The latest installment of Ridiculous Characters of Fighting game history is here, with Faust from Guilty Gear! He was easily the most requested character that is brought up everytime I did one of these videos so here ya go! Also you guys know I normally don't ask this but since these kind of vids are so out of the wheelhouse I normally tread in so its harder for it to get traction on youtube so likes/comments/all that usual stuff you know, very much appreciated!
Think we could get more of these in time for halloween? Would love to see a character from Skullgirls or Blazblue, like Ms.Fortune or Arakune.
@@CountofBleck It takes forever to make one of these styles of vids compared to what I normally create so I don't think there will be another by halloween. That said they will still pop up every now and then!

I love how his door teleport is a canon ability. He used it in GG xrd's story for a last minute save in a vital operation against the conclave, but messed up and ate dirt for like 10 whole seconds before pulling off the sickest landing I've ever seen.

More accurately, Xrd: Sign. I don't think he messed up so much as that was the best he could do. The doors aren't long distance, according to him. He knew it would've a rough landing.

The way I interpreted Xrd's gallery seemed to imply that Faust is so clinically insane that he is a minor reality warper, hence why he pulls stuff out of hammer space and swims through the air.
He actually used to be generally insane. He was once under the name doctor baldhead of course he went insane through some shady people screwing him over
In the Wikis says his magic is "Spatial Deformation" which is very fitting
Apparently his abilities are partly due to self surgery of sorts.

Everyone is talking about how Faust is relapsing but I think our boy is just tired. You seen some of these doctors who do 10 hour shifts, 6 days a week? They look like the walking dead, too.

one of my favourite goofy faust facts is a bit from the codex talking about how hes one of the best magicians on earth and maybe ever; his item summoning is material displacement, which takes mastery of All kinds of magic, and teleportation is an incredibly difficult technique by itself. adding doing so much magical research with whatever "rigorous physical training" lets you stretch your head out a few feet, and hes just one insanely dedicated doctor.
smth about the amount of work and care he puts into being goofy and eccentric makes him so charming as a character, esp when you consider hes very fond of children. love that funnydoc.
Faust is one of the characters in Guilty Gear I wanted to try out the most. Glad to learn some crazy lore about him. I never knew of his rough past as "Dr. Baldhead" :o

Faust's back-story is so wacky I honestly thought you're making stuff up on the way
Check out his old move set from Guilty Gear. He didn't have item throw, so he had things like an E. Honda style frenzy, pogo sticking around, flying on flatulence, and an instant kill where he knocks his opponent into the air, impales them on his scalpel, and then buries them under a traditional Japanese gravestone.
It isnt mentioned, but even fausts powers are really interesting, he’s not a deity or a descendant of a great person

I'm gonna be a dick real quick, but I promise I'll make up for it by the end: 'Faust' is actually pronounced like 'Foust' which means 'fist' in German, but besides that is clearly a reference to Goethe's Faust from which we get fun idioms like 'Faustian bargain'. In the novel 'Faust', the titular character makes a deal with what amounts to the devil, shenanigans ensue. The novel's character is heavily based on a presumably historical figure who went around practicing magic and wonderously healing people among other things. Not quite a regular medical doctor.

A very small amount of audio gremlin hiccups here in the vid. Thankfully in a day or two ill have all the parts I need for a all new audio setup im trying out... and hopefully that means that stuff will be fixed forever! Faust's backstory/history is definitely interesting as a fan of the lore this series has created.

I think I understand the reference with Faust's name.
Faust is german for fist.
But Faust is also the book of proper manners which since he's a doc it fits as well as it being ironic since well Faust is Faust
Deals with the devil are also referred to as "faustian bargains".
I always thought he was an alien due to him being 10 ft tall 👽🤣
On the other hand he does remind me of Professor Pyg from Batman except Pyg uses his skills to kill while Faust is trying his best to make up for whatever he did in the past
9 ft, but close enough. He may actually be so tall that it's damaging his spine, hence his hunched over walk most of them time and why he's using his scalpel to stand upright in Strive.

I honestly can't tell if I prefer how he is in strive, i wish we actually knew what happened to him, I do like the more outright joke character that he was in the past couple games but now he's this weird mostly joke character but some sinister aspects to him that make him more intimidating and idk how well they fit together for me.

If there's ever a hint of him returning maybe. To be frank his story arc ends up in a way where it just looks like he is flat out "done".

Well to be frankly honest, I don't do as many of these kind of vids because they take way way more effort and time to make than a normal video, and with way less return. Work more to get less reward kinda deal. That said I still put one out every now and then cause I know the folks who do watch em, like em.

My guess is that Faust's powers come from years of rigorous study and training and may have been far more conventional, but his madness has flavored them into something decidedly goofier.
Strive is the first GG game I've picked up, and I immediately went to Faust

Yep! Every fantasy strike is an homage to another fighting game character(or an amalgamation of fighting game characters) in some way. For Lum its a little more direct! Although for DeGrey its the most pronounced cause he's basically just copy and paste Slayer from GG

Faust was 100x better in Xrd and that's coming from a Strive baby 🐥🍼 It just fits his character design better when he's goofy. Sinister + banana toss doesn't quite mix well.

For the upcoming Rollback netcode for Ac+r, Faust items are more partical because aside from Mini Faust, he also has mini Robo Ky and his big money....MINI POTEMKIN. Xrd player should be glad Mini Robo ky and Potemkin were removed because they are goddamn obnouxious to deal with. Robo ky will be the fastest summon and that means he dash toward you immediately upon touching the Ground. Mini POTEMKIN is his more rare summon but the stongest although very slow but it took 3 hits to take out a mini Potemkin.

99% of any references in Guilty Gear are towards metal and rock bands.

Faust in Strive looks dark as fuck, as if he's back to his serial killer days. I love it. He's a good mix of insanely bizarre like only the Japanese can come up with combined with creepy.
