The song is about their fear of losing their passion for music and about feeling numb. Some of your interpretation isn’t totally spot on but you definitely got the basic idea. The song is more about how people who lose their passion for art and for life feel inside than about the specific industry pressures BTS face.

“Black Swan” has to do with the balance with the light and shadow side of our personalities (it has some slight references to the film “Black Swan” which in the film the ‘shadow’ side overcame her/Natalie Portman and led to her demise). This album (Map Of The Soul:7) was inspired by psychiatrist Carl Jung’s theory of individuation that explores the Persona-Shadow-Ego side of our personalities. BTS’ Black Swan is about the fear of losing passion for something you once loved (in this song, BTS refers to their music/art/dance), but finding your way out of that dark place/thoughts to find your passion for it again (the lyrics referencing swimming out of the abyss/waves of negative thoughts). BTS member/leader RM and PDogg were the main writers of this song. There are 2 versions/videos of Black Swan. This one and an orchestral version (which is my personal favorite) and BTS created an art film with MN Dance company from Slovenia for that one which coincided with their “Connect BTS” collaboration with several visual and performance artists and galleries throughout the world. BTS is next level pop music-they’re Art!

Your interpretation is correct. Losing passion for what we had loved, what had been an essence of our life is a fearful idea for every artist, and the burnouts (deaths) are real. The solo dancer is Jimin, who is one of the best contemporary dancers in the industry. Actually, for me he IS the best, and every time I watch any of his performances I am overthrown by his artistry.

This reaction video was amazing, BTS have songs such as Lie by Jimin (he is one of the BTS members and he was the main dancer in this music video of Black Swan), Boy Meets Evil by J-Hope and in my opinion, they have a similar vibe to this one. Some of their more upbeat songs are Mic Drop, Dionysus (which has just a stage mix not a music video), Not Today, Fire...

This song isn’t to say they have lost their passion for music, but moreso that they go through periods where they’re absolutely terrified that one day they WILL lose that passion and then they’ll have nothing to live for. Especially for Yoongi and Joon, who have been creating music in one way or another all of their lives and never wanted to do anything else. But they clarify in the lyrics that when they get that panic under control and fight back the anxiety, they realize that it is a baseless fear, because they know that they’ll never tire or music and performing and being with each other

Basically this is about them singing about being scared losing their passion for their art. Passion for music and what they're doing right now that make them happy and excite them. They said that if this can no longer make my heart beat (means if their passion can no longer make their heart beat and get exited) then maybe it's my first death (first death, means it hurts that your passion no longer excites you and it seems like you die), there's saying that "a dancer dies twice, first is when they stop dancing and second is when they actually die" and that is also apply to this song.
Also this also inspired in ballet, that quote also apply to ballerina because they have passion for dancing and when they stop dancing it pains them so much that it can be their first death and that first death was much more painful, it actually apply to all of us who are passionate on something. BTS is dancing contemporary dance here, this song is so deep and it made me happy that BTS is not afraid to say how afraid they are when that moment come, the moment that their art no longer made their heart beat, they're not afraid to show honesty and that's what I love about them.

The song is actually about them being afraid of losing their passion for music and feeling numb. you see, an artist experiences 2 deaths, the death of their passion for music and then their actual death but since music is an artists life, it kinda is similar to them as just straight up dying since in both cases you lose your life but in the first one, their life is music and in the second one it's literally their life. you do seem to get the idea behind the song it's just a lil deeper :)

Jimin was a trained dancer before entering BTS. J-hope won hip hop dance contests before BTS. Other members have learned and worked so hard to get to where they are now. personally, since i also love black swan the movie, i do see the inspiration. black swan with natalie portman is a must-watch. it's definitely generally about the struggle of an artist to be the best and also to remain passionate of their craft. black swan the song is about someone's passion and the struggles (the shadow) that comes with it. this is a progressive song though... the first part is about the doubt and fear of losing that passion. the second part is about coming into terms that there will always be a dark side but one must face it head on and never forget why they're passionate about what they're doing - in suga's part it says it all when he mentioned going into the dark and opening his eyes in the studio - it's a portrayal that he remembers it's cos he loves making music. 💜

  • @thanderlin4058
    @thanderlin4058 Před 3 lety +1

Pretty good interpretation. They have NOT lost their love for music. I can say for sure that BTS will always want to be on stage - live performances is what they live for. However this song is an acknowledgement that they have a fear of 'WHAT IF' they lose their love for music in general. They love music so much that the hypothetical is a genuine fear them. But hasn't happened yet. This ties into the theme of Jung Psychology about the human identity. You must acknowledge both light and dark within you. This is one of themes their albums are based around.

I like how you try to interpret the songs, and you were pretty good on this one. There will be some that will throw you for a loop though, and there will be explanation videos as Korean doesn't necessarily translate correctly. RM the leader reads a lot of books, so this song was based upon Carl Jung's philosophy so some of these songs are related to psychoanalysis, and how he uses shadow as a representative of your other self. If you watch Daechwita , Ugh, Ddaeng, you can watch explanation videos on DKDKTV who explain it well as they break down what it means in Korean. If you watch Spring Day, that is a movie within itself, watch the explanation video by Bulletproof vibes, that one has actual film clips that relate to the theory of the music video. There are other explanation videos but they get more into the tragedy itself. Or just ask your viewers, many will know the answer.

This could be a connection of many stories about a Black Swan. I think the ballet is about a swan. The Ugly Duckling story is another one.

  • @magdalenagabrowska8169

There is ballet Swan lake that Black Swan movie takes from, all dance in movie is from the Swan lake, and the concept for movie was born from oryginal ballet. So there is a lot you can take from different art and look at this song. And there are the words of Martha Graham that people write.
So Yes you got it right they are scared that mucis won't be thier passion and won't make them happy anymore at some piont but even then they still what to fight and make it and music be thier life forever.

  • @heyitsalli9173
    @heyitsalli9173 Před 3 lety +1

You’re pretty much on point. Black Swan contains meaningful, deep lyircs. Such an underrated song. Plus, the mv is a MASTERPIECE. It is inspired by the quote “A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." by Martha Graham. This song talks about losing one’s passion. Artists don’t talk about that often. It dives deep into the group's fears as artists. BTS contends that the day that music no longer fills them with the same passionate fire as before, or even if there came a day when they stopped creating music - what they feel is their life's purpose - it would feel like death. Two Filipino songwriters, August Rigo and Vince Nantes, composed and wrote lyrics for “Black Swan,” alongside BTS leader RM, multiawarded producer Pdogg and rapper Clyde Kelly. In BTS "universe" there's a theory that might be helpful for this types of songs and MVs and it says that each member represents an archetype or a though from Carl G. Jung psychoanalysis theory (which its BTS takes inspiration from).
    - Jin is the real human (body and soul)
    - Jungkook represents the persona ( the one we show)
    - V is the shadow (the one we hide or tend to stigmatize)
    - jimin represents a transition or change which always implies a decision that can be surrounded by our conscience (Jhope) and our subconscious (Suga) in other to achieve some of dreams or ambitions ( RM)
I don't think it's a coincidence that the chorus is a conversation between jungkook and jimin, then jimin and V and finally Jin to jimin and the verses tends to be a confrontation between Suga and RM and then Jhope with Suga ( when the song becomes more hopeful)

    3 things.
1.The subtitles are wrong there when they say
killin me now- subtitles say film me now.
2.The song actually speaks of how much they love doing what they do. And the day they lose this passion it will be there first death, more painful. Inspired by Martha Grahm quote.
    3. You talked of fans. That interpretation was incorrect.
The connection between BTS and their fandom is unique as no other fandom ever. May sound strange, but it is true.
The history of BTS and Army is also unique. BTS were underdogs, shunned by the kpop industry who put roadblocks on their way. A blessing in disguise because they did things differently unlike groups of established companies.
This is BTS Army by XCeleste is a good watch to really see what the fandom Army is all about.
    4. To know where BTS comes from you could watch these 3 videos all by XCeleste, in your own time without reacting if you dont want to, but I promise their story is awesome.

I personally believe a focus on industry pressures is too narrow a view of what's happening here. As a visual artist, I experience the same conflicts. I don't have an industry sitting on me. This has to do with the nature of creativity. The pressure you feel from inside yourself, which is echoed by people outside you, which you would not be responsive to if it were not a reverberation of what you're feeling yourself, as well as the cyclical nature of creativity, which drives actions, and drives moods as well.
When I design, paint, or write something, after it is published, I react by pulling away from it. This retreat is essential to becoming refreshed to be able to make something new. But while it is happening, it feels like a small death. I go through this experience a couple of times a week.
Besides this kind of little death thing, there is also a sense of distortion of time. It's a depressing, almost sickening, feeling, altogether. It's taken me many years to learn to bear with it, that I always come out of it, free and open on the other side, and ready to make something new. It is very much like being on a sailboat on a good sea, and a squall comes along and dumps you, and you are struggling underwater, and really struggling I mean, and then after a few hours or a day or two, suddenly walking on the beach, it's a bright day, the ocean is blue, the waves are low, the air is fresh, the damp sand feels good underfoot, and you can do whatever you want. The quality of recovery is so positive, it's what makes the down part of the creative cycle possible to bear with.

You should react to the whole Map of the Soul:7 album 😛 most of the songs you’ve seen are all from that album. “Louder than Bombs,” “On” and “Black Swan” are all from that album.
It’s called Map of the Soul based of Carl Jung’s book Map of the Soul and the album uses his psyciatric teaching as a template. The first third are mostly bright, happy songs having to do with the Persona. The middle are all darker, really harsh instrospecive songs having do to do the Shadow, or dark side of the personality. It’s from this section that most of the songs you’ve heard are from. And the rest of the album has to do with the Ego, or the true core self. A lot of those songs are solos or sub unit songs and very personal to the specific members who made them.
The whole album is called Map of the Soul:7 . 7 because there are 7 members and they released it in (February ) 2020, when they had been together for 7 years so they named thier album the third 7 making it lucky 777

It's more comfortable for me, easier to move to the music. When I am sitting its just a lot of head bobbing, so I wanted to include more of my body motion and standing allows me to do that. Just easier to move.

Hi :) I like your reactions a lot! You always pay attention to the lyrics and what the might want to convey through them. Are you familiar with Sugas (real name Yoongi) And RMs (real name Namjoon) Solo Albums? they are so good! I love the D2 album from Yoongi (when he produces an album on his own he takes the alias AgustD). The song Strange kind of really stayed with me and from Namjoons Album MONO is also a masterpiece and I honestly cry every time I listen to moonchild :)) I'm sure you'll like the songs as well. Even if you can't make a reaction to them I recommend them as really good songs to listen to in your free time

Thought this one was a bridge too far for me. It didn't feel real to me. The performance is amazing but it didn't have the feel/emotion of the BTS I know. Just seemed a bit out of character. Not a True Army here, just a big fan. Entirely possible I missed the message.
