As you got 210mm front suspension, if you are a heavy guy and sit on the bike, you might already use 65-80mm of that just standing still.
      So adding a 5mm washer creates a slightly heavier spring = less sag

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  Před 3 lety

      Let’s say you weigh more than 85kg, then the rider sag (how much suspension is used with you on the bike standing still) might be 70 mm. 210-70= 140mm suspension left. So you loose a lot of useful suspension.
      Same with the rear suspension, the spring in the rear is rated for 70-75kg rider. But there you have a preload adjuster. In the front you do not have that, so the option is either to replace the spring to a heavier one or add spacer. There is no oem spacers. So a 5 mm spacer will give you about 5mm extra preload, so less free and rider sag.

  • @atprodT700
    @atprodT700 Před 3 lety

    hi everyone, have you felt an important difference since the installation of this washer (I saw that since you installed an OHLINS fork kit). I measure 1.70m for 70 kg but as soon as I leave loaded (luggage, camping equipment, tools ... 25kg) the tallone fork easily if I pick up the pace off road.
    I especially don't want to increase the height of the bike. there is the Adréani fork kit less expensive than Ohlins but I have not seen any feedback on this subject. thanks for the video.
    IT is time for you to take a long distance off road trip to test and indulge yourself.
    See you soon

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  Před 3 lety

      Hi!
      The preload spacers does not add any height to your bike.
      When fully loaded, check your riding sag, if more than 56-60mm, the. Fore sure preload spacer will help. It would give you more useable suspension, but I would also play with comp and rebound.
      And don’t forget to check sag in the rear and adjust it too :).
      I installed RallyRaid open cartridge kit, not Öhlins ;)

      @@everythingtenere I have already made numerous adjustments, taking into account all the theories (dead and static travel) without finding a satisfactory result with 25 kg of luggage. especially the fork easily heels on bumps in off road.
      considering my weight, I had thought that these washers might be an "inexpensive" solution. thank you for the feedback.
      Unless I am mistaken, the fork cartridge kit from Raid is from the Tractive Suspension brand which manufactures for Touratech, also under its own TRACTIVE brand. take a look at these fork kits are identical. these are among the best fork kits on the market.

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  Před 3 lety

      @@atprodT700 yep tracktive it is, RallyRaid might have different valving though, as they developed their own kit with tracktive.
      The preload spacers does help for off road riding for sure. So it’s a cheep upgrade.
      But best would be a K-tec revalve kit I guess

      You may want to check this video on how to replace the front springs without removing the fork: czcams.com/video/dK9LYb6kJ68/video.html I found it quite impressive and it looks like a reasonable way to improve the front suspension with stiffer springs and adjust to your weight.

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  Před 3 lety

      Hi Jon!
      It’s hard to say exactly, depends on how much rider sag you have right now?
      I think maybe 2x 5mm on each side.
      But if you are 105kg, then I would maybe think of getting another spring for you weight.

    you can alter your sag a bit with your suspension compresion and rebound a bit, or is this not true.

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  Před 3 lety +1

      I’d say bullshit on that 😊, rebound or comp adjustment does not change the spring tension. And preload is just that, you push on the spring so more weight does not make the bike sit lower (just as on the rear preload)
