As a Canadian, this one hurts... a lot. I am disgusted to find out that our coaches were engaging in this conduct, and in a systematic way. With that said, we didn't become the team we did (in both men's and women's) simply by drone spying. We built these teams from the ground up and have been blessed to have some generational talent come through. Drones didn't teach Alphonso how to run, or Sinclair how to score a clutch goal. If you think our performance these days is strictly down to drone footage, then you're just a terrible analyst.
Hopefully, we can get past this and continue to build our programs. I feel gutted for the players on our Women's team right now who feel like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders. They have persevered and our really giving a gutsy performance right now!

I live in Asia and I used to be a big fan of both the USWNT and Canada WNT... until Herdman arrived. It's no longer a respectful competition but everything became really toxic. IMO he brought out the worst in people. I'm feeling really bad for some of the Canadian players whom I still follow cuz they absolutely don't deserve all this.
I really hope Canadian soccer fans do the right thing and stop protecting the people behind all this because that's the only way to make sure no more innocent Canadian athletes are hurt in the future.

As a Canadian, I can tell you that everyone that I know is totally embarrassed by this. This seems totally un-Canadian to most of us.
I feel badly for the players; but I do think that punishment is warranted.
Having said that & knowing how corrupt FIFA management has been, it's kind of rich & ironic that they would be the ones to dole out any kind of punishment.
I do think that if CONCACAF & FIFA are going to be investigating Canada through our history, which I do agree with, then they are obliged to also investigate Tyler Adams & Herc Gomez's statements & look into how prevalent this kind of cheating has been in all of soccer all along. Quite frankly, I don't see any difference in sending drones to watch practices, versus sending people incognito to spy on other team's practices. It is just a more modern version of the same form of cheating.
By the way, Canada has recently replaced board members & has a new CEO, Kevin Blue, who comes from the golf world & he most likely would not condone this behaviour st all.

If you allow all Teams to spy as well with a drone, then everybody has an equal opportunity.
As long as the IOC says not to use Drones to spy, then that's cheating, unless the other team does the same.

I left the Canadian fan base after Herman arrived, because the attitude turned into a crazy zero-sum attitude rather than a good respectful competition or sportmanship as before. I agree with the hosts. I think they are correct. But I do think we should not base what we think the quality of the Canadian teams are on this. Bielsa is a famous example of spying on other teams and admitting it later. I’m not sure that he or his teams got punished for that. And what is Fair in sports? If one team can out-spend another team by 100 to one or more is that fair? What about drug enhancing performances? I’m not saying yay or nay to this, but should athletes that use marijuana be disqualified from competing as they have been in the past? Are steroids wrong? I’m not arguing for against any of these things. I’m just raising the question. I think fairness doesn’t really come into it. Not in a world where the best teams are the richest teams. maybe poor teams like Canada should be given the advantage of drones or a handicap or something, if we want to make things fair.
