RM said this in an interview : "Basically, our albums are like a four-part series; [the series] is about love. So [Love Yourself: Tear] is part three and it's like a turning point. We're saying that if you're not true to yourself, your love won't last forever. The love could be person to person, it could be between me and myself,"

I don’t understand If you’re talking about the love yourself series. Bc if that’s the case the ly series its a trilogy about love and tear it’s the second part.
In her there’s the stage where you fall in love
In tear you realize that the relationship isn’t working anymore
In answer you learn that before falling for someone else you should love yourself.

I don’t think it’s directly related to social media. In the love yourself series fake love it’s where the relationship comes to an end because it’s getting toxic. I believe that the I’m fine/save me message it’s about pretending to be fine for your loved one but you’re destroying yourself to make them happy so deep down you want to be saved.

Fake love is from the second album of a trilogy called Love Yourself. The first part/album, Love Yourself: Her (the title track is DNA), it's the happy, colorful face of love, like u meeting someone. Even though the title it's "her" it can be interpreted for maybe any kind of love between people. The second part, Love Yourself: Tear (title track Fake Love, is about when the love is kinda start to break apart. The last part, Love Yourself: Answer (title track Idol), is about loving yourself.

  • @kur4mon445

Fake love's lyrics can definitely be interpreted as something for the fans. Famous people in general show their best side for the fans. Some sides are not even truth, so, like in the lyrics, it's a pretty lie. And I don't think the "lies" or "omissions" are with the objective of fools the fans or something like that. I think It's more a way to not disappoint the ones that support you and just show their best side... But sometimes can be suffocating

I've seen a lot of reactions to Fake Love but I've never heard a theory like yours. It just proves yet again how good wirters and artists they are: they give you the music video, the song and the lyrics and it's up to you how you take it. That's, in my opinion, true art.
To me, Fake Love speaks about a relationship between two people, in which one of them tried to be something they are not in order to please the other one. But now they have come to a realization that in order to love somebody they need to love themselves first, hence the love between the two people is "fake love".
*For you I could pretend I was happy when I was sad* ... *I tried to be a good man, just for you. Now I don't know me* ... Basically I lost myself while trying to be someone you could love.
Thank you for your reactions. I would suggest Blood, Sweat & Tears if you haven't seen it already 💜 It's pretty much the same masterpiece as Fake Love.

love that you are really focusing on the song and the lyrics in your reactions.I think this fake love can mean many things - like fake love in relationship but even love between friends or family and especially loving yourself. If you you are not true to yourself and pretend to be someone else this love won't last. I think that they also can refer to the fact that sometimes they try to pretend to us fans to be perfect. They are really hard on themselves and they try not to show their hardships cause fans will be sad or dissapointed. So this can be about them pretending to be perfect for us and us seeing only good side of them not the real them with their flaws and insecurities. So it's all is fake love. It's reall amazing that we all can interpret this in so many different ways.

I love this song for all the layers to the lyrics... Could it be about fans not truly knowing BTS as real people so fans' love is fake? Yes... Could it be about someone in a relationship who changed to be perfect for the other person, so the other person doesn't really know and therefore can't really love who their partner is for who they are? Yes.... Could it be about BTS' feelings for themselves, creating their BTS 'persona' for fans but wondering where their real self ends and the persona starts, loving their fake 'persona' better than their real selves? Yes.

Fake Love” is in my top 5 from BTS. Beautiful poetic lyrics and amazing visuals. The song is not necessarily about another person and their fake love, but directed inward and basically telling the story that if you’re not true to yourself or love yourself first, then love of any kind or for anyone will always be ‘fake’ (notice they look in the mirror at themselves often). And because basically YOU are the person allowing another to have power over you, when in actuality what’s being done to you is actually not by another person but yourself because you lack self-love. It follows their “Love Yourself” album trilogy’s (3 albums-the first album is about an ideal love, “Fake Love” is on the 2nd album when the idealized love falls apart and your faced to look inward and self-reflect and question your true self)the theme of “Love Yourself” where in the last 3rd album you realize you’re the one you should love and accept the most before you can truly love anyone else. BTS launched the Love Myself campaign with UNICEF to protect children against violence around the release of these albums where part of the proceeds of the 3 albums went to the cause and 100% of sales from their Love Myself merchandise went to the cause as well. Re:Snickers bars-it’s a part of BTS fictional “BU” storyline where JHope’s mother in the story abandons him at an amusement park leaving him with only a Snickers Bar so snickers is a part of his ‘fear’ in Fake Love. BTS’ BU is pretty intricate and you have to go back from the start of the HYYH era to piece it all together it’s some pretty heavy topics they explore btw-they have a webtoons and video games based off the fictional storyline too. 💜 The visuals in Fake Love like the snickers bars, water, fire, flower are connected to BTS’ complex fictional storyline that runs through a few of their videos and hits on heavy topics such as mental health, abuse, addiction etc, so it will be confusing to newbies to BTS who haven’t gone down their storyline rabbit hole yet! The hands sculpture represents “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil”…which is also represented in movements in the choreography too.

So speedy breakdown of the visuals in this MV and what they mean, to me at least.
That rose you mentioned, it represents love. We can see Jin in a room alone as debris flies in during the chorus. He goes to protect the rose from it but ultimately he fails. The rose in encased in glass because in a way it's a fake or toxic love. He can't even reach it.
When the music stops, we see Jungkook. He walks up to a pile of sand (or some say ashes) that has the same glass lantern/case on it and he picks some of the sand (or ashes) up in his hands. In that moment, he realizes that he needs to love himself rather than getting caught up in a fake relationship with himself or with another person.
And then the sand/ashes turns back into flower petals. Back into love. But it wasn't just love. It was self love because he made those flower petals himself.
    Boom.

Also a lot of what you said was very close, but I feel like you won’t fully get the affect of this mv and this song (as well as most others) without knowing more about the guys themselves and also the storyline that runs through a lot of their music videos. They have an entire cinematic universe that’s played out in bits and pieces through music videos, a webtoon, a couple books, and a mobile game. It deals with very real struggles like suicide, chronic illness both physical and mental, parental abandonment, domestic abuse, and supernatural elements like time travel and the god Abraxas

  • @ohibo7676
    @ohibo7676 Před 3 lety +8

The song is about a toxic relationship and realizing that to make the other person happy you’re deleting your own self. To make more sense we should take a look at the full picture: the love yourself trilogy. In the first album, ly:her, two persons fall in love, in ly:tear which is the album where fake love is from, one of the lovers realizes that the relationship isn’t working anymore. To make the other person happy they pretend to be someone who isn’t themselves, that explains the I’m fine/save me scene. They say that they’re fine but deep down they know that this relationship is just ruining them and they want to be saved. In the end there’s ly:answer where they realize that the most important thing is to love yourself before loving someone else.

The main theme of Fake Love is a toxic relationship, losing yourself because you tried to change in order to being with the person you “love”. It’s part of a story line that goes with the Love Yourself series that consists of 3 albums.
Love Yourself: Her that talks about falling in love, finding a love that seems like destiny.
Songs that are part of the story line: 1)Serendipity, 2)DNA and 3)Outro: Her
Love Yourself: Tear talks about the inevitable break-up
Songs: 1) Singularity, 2) Fake Love
Love yourself: Answer that talks about the realization the epiphany about the importance of self-love
    Song: Epiphany
This builds on the underlying theme of the Love Yourself series: before you can truly love someone else, you must first be able to love yourself.

    @sheetalchand8546 Před 3 lety

They didn't specifically say if the lyrics were referring to the fans but many came up with similar theories too when the song dropped back in 2018. What they have said about Fake Love though is that this song can be interpreted to be about person to person or it can be about you & yourself. The relationship with yourself that is. The main idea behind the whole album (2nd installation of LY Series) LY: Tear, in which Fake Love is, was basically realizing a love that is not with agreement with your true self & you're just becoming someone else to either please someone else or create a better persona of yourself in other people's eyes, that love can not be forever & one day it will all crumble. In the final installment of the Love Youself Series, LY: Answer its realized that "I'm the one I should love.." before loving anyone else. The first part was LY: Her in which it's all happy feelings that one experiences in the first stages of love when falling in love. The whole Love Yourself series had story archs that explored a certain feeling of love in each album.

Yes, the fake love can be towards another person or other things (friend, parent, fans, lover, industry...) but like you said it can be yourself. It's saying true to yourself & love yourself first. All props (blue flower, cell phone, water falls, fire, mirror, keyhole, playgroup, snicker bars....) and dance movements are precisely and detaily placed for the BTS World storyline. Just for your info, there are hardly any CGIs. Background statues are real matching their choreo (hear no evil, see no evil, see no evil).

The flower represents his persona mask (carl jung arquetypes of personality) Jungkook (the guy spying all the others represents the persona mask. The one protecting the flower (Jin) is the only real person. The other guys represent the different arquetypes (perdona, shadow, ego etc) of his personality. This song is included in their 3 album series called love yourself which is a journey to learn how to integrate their shadows and finally start loving themselves.

you made such great points and interpretation. it's a new perspective for me and i thank you for that. ☺️ thus, this song and mv can be interpreted in a million ways. however, there's a clear point that losing yourself to fit the standards of someone else (whether it be the fans, the entire industry, media, their family, their "friends," their romantic love, etc.) - a list of people or entities they want to please cos they're also mistaken for loving them and vice versa... we're all guilty of this at one point, hence the saying "best foot forward." we naturally want to show only our good or best side to someone we like/love. if it gets beyond control, you lose yourself. of course your good and best parts are part of you too but that's not the only thing about you. so, is the love real if you don't know who you are and the other person knows you for somebody else (or just a part of you and not the entitety of who you are)? they're not only the receiver of fake love - in this song they're also reflecting if they have been giving fake love by wondering if they're still staying true to themselves. this song is from the album love yourself tear. it's part of the love yourself trilogy.
    1. love yourself her - joys of the beginnings of falling for someone
    title track: dna
    intro song: serendipity
    2. love yourself tear - pains of losing yourself in the process of loving someone
    title track: fake love
    intro song: singularity
    3. love yourself answer - the realization on where true love begins
    title track: idol
    intro song: epiphany

tbh i always interpreted it as an actual toxic relationship or people who only want to date someone for their image and not their actual selves which is honestly a huge thing that happens when you're a celebrity but this song can be interpreted in many different ways and that's what makes it (and art in general) so interesting

Honestly i do think its about their love toward fans. Especially as another track in album which is outro:tear about them thinking to disband. This album made when they feeling very pressure with new kind of international fame they got to the point they thinking to disband. Plus, there is another track called the truth untold that kinda similar with beauty n the beast story which the main character think he is ugly n afraid to meet the girl.

The video itself and the meaning is a bit more complex than taking it at face value of the 'fake love' from comments and things. It's part of the BTS universe, which is very complicated to try understand. I know it's not a popular opinion, but I'm also interpreting the song the same way as you do. Of course BTS lyrics is open as usual, you could argue whether it's about toxic love relationship, relationship with youself, etc. But as I see it it definitely has artist/fans layer within it.
Almost all fans have no idea who are these young men - BTS, what are their dreams, fears, etc. Even in backstage videos information is filtered to show them the best way possible. Fans love BTS's stage images, but they have no idea about people behind.

Your interpretation of the lyrics always amazes me.. you really do a great job breaking the lyrics down.. just to know more about the song.. it was from the album love yourself tear..
They have a series of albums called love yourself and it follows a certain story..
The first album is called love yourself: her.. which basically shows the beautiful side of love.. how you are attracted to your beloved.. in any kind of relationship.. trying to show them your best sides..
In the second album love yourself: Tear.. this love begins to crack.. where you realize that you actually lost yourself in the process of trying to save this relationship.. to the point you don't even realize who you are anymore..
The final album.. love yourself: Answer.. you finally get the moment of the epiphany that you need to love yourself and accept who you are with all your sides in order to be able to love someone else..
It amazes me everytime how they were able to come out with such a beautiful thing.. it helped alot of people.. including me through our hardest times.. so now it became the message of bts to help people love and accept themselves.. that's why they are the nearest to our hearts..
And about the try not to laugh challenge.. they are actually one of the funniest people you'll ever see.. I suggest watching their funny videos as well..
Thank you so much for dedicating your time to deliver these videos and sharing them.. excited for your next video.. an Army from Egypt👋🏻💜

There's also the lyric about making me your doll. That's suggest someone in a relationship that your partner is slowly turning you into something you are not'. to me that talks of controlling that other person it's toxic and it's not love it's fake love. To wake up and get out of that type of controlling relationship you have to realise it's fake love the person doesn't love you they love only what they can make you into. Fake love. You only recognise the 'fake love' when you start to learn to love your real self not the image your controlling partner is slowly pushing you into.

So first of all, this music video (like a few others) is part of their fictional storyline called Bangtan Universe or BU for short that runs through some of their videos, short clips, concert vcr, notes included in albums etc. The lyrics don't necessarily always are a part of BU but only the videos so it can be interpreted independently. Second, that flower in the hourglass wasn't a rose but a flower called Smeraldo that is also associated with the storyline. The BU is very complicated & people won't be able to make sense of it if they start from the middle. The BU isn't chronologically released either, the parts released later may well be the story of the past & parts released earlier may tell the story of a distant future. So if ever you want to dive into the BU (it's very interesting I tell you, making your own theories & trying to connect the dots) please tell us so we can guide you through the order to watch in which the videos were released. And do cross check with a couple other comments from other people since an army can sometimes get the order mixed up. Personally though, I'd suggest you get to know them individually better before you decide, if you decide you want to get into it (if u don't wanna thats totally fine too you can enjoy the lyrics & video without the added leyers) bc knowing each member by face & name is important in order to understand each of their stories & pairings.

As someone getting into BTS i could see you leaning towards thinking that a song like this could be addressed to there fanbase ( ARMY), but BTS would never make a song suggesting they find ARMY's love for them fake. From before BTS was BTS they worked on building a connection with ARMY. When it comes to how BTS feels about ARMY, we walk beside them, they are not just BTS without ARMY. They truly cherish us and make sure we know it all the time. They still openly use gifts they recieved from ARMY 8 years ago, they take there time out to talk to ARMY, They have a few songs that are openly made specifically for the fans. listening to songs like those will deff show you BTS would never want ARMY to think that they feel all the love is fake. The reason people make jokes about ARMY is because of the unbreakable bond BTS has made with us, ARMY literally will go to war for BTS, and BTS will never stand to let anyone trash talk us infront of them.
    Songs for ARMY
    2!3!
    Mikrokosmos
    We Are Bulletproof The Eternal
    Magic Shop
Pied Piper (this is the an offbeat ARMY song basically talking about how BTS has us like a pied piper lol)

The video relates to the storyline… like we know why Tae is with cellphones … the water, the fire, hobi and his carousel bd snickers… jk and the covered figure, the flower , the sand … jin and jk mirroring each other , jk seeing each member in their room alone… since I know the storyline connections bc they’re pretty obvious…. Hard to switch it in my brain. Lol but technically up to interpretation so can go either way then
Can work for any relationship .. bc it’s about them and relationships they’re in… and toxic relationships… especially since bts being openly vulnerable with fans is at the heart of everything they’ve built . It’s to me about the fragility of love itself

The sculpture in the background isn't real, but it is also not green screen. I believe it is a projection of some sort or a screen. You can get a slightly better look at it in the behind the scenes for this MV. The large majority of this MV was done through sets and practical effects. The only green screen I think they used was for the door opening in the water (just the door part ... the rest of the water was all an actual set with actual water), and the only CGI was the phone turning into sand.

There are many layers to this song and video, and even though they love us and are very greatful for our support, I definetly see that it can also be about fake love from fans. We don't actually know them, but we love the persons they portrait.
