Michael Redmond 9p, hosted by the AGA E-Journal’s Chris Garlock, reviews the 41st game of the amazing AlphaGo vs. AlphaGo selfplay games (sgf posted here: www.usgo.org/n.... The 50-game series was published by Deepmind after AlphaGo's victory over world champion Ke Jie 9p in May 2017.
In this commentary, Redmond talks about a special video his mother made about the first time a young Michael met Iwamoto, “who did so much to promote go overseas.”
Today’s game starts with the Chinese Opening, “which is a little unusual for AI’s, we’ll see a few 3-3 invasions and of course some exciting fighting involving some groups where you’ll be wondering if they’re dead or alive.”
Also, tune in this Sunday on Twitch / usgoweb at 7p EDT for another live commentary, this one on the Ichiriki-Shibano game from Pandanet’s recent “Golden Panda Cup”

I must say that Game 41 was a particularly interesting and well-commentated one, with great insights, brilliant and surprising moves by AlphaGo, and lots of fun and laughs had by Michael, Chris, and the viewers as well. I especially liked Michael's insights at the end about how the opportunities to make great plays sometimes go to one player more than the other simply due to the way the game unfolds, and how that can be incorrectly perceived as one person being "outplayed" or "not having a good day", when they were actually playing at their normally high level. A jewel of a video seemingly from out of nowhere in these strange and turbulent times.

Very good at this game robot.
Robot so good at playing this game that already it has changed the way the very top players -- Redmond is the real thing, A soaked-in-Tokyo, beaten and beaten and beaten in the Kiin, professional Nine Dan. -- changed the way the top players will play from here on out.
      Amazing!

I have enough trouble with 4 variations after the attachment at L4.
After the answer at Q4 (which I did actually think of, as KataGo plays this sort of thing on 13x13 2 stone games with me quite often), there are at least 6 natural local responses plus (heaven forbid) a counter-counter probe somewhere!!
    Brain fried...
Massive hat tip to Michael for working out the "logic" of this exchange and even being able to explain it so well we mortals can almost think we understand it!!

After 6. O17, the only continuation in AlphaGo Teach's opening book is 7. Q14. But after that, there are 248 unique variations: online-go.com/review/426550

    Great video!
Anybody has links for the unofficial Japanese tournaments streamed through CZcams Michael mentioned in the beginning of the video?
Sounds like a lot of fun!
