  • How To Make A Modern But Classic Bridal Shower Bouquet
    The fashion at the moment is for hand-tied bridal bouquets, but for an elegant shower style, a bridal holder allows you the flexibility to create something really special. In this video we create a bridal design, so you can see how to approach creating this type of arrangement. From wiring in the longer stems, to creating a good finish from behind, this video will hopefully inspire you. You might never make one, but we hope you enjoy watching!
    Ingredients - white calla and black calla lilies, white phalanopsis orchids, white lisianthus or eustoma, rub us, kalanchoe, small succulent plants / echevaria, reindeer moss, French rusckus, eucalyptus, large ivy leaves and an ivy trail

      Flower Joos you have a great voice and an absolute to die for accent...i have a question. How come u dont see florists ...or evenncreative you tuners that do arrangements using fresh cut flowers and actual plants in pots...especislly for a gifts...i asked.a florist and she looked at me like i was crazy..and changed the subject.

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 6 lety

      Agusta Sister thank you for the question. So, plants and flowers together in a design? This is a style known as pot-e-Fleur and was very popular about 30 years ago. I think florists have specialised more to flowers. Traditionally they were flowers, plants and fruit and vegetables but now most florist shops are not so suitable for holding plants. It’s a pity, as houseplants are really making a comeback as they are so healthy in the home. It is possible to design around a single plant, or make designs using just one type. We shall add a few designs into our videos!

      Flower Joos ...well..THANKYOU....i NOW have a search term maybe i.can find something on pinterest...i came right back to say i found one on u tube..lol..but it looked like a potted plant that had a couple of flowers an a bow stuck in it..yuck

      @agustasister5624 Před 6 lety

      Flower Joos also..i now live in a tiny old town..and our florist retired...he had three green houses attached to his shop...evidently not used used in ages. I asked why they did not sell the business...they live in thr back and did not want to leave...it had been in the family for.generstions but must of suffered a fire or tornado because thr shop house looks to be constructrd in the 1970s..the green houses are well constructed and look much older...maybe 1950...so sad...all that knowledge and skills..and facilities and no one in the family took it on. Anyway it explain those three green houses....i had never seen that before...
      And im old

    They have this stuff in the USA called "crowning glory". They just spray that on the flowers and they last for a few weeks. A work of art like this should last for as long as possible. Just so beautiful!

    A very clearly demonstrated video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. No wonder why some florist complains about their flowers falling off the bouquets. It’s the technique and one of the main step they try to avoid to secure flowers in a cascading bouquet to save some time, but what about the embarrassment😏. I like this idea better then spraying the glue. Thanks for a detailed video. I’ve learned a lot from it. A good teacher always produce a good student. Thank you again.😊♎️

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you! The berries are specifically grown for cutting and using - they are quite hard, so no danger of staining. That’s a good point though. I think the aim was to be slightly aysymetricsl - maybe that is why lighter on the rhs.

    Hi John, that was a wonderful demonstration and running commentary as you designed the bouquet. You used some very interesting material (moss) which I've not thought of putting into a bouquet before, but didn't it help produce a stunning bouquet. I especially appreciated the wiring of the calla lily, even the really short stems. It's always good to watch others demonstrating, you can learn so much. I like the back drop, hadn't thought of that either! Helps to make the arrangement stand out, it's clean and clear. Thank you once again - and the photography was good too!

    John, you have such an incredible aesthetic and eye for line, balance as well as textural contrast. What a beautiful bouquet and wonderful tutorial! Thank you, as always, for sharing your skills and talent. One question: is there a name for the apparatus you used as a bouquet holder? Hand tieds are still "all the rage" here in the midwestern US, but I can see the oasis wet foam bouquet and cascade making a comeback soon. More metropolitan areas on both coasts are already making the switch, but it takes a bit for these trends to make it to the middle. I'd like to have one of theses holders so that I'm ready to sell this style as soon as I can.

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 6 lety

      Henry Stollard thank you for commenting ! The holder has been in my work for years so I do t know where we got it, but it is exactly the same as you would find in a science lab in a school. It’s great because it is so adjustable. It even has another arm, so if you had a bridesmaids version, you could leave it supported on the stand when finished, while working on the bridal one.
      Yes, hand-tied bouquets rule the roost here also, but shower or cascade styles are stunning on the right bride / dress, so it’s all about selling. If o have a bride I think this will suit I tell them about it first. Brides need a confident florist - and if you are confident you can sell them this style, as long as it is the right style for them!

    Ty John.😊 I've followed your channel 4 a lil while I was subscriber #8. Now you're over 15K. Your Badass rock star amazing self !This Industry needs you.The industry of Floristry in America is losing its footing 2 mass market enterprises such as Wal-Mart K-mart even Target with low pricing no personalization & Big fake Icons like Martha Stewart that boasted on many occasions that training in art of design is unnecessary whilst arranging by segregated groupings or 15 stems of same flower No depth No texture No movement plain & lame pieces. As a florist I despise the everything's "disposable" mentality. The way I've been combating that energy is to educate w in-store workshops & when I design bouquets w succulents or roses I include a "care" package w a list of techniques 2 plant/grow em in2 the anchor/matriarch w multiple off shoots sim 2 Sansaveria (snakeplant/mother-in-laws-tongue) or Bromeliads .As many ppl like keepsakes of the special occasion w/out incurring additional expenses 2 the buyer

      designprosb thank you so much for the lovely comments - I never thought of myself as BadAss but I am happy with that! I think you are right, floristry has lost its skill level to cater to economy, and that’s a real shame, as it’s our special thing, the thing that defines us as experts.
      Shops here can’t compete with the hours offered by the big retailers - and maybe that is something small florists need to address. Maybe see if they can’t stay open much later. It depends on the geography.
      Adding that little extra - a keepsake, or pot, is a good idea!

    Is very wonderful, I'm freaking out with it! It seems gentle, elegant, original and different. Is very nice.
    Congratulations!! I love it!!
    Job, how do you get keeping the flowers wet in the oasis since you make the bouquet until you give it to the customer.
    Do you save the bouquet in a special place with and correct temperature until give it to the client? For instance, and special fridge or something like that.
    I like a lot the calas and the orquideas.
    Thanks so much...
    😊. 🦓🥀

      Judith Montesdeoca zerpa thank you! Ideally I would create this on the day required, but you could make it the afternoon before. For storage I would place it somewhere cool - not in a fridge because of the orchids. It possible maybe to give a slight mist with water, and then cover with a thin plastic sheet or bag just to help create a microclimate.
      So it can be left on the stand until boxed for delivery.
      Thanks for watching and your lovely comments 😀🙋🏼‍♂️

    Beautiful work!! Would you be willing to share where I might be able to find and purchase a bouquet stand similar to the one you use when you make your bridal bouquets. I live in the United States in the southern New Jersey area. I would very much appreciate your help! Thank you for your help and for all your amazing videos...I simply can’t get enough!

    you are an exquisite designer, do you finish off the back of the bouquet holder and handle? if so what and how do you do it?

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 6 lety

      Kathy Chavez thank you for the lovely comment. Yes, I would finish off the back. Normally I would use satin ribbon to cover the handle. This is simple and easy, and in regard to cost is not expensive. It could be finished in a few different ways though, such as cord or even beargrass as a tail. If fancy, then probably worth doing the finish before starting the bouquet itself.

    Hi John!! will you make another cascade tutorial and emphasize about the shape, lines, proportion... how to. I love this one for the mechanics but the flower part is still looking so complicated for me! I want to make one of these for me next year wedding!

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 6 lety +3

      HD .E it is complicated so yes, we could do a classic version video! If you want to make one for yourself, then I would suggest you practise, practise practise.... it will also be quicker and you will know how to place flowers and how best to secure them.
      I want to do a few versions using a holder.

    Hi John thank you for your beautiful presentation. I’ve just been asked to do a bouquet for a friend and it’s my first. I’m new to arranging and would like to give her a this as a gift. Could you tell me what size wire guage did you use? Many thanks🙂

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 2 lety

      Hi there. The wires used were -
      The thin green wire - 0.22
      Stub wire 0.24
      Thicker rose silver wire - 0.26
      Thin silver rose wire 0.28
      Hope that helps. This is an item that needs a good amount of practice, so please have a few trial runs to see how you get on - it will be less stressful I think 😀🌼

    Where did you get the great metal stand and holder for holding the foam bouquet holder?

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 2 lety

      This is a science lab stand - like you have in school classes. You can find them online to buy - we had this for years at work so I’m not sure where it was sourced originally. It’s good as it’s flexible and has a good weighted base

  • @iceblue1457

    This is artistry. How do you decide what flowers to use?

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 6 lety +1

      Ice Blue for a wedding bouquet this would of been decided when discussing the flowers with the bride, so it’s just a case of working out how many of each key flower is needed per item you are going to create. I use a wedding flower plan sheet to pop in each flower for each item - then the total gives me the flower order to get in for doing the whole event.

    • @iceblue1457

    May I know what gauge size wire did you use to tie the flowers used in this video?

  • @prebbleprebble791
    @prebbleprebble791 Před 2 lety +1

    On the one hand I’m told there are different gauges of wire but I’m not told which gauge is best for what? I’m a complete novice and thick or thin is not enough for me please tell me what gauge you’re using at any given time

    • @FlowerJoos
      @FlowerJoos  Před 2 lety +1

      That is a good point. For the thinnest silver rose wire the gauge is 0.28 and the slightly thicker rose wire is .26
      For the green flexible wire the gauge is .22.
      Where we are based you can find that the wholesaler might not have a bundle of the one you just had for the last 4 years, so it’s really good to get a feel of how you find different wires and how they preform.
      These big bundles of wires last for ages though. 😀
