Lady DIED and her home became the neighbors WORST nightmare

- I spoke with the neighbor about this abandoned home and she told me that the lady died years ago and nobody has cleaned it up. Well, I decided to spend the entire day completely transforming this overgrown mess. I started by edging the curbs and sidewalks and eventually made my way to the front walkway. It was completely hidden and took me about an hour to uncover it. It was so satisfying to scoop all the dirt our and restore the look of the front of the home. Finally, I got my Hustler mower out to cut the tall grass and blew everything off to reveal a nice, clean finish.

Yeah, my neighbors across the street were having trouble keeping up on their yard. I mow it after I mow my yard now. They are an older couple, really nice people. They pay me every now and then, I tell them it's too much, but they insist. That money goes for fuel for my mower and string for the trimmer. I just moved here a few months ago after the rent was getting jacked up a 3rd year in a row.
This time, the neighbor said the lady died a few years ago.
Of course, we don't know about the house.
But please make sure to have a.will or living trust. If you don't have family, can always leave any property to whomever you wish: church or synagogue, a charity, etc. I'm guessing no one inherited this property, so it seems abandoned. Sad.
@@pamabernathy8728usually if taxes are not paid on the property, the county or city will confiscate it and while they go thru the procedures, they are responsible for the lawn upkeep. If the house falls into bad disrepair then they tear it down. That's how it goes where I live.
When you revealed that front walk way that was buried in dirt and bushes/poison ivy, it was insane. You do such amazing work. Thank you for doing this for others who can't. Seriously, great work. It's a really cute house and I hope someone can buy it now.

I’m super allergic to poison ivy and have been hospitalized for it one time. After watching you work so close to it and almost in it, I commend you. You got some balls to do that. My anxiety was through the roof.
Luckily it don’t do me bad but I was weed eating once and it splattered right in my eye I got some rubbing alcohol and rubbed my eye and allowed it to get in my eye it burnt so bad and yes I know it’s not something I should use to clean my eye but I panicked lol but luckily it was just itchy for a day and that’s all it helped but now to be honest the eye I did it in might not be as good anymore lol
To someone who doesn't know, they may just go and pull that out thinking it's a weed. That should have been removed with gloves and cut up so it doesn't touch anyone, properly.
Enquiring from Britain where poison ivy isn't found: will a good systemic weedkiller spray kill poison ivy?

@@sassy180seconded. or at least blazed with orange tape, something that just points out hey caution. Don't think you all could've been pulled but at least cut at the base and alert. A surprising amount of folks don't know. A friend of mine pulled what belatedly figured out included poison ivy. Had been cleaning up brush and used some dried as kindling for a bonfire. And of course stopped by, helped with the fire, got what I now know was burning poison ivy vine smoke right in my face, and came less than a millimeter from needing ER care (that's how swollen my eyes were, and urgent care doc said the second I couldn't see that was it). Never had a reaction like that ever in my life super fun. 😐
@@sassy180 this exact thing happened to my aunt, who lives in the country. She was off work for a month recovering from it, multiple doctor trips for strong steroids. She just thought it was a normal vine like Virginia Creeper or Grapevine, didn’t think anything of it as she has never had poison ivy grow around (let alone on) her house in the 30 years she’s owned the place. Took a bath after the yard work was done so it spread everywhere on her. I don’t think she even knew it could climb walls like that.

Hi Spencer! I love watching you transform all of these homes. Poison ivy is a pain! I have used my hand lopers to cut the root, then picked it up with them and put the vine in an opened and supported trash bag. Also works for cutting and picking op picker type weeds that i can then pile up. So far it has worked for years. No poison ivy. you be careful out there! Thank you for your videos, and all of your hard work.

You did an amazing job! I'm surprised that all the neighbors didn't come running out to thank you. Great before & after photos. What's terribly sad is that the homeowner had died, and there was obviously no family to care for her home or settle her estate and sell the house...
It can take years to settle an estate. I served as executor (personal rep) for one, and it took 6 years to complete. I said, "Never Again!"
After having just healed from three weeks of poison ivy, I fully understand your caution when working around it! You did a great job without cutting the poison ivy! Stay safe!
He could have used the shovel to cut the vine near the base of the poison ivy and that would least kill the vine from growing bigger.

much respect for what you do. It took me two days, working my butt off in my front yard, and i'm a renter just doing it to make the palce less sloppy. but itsa hard work dude. hard labor shoverls, weeds wackers replacing line every 20 feet it was a chore the sun was down and i still had trouble and its not even done but its better than it was-- I don't know how you do it bro respect.

Amazing transformation. I am SO glad you didn't get poison ivy. We are on the west coast. My husband grew up in VA. He is extremely allergic to poison oak & also to the oil from pepper trees. They grew as volunteer trees in a great spot in our yard. He breaks out badly with any contact. I am CA born & raised & I have never had a reaction to poison oak. Still careful.

It's probably still locked up in an estate probate. I was executor for an estate, and it took me 6 years to complete it, and with lawyer helping.
I like to think of a real estate agent tasked with selling the house bringing potential buyers out to see it, thinking the whole time "no one will want to buy this ugly mess", and then showing up the day after it's been cleaned up SB and being shocked at the transformation.
I love your work, but it also makes me sad to see how many properties are left abandoned after a person dies. I don't know if it's because they have absolutely no relatives or if the heirs choose to just ignore the property. But this has made me realize that I need to leave instructions for my property after I die. I'm going to leave provisions in case my relatives don't want to take care of my property so that some charity can sell it and use the funds to help kids or homeless people or somebody. It's a shame that all those houses aren't sold and the money put to good use.
So glad you are hip to the poison ivy and stay safe! Now, I enjoy nature so don't view many of these overgrowth situations as a negative at all. That said, this house is sweet and deserves a good show. Great work as usual. 🌺

Another great transformation! I love how at 15:38 you were working so hard to get that smaller bush/tree out with the shovel then finally went to get the power tool just for the bush to come right up when you pulled on it, ha!

I know you try to avoid poison ivy, but do they make a tool that you can at least cut the bottom of the vine so it will die? I figure if there was something like that where you can cut it from a distance without exposing yourself to the oils (through contact or mist), at least it would wither and would hopefully fall off eventually.

Every time you reached for your hat or forehead, I shouting, Don't touch yourself. This from a person who had poison ivy three times in a year. The front of the house was a disaster. A chain saw at ground level would have made your job simpler. Another outstanding job Spencer. For sure the neighbors are very appreciative.
