I love how Rosa, after getting no love after her inroductions, just hopped into Masters after chugging some personality juice and became the mascot of the game as well as a giant meme.

That was the case with me. When I first played B2W2, I didn't like Rosa's design, but once Masters released, that game made her seem so adorable that I ended up liking her more in both design and character.

You gotta feel sorry for Lucas, he’s one of the least represented Male characters due to Dawn being extremely popular. The BDSP trailers seem to be giving him a lot more attention though.
I've always like the scarf that Lucas wears, and I also like his D/P outfit more than his Platinum outfit.
Also, besides that very brief cameo he got in the anime, the only real reference to Lucas is Ash's D/P outfit looking a tiny bit similar to Lucas's D/P outfit.
At least his manga counterpart Diamond is good

I think the reason why Gloria hasn’t appeared in the anime yet is because Ash wouldn’t be able to handle her Scottish temper and not even the heaviest of censors would be able to stop her from cursing every five minutes

Slight correction, Green is 20 in the manga, but that is as her latest appearance. In her first appearance she was 11 in the Red Chapter.
They’re overthinking it, I’m pretty sure Green is meant to be Leaf and vice versa. On the Wiki they’re on the same page.

@@lunerblade13 None of the in-game protagonists have personalities. You may as well consider Red and Blue entirely unrelated characters to their manga counterparts going by that metric. Which sounds pretty silly.
Imagine a Pokemon main character being 20, or imagine Ash being 20.
@@RGC_animation Red is canonically 28 in his BW2 appearance and he and Blue are also canonically 30 in SM so there’s that. Wish we got more cameos from past protagonists but hey at least we have everyone in Masters (not counting LG, Legends and Gen 9 at the moment edit: never mind)
I wish Hilbert and Hilda were in more Pokemedia. Yeah sure their names sound like they were born in the 50's but they have such cool designs and are probably the closest a protagonist other than Red has got to making a second appearance before Masters.
Hilda probably would've been much more likable than iris's anime counterpart. Then again, a lot of characters are more likable than iris's anime counterpart.

Agree, Hilda is my personal favorite protagonist design by far, and it hurts me that she keeps getting shafted lol Ahh well, just a few more years until the gen 5 remakes... lol

Honestly, I’m kinda surprised that the introduction of parallel universes in Gen VI didn’t start introducing a lot more appearances of past protagonists, because having things like the anime and Pokémon Adventures with very different takes on the same character means that the excuses of not wanting to pick between the male and female protagonist, or override the fans own interpretations of those characters can just be written off using the parallel universe thing.
I think they're doing a pretty good job with that, for starters we have evolutions now, but masters has been implying for a long time that none of the characters we're playing with are from the same universe, they're all just similar enough to understand each other as if they were. I'm super hype for when they'll go full in on that idea, could even be soon with Rainbow Rocket since we know RR is supposed to have non Mega verse Maxie and Archie, but if not that's fine because someday they'll need to resell us another version of the most profitable characters and we need to still promo /include Hisui starting next year.

You read my mind. I really you wish the "canon" protagonist introduced in Masters will only stay in masters and not in the lore. As much as I like some of their given personality and who is the protagonist and who is not, It still kinda unfair for people who pick the protagonist who are depicted as such in Masters. I remember one player said its weird seeing Hilda not remembering N because he played as Hilda in the game. Some player even wish that there are option to choose who is the protagonist and who is not and arrange the dialog accordingly. I honestly think it would be a good features.

Well they have their own personalities😂... Leaf is obsessed with protecting everyone, Ethan is a natural born adventurer, Lyra likes to remind you she is a more experienced trainer than you (in a non ostile way sure, but still annoying), Brendan looks like a troublemaker (kinda in love with May), May seems so sweet and 100% oblivious to Brendan😂, Dawn is very similiar to Lyra but with a great disposition for contests, Hilbert looks like that one great friend who will always be on your side, Hilda has a firing passion for battles, Rosa is a living meme and that one girl friend everyone wants, Nate is a crybaby, Serena honestly seems always elegant and charming (perfect for a French based region), Calem is that one guy who plans even when to go to the bathroom, Elio is friendly, Selene is dumb and annoying asf while Gloria is super cute... That's what I get by seeing them in Masters

Actually, Nate and Rosa *do* talk in the core series. Specifically, they speak during the Pokéstar Studios movies.
I hate the whole thing about a "silent protagonist", that's kind of just Red's shtick, it's implied a lot in the other games that the protagonists are not mute. Also Red talks a lot in Pokemon Generations. I think gamefreak just considers forcing the player character to say predetermined responses would break immersion.

Then Evolutions came out with May actually showing her face but being silent still. Then there's that one time Blue called him a chatty gossip which is kind of implied when he was talking to copycat and explains why people talk about Pokemon, Red starts the conversation asking "do you like Pokemon"
Since you mentioned some of the "canon" protagonists in Pokemon Masters, the others, for anyone wondering, are:
-Red (I mean c'mon, it's made pretty obvious by now)
-Ethan (Silver's rival; yes, Lyra mentions battling Red, but she also talks about her grandparent's daycare and her Marill which are things that relate to the support character)
-Brendan (Norman's son and states he already defeated him, Wally's rival; May is stated to be Prof. Birch's daughter and she focuses on field research, aka the role designated to the rival character, she prefers contests now over battles)
-Dawn (From Twinleaf Town, states that Barry is her longtime childhood friend; Lucas still isn't in the game)
-Hilbert (Cheren's rival/friend, mentions various instances related to the game's main plot... especially those related to N; Hilda is insanely battle focused which may imply her being the partner from the battle subway)
-Rosa? (I'm still not 100% sure on this one, but she IS one of the main characters in masters first story arc; Nate's sync story is a reference to/copy of the battle subway in BW2)
-Serena (Calem states that Serena used to be really quiet, a reference to the silent protagonist, he also has an Espurr which is a core member of the rival's team, and he talks about not always wearing his cap which references the fact that the rival doesn't wear a hat in XY)
-Elio/Selene? (This one is a toss up... they both came from Kanto, both of their moms have a Kantonian Meowth, they both challenged the island challenge, and both know all the Alola characters)
-Gloria (Has Zacian while Hop has Zamazenta which references the main story in SwSh; Victor isn't in the game yet)
Yeah. Though I wonder if this'll carry over into the lore proper or just stay as "Masters continuity" or something. Curious about it but these all make sense as they are
it’s probably likely that elio and selene still have the dumb alternate universe stuff like how usum was an alternate version of sun and moon making them interchangeable
Rosa does mention having a neighbor who's sister's Pokémon got stolen, referencing here Hugh, so it is pretty much safe to assume that she's the protagonist, especially since Nate seems extremely familiar with Ingo and Emmet

Finally, I thought i was the only one who noticed this. I'm sure its not canon, but Gamefreaks explanation for their lack of facial animations being giving them textbook neurodivergent traits is just too funny.
While I've always felt more connected to the male protagonists, I still found it shocking and sad that Kris was replaced with Lyra, instead of being redesigned for HGSS. As much as I love those games, and agree that they were awesome games, the fact that Kris was replaced with Lyra, when Crystal already brought in the first female protagonist is a big flaw with the game, and a missed opportunity for Game Freak to reference the first ever female protagonist to make it into a Pokémon game.
I agree, I try to think about them as being the same character, just with a change of hair color. The manga actually kept them as one by giving Lyra’s outfit to Kris. The anime however…
Then the Gotcha music video just forgot Kris exists. This is Kris erasure. Leaf also got the same treatment for years but now there's LGPE Green, which is saying something... I guess...?

@@novemberninth4392 actually leaf if the first female protagonist, her data is found in RBGY and was on promotional art but was cut out due to the cartridge data being full, kris is the first playable female protagonist the maga version was a reference to the RBGY games she was supposed to be put in, she was never a manga made characters, there's proof of this, but leaf was always the first female protagonist and didn't have a name because she was erased then put in FRLG as a female playable character but she was always
@@brian_Austin27 Leaf/Green started off only in promotional arts and that itself they're not exactly real characters, the developers originally didn't plan on making any female player characters. She made an appearance in the promotional art because the designers wanted to have the scene of THREE trainers battling, fitting with the amount of starters. So, Kris still is the first one.
It's even mentioned that Leaf/Green's design was ONLY based off of the unnamed trainer in the promotional art. She wasn't a protagonist, yet, until FRLG.
But you're not wrong about the trainer that inspired her design being an early trainer concept.
Honestly, Green and Leaf are no more different characters than Manga Red and Game Red, or Dawn and Platinum Berlitz. They exist in different continuities but are alternate versions of the same character. I really do not understand why there's so much of an argument about that.
Indeed, Green from Let’s Go is 100% Leaf from FR/LG, she just has a personality now.
I think the problem comes down to her name: in FR/LG, her official name is Leaf, however in Let's go, her lookalike's official name is Green. So it begs the question as to why they decided to rename her in the 2018 games, while giving her a different enough design from her 3rd generation counterpart. And to add even more confusion on top of that, Masters, an other official source, which came out after the let's go games (2019), released Leaf in her FR/LG outfit (2020), while keeping the name Leaf, so if they just wanted to rename the character, then that decision makes no sense (she's also the only character to have suffered from this name confusion, no one else, save for Brendan in the French version of the ORAS special demo, have had that happen to them, as far as I know). So unless we get actual confirmation, either from Masters or TPC, that they're one and the same, or alternate characters, the confusion will stay, because no matter what, it is an odd situation.
It's literally just the name. I don't know why they didn't just call her Green and make her look like her manga couterpart instead of "Red but girl" as it stands, Leaf and Green are technically 2 different people as Green started to exist in the games but Pokemon still used the name and therefore the character of Leaf in Masters. A "two sides of the same coin" deal if you will.
I like to believe that they’re are two gamefreak employees who keep arguing on a name for Green/Leaf. And eventually they settled the dispute by just splitting her into two different characters each having the name they wanted. But ye to me Green and Leaf are the equivalent to Red in RBY and Red in FRLG. Red and Blue where both wearing their Classic outfits from the original games in Let’s GO. So Green is a classic version of Leaf had she actually existed in Gen 1. If you get what I mean.

1. The name change. I've always associated Green to be the manga counterpart and Leaf to be the game protagonist.
2. Okay, LGPE is just released and Leaf is Green now? Confusing, but all right. ... But then Masters came along bringing LEAF back, with none of the personality traits that LGPE Green has.
3. LGPE Green's appearance is so brief and so random. Why is she looking for Mewtwo? Where did she get Mega Stones for Mewtwo? Why did she chuck pokeballs at us? I hope we'll find out in Evolutions.
Honestly I feel like GF just decides to pretend Leaf doesn't exist for all these years until LGPE came along and decided to do something about her. But then in Masters they went back to Leaf for some reason, with an Eevee, a Pokémon she has never been associated with in the manga nor LGPE. Maybe Pokémon is as confused as we are.
This is why I wish they'd make two separate Anime shows... If they want to keep Ash then they can do what they're doing now and have him kinda going everywhere. But what I'd truly love, is an Anime each generation that focuses on the games storylines with the main characters being those from the games themselves. It doesn't have to be super long, maybe one/two seasons a gen, but it would be nice to see a full Anime that's based on the games each time there's a new one, instead of just insert main female character as Ash's sidekick or in Journey's case, just wipe them out all together...

Well it stands to reason. Ash has been the face of the anime for decades while they switch out the main protagonist each gen. The only people that come close or on par are Red and maybe Ethan.

@@JPRPokeTrainer98 how about that chase and Elaine are unique characters outside of red and leaf/green, and that's it at least. People who never played LGPE seem to always get that confused when I mention Trace doing things alongside former rival Blue. A lot of people skipped these games for trying to be unconventional, which is downright tragic but their loss.

Red is iconic, while it took nearly 20 years for Leaf to get the recognition she deserved.
Ethan gets some love as the protagonist of the most popular generation, but Kris is highly regarded, while Lyra...exists.
Brendan gets less love, and May is one of Hoenn's most iconic characters, but she's still greatly overshadowed by her successors.
Lucas...oh, poor Lucas has gotten so little love over the years, while Dawn is one of the most beloved protagonists in the franchise, at least partially thanks to her anime counterpart.
Hilbert and Hilda have some of the best character designs in the series, but they vanished after their debut; Nate's design is a step down, and...how the heck did Rosa get so popular?
Calem's another Ash prototype as far as the franchise is concerned, while Serena got ridiculously popular in such a short time.
Elio may as well be a mannequin, Selene has the dumbest hat in the land, and they both play second fiddle to Lillie.
Victor was doomed from the start, no thanks to Gloria's explosive popularity from the moment she was revealed.
Eight generations of protagonists, and for so many of them, the most love they've gotten in their entire lifetime is in the rather obscure manga and a spinoff mobile game. Sadly, I doubt that'll change any time soon.
Now what will become of Rei and Akari??
Technically, Leaf and Kris don't actually exist. They are just alternative options that don't exist in the canon... they are added so you can just play as females.
I think Akari and Rei are stuck in Arceus. Unless Masters wants to pull a Celebi, they're kinda stuck in the past.

I've always been bothered by how the male prtotaganists are generally treated like dirt and mostly ignored compared to their female counterparts. Except Leaf and Kris being treated like dirt too, that always made me prefer the underdog of their respective generation.
I think out of all protaganists, I like Kris for female just because she was the first and has that nostalgia for me and also how shafted she has been. For male, I'm gonna say Brendan as his weird hat thing always fascinated me. Kinda wish it was white hair.
Also kudos for not just calli9ng them all ten and actually looking at their proper ages when referring to age at all, bothers me when people just call them all ten when honestly most are like 11 or 12 or even older. That isn't really important but it is to me,
The problem is that Kris and Leaf weren't real characters. They were just added in as an alternative option to be more inclusive.
And it's not like the male characters are treated worse. It's just that, in the anime, ASH is ALL of the male leads while the female leads also get to shine.

Yeah definitely. The 10 stigma usually comes from the anime protagonists all being 10 but I'm pretty sure every single game protagonist is 11 or older. The Black and White and X and Y trainers are teenagers for crying out loud. Glad I'm not the only one with this stupid pet peeve.

Maybe they should make separated anime where each protagonist portrayed as player character andmake them talk. can we talk about how in an early x/y guidebook, the x/y player characters were referred to as "xavier" and "yvette". loved those names for them. wish they had stuck.
5:34 The reason why fans assume the Gen 2 boy protagonist's canon name is Gold in Gold/Silver/Crystal is because when you name him in Gold Version, the name "Gold" is at the top of the list above "Hiro", "Taylor" and "Karl". Same goes for Red, his canon default name is up top in Red Version above "Ash" and "Jack", and Blue's canon name "Blue" is above "Gary" and "John", especially in Yellow Version. This is also where Ash and Gary get their names in the anime show.
Also, canon name for Johto rival is Silver.
@@vladprus4019 I know, as in Silver Version, because in Silver Version you can give Gold the default names meant for his rival just like in Blue Version you can give Red the default names meant for Blue, and Blue the default names meant for Red. In Silver Version, Silver's default names are "Silver", "Kamon", "Oscar" and "Max", and as I stated before, the name up top is canon, so the Gen 2 rival's canon name is Silver.
(edit): Another example of this is the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum Version rival Barry. In Diamond Version, Barry is the Gen 4 rival's canon name because it is up top above "Damion", "Tyson" and "Markus", and in Platinum the name "Barry" is above "Nolan", "Roy", and "Gavin".

Yeah... I'll stay in this little corner of the fandom with the few Pokemon Adventures fans, hoping against hope that we'll get an anime, knowing how unlikely it is to happen. But hey, Pokémon Adventures appeared in the 25 Years of Pokémon video, so at least we are acknowledged!
Yea, although the official seems to be more inclined to make short anime. And I hope that Kusaka and Yamamoto will not be affected by the timing of the game launch, and try their best to handle the story of each chapter. (Still waiting for the official ending of XY, ORAS, SM, and any new chapters that may appear.)

I'm sure you just forgot to mention it, but Selene will be appearing in the Alola episode of Evolutions, and she will be in her Ultra games design. May will be in the Hoenn episode in her ORAS design, as it's about Zinnia and the Primals.
That's what I love about the Manga. They always bring the old characters back. Like Blue appearing in X and Y or Red and Green appearing in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

I'd never forget my boy Lucas, Platinum has a special place in my heart. When I saw him animated I was hella happy and surprised to see him. I think platinum was the 2nd pokemon game I ever played(except for spin offs like stadium n snap).
I love how Masters gives explanations for Elio and Selene's blank stare. One of them gets lost into thoughts and the other is a day dreamer. Gloria might be my favorite protagonist... both of her versions are so far my only EX Striker pairs... hahaha.
Rosa and Nate do actually talk in Black 2 and White 2. In the Pokéstar studios you can watch the movies you made which include the protagonist acting and speaking lines.
Red is always be the most popular protagonist because he was the first protagonist and his counterpart, Ash, is also the protagonist of the anime.

I really hate how almost all the protagonist(especially Chris and the unova ones) are pretty much shafted away a d treated like they never existed in the games.
I get that Red was the first one, but seriously. You have a chance to show all the other game protagonist with differing personalities and past, but you don’t take that chance. At least the manga writers have the guts to do just that.
I think part of the reason Game Freak doesn't want to give them any distinguishable traits it's to preserve the idea that the Protagonists are us, thus if they made them a specific way, that wouldn't necessarily apply to every single player that played as them. On the flip side, if they did make them NPCs but just silent like Red, then people might complain that they are just copies of Red.
Not saying I'm defending Game Freak, just an idea I thought as to why this might be the case

Masters has the protagonists in it, and gives them personality, so I don’t know what the deal is in the main games. At least it looks like we might see more protagonists of they keep making Let’s Go games, which I don’t think they have any reason not to.
Yeah it's caused my opinion of Red to lower over time honestly. I try to not let stuff like this do that since it's not an issue with the character themselves, just how they're using him or rather NOT using any of the others much. I'm all for a series with cycle protagonists respecting and celebrating its roots and legacy, but the legacy of Pokémon protagonists is way more than just Red, but you'd never assume that looking at the treatment outside of Masters.
If you ignore Kanto and Johto games, then Red only had TWO appearances in games outside his own, and everyone else in Gen 2-4 got ONE.
I have a soft spot for Kris since Crystal was my first game. Hope we see more of her!

To be fair, Leaf and Kris objectively didn't exist. They were literally just an alternative option for the male lead. Like, they canonically didn't really exist.
Lyra was an actual new character and you got to pick between the 2....
@@TheDeathmail Wouldn't Gold be a completely new character in Heart Gold and Soul Silver too? Neither of the gen 2 protagonists really had any personalities at first, and then their remake counterparts both fulfill the same roles, have similar designs, and got a name change. Gold became Ethan and Kris became Lyra.
Now with Green. In Let's Go, Green even has the same poses Leaf had, her hairstyle is the exact same and, it's just clear Leaf was meant to be a redesigned Green for the remakes. They must have just scrapped the idea of having Leaf and just brought Green back, but it's essentially the same character.
Also, it's really hard to define which character is really canon and which isn't, but most official artwork portrays both protagonists together. There's a chance none of the games are canon at all, and they'd be nothing but a representation of the in-game universe or whatever this thing's confusing as hell...
Fun fact, the gen 1 rival's name is Green but because there was no Green version in the US the localization team named him blue. This localization change was also changed in the manga and the name green was given to the female instead despite her japanese name being blue.
In the Gotcha music video there is a shot of a lot of the protagonists silhouettes running across a building and it is filled with so much personality, it’s great. it makes me wish there was an anime of all them hanging out being friends LOL
And in that shot, Leaf and Kris are missing and I'm still mad about it.
Wes from Colosseum was easily the best protagonist ever. He was a badass, he looked cool, he rode a crazy motorcycle, he was a former criminal, he started with 2 pokemon, he had a girlfriend following him around, he stole pokemon, and our introduction to him was him robbing a place and blowing it up. How could anyone ever compete with that?
2nd place goes to Michael from XD Gale of Darkness. While not quite as impressive as Wes, he still had his own list that put him well above the rest.
They really should've given those games their own anime adaptations. (And not just some 3 episode special that skips over everything, or ignores the games completely to tell an unrelated short side story. I mean a full 1 season series for each game that includes everything we'd want.)
Honestly with how you describe Wes, he sounds like a complete Mary Sue. Even among PCs. But I haven't played the games in ages so I can't fully judge.
@@denniswilliams6519 Nah, he was more like an action hero. And him being older, more experienced, and darker than other protagonists gave him a bit of an edge. They almost cast him as the final villain in Gale of Darkness.

Same here,I i do not even know why,but when i started up HG/SS for the first time,i just got too good vibes from his model,Plus,i kinda hope that GF will possibly give other past protagonists cameos in new games,Such as Red and Blue in well..Alot of the games,lmao.
I really got the idea of "The old rivals and protagonists showing up" after i played US/UM,Afterall,they can't get always all the spotlight...
Especially for Ethan/Kris/Lyra,They became champion in 2 regions,Defeated team rocket (again) And even Beat Red himself on to of M.Silver.
Meanwhile,for Silver,i guess he is still kinda major in his own style,From being the Rival of the Gold/Silver/HG/SS games to being Giovanni's son. He should get another cameo too.

Green/Leaf are supposed to be named Blue. That's why she wears blue and her name being Blue, as well as Red being Red and prof Oak's grandson being the real Green, are important plot points in the manga.
ugh i’ve been begging for a kris figure for so long. kotobukiya has an amazing line of them and they skipped over her. they did do figures of all the other protags mentioned here.

Bandai has shown interest in making a Scale World figure of her! She was listed in a recent survey from them.

On the subject of the whole Leaf/Green thing, really raises the question of why they didn’t just call the protagonist Green to begin with. I mean, you already had Red and Blue and the game pair she appeared in had Leaf Green with the male protagonist being Red. Yet by some Herculean leap in logic, they somehow choose to call her Leaf. They had all the right pieces for the puzzle lined up perfectly for them and yet somehow ended up with a completely different picture
Maybe it's due to rival's name in Japan? In English, Gen 1's Rival is known as Blue. But in Japan, he is known as Green. So maybe to avoid confusion, they just named the female player character of Firered/LeafGreen Leaf, since I think she is also named Leaf in Japan, so they could have the same name in both Japan and English.
Plus in the manga the female character is named Blue in Japan, while in English she is named Green. So yeah, it gets confusing.
@@BigFearedBalloon yup, this is how I understand it too. Since her debut is in FRLG and there's no blue game, they ended up calling her Leaf (or in other cases Fuguri, for ri-FU GURI-n). Hearing or reading the western adaptation is confusing to me as is the opposite for western fans lol
As a manga reader, seeing Green in LGPE confused and excited me at the same time. Her appearance was so brief and so random? There are so many counterparts for Green that it's confusing. I wish they had stayed with the name Leaf for the games so I can safely refer to Green as the one from Adventures. Honestly Leaf was done so dirty, being forgotten for so long, having a whole new counterpart in LGPE (and I don't get why...?), and then appearing again in Masters as though nothing had happened and the creators just suddenly remembered she existed. Not to mention that she and Kris are missing from Gotcha. I can't believe two protagonists didn't make it in when even Emmet and Ingo did.
Green and leaf both are the most closest in personality in any other mediea, mischievous and playful girls. I don't know if they will keep this personality in evolution.

9:31 How? The Aether family (especially Lusamine) are clearly based on how they were in the Ultra games. Also Rainbow Rocket Giovanni is literally in the game, is confirmed to be after RR episode, and is about to open a new main story which interestingly coincides with him disappearing from GO. If anything, I'd say the non Ultra games are the ones being retconed, at least until Lusamine appears in the villain story.
All of these characters are much more memorable to me thanks to the manga, which gave all of them personality, and made them, well, characters.

About Green in the manga. Yes, she is 20 years old, but this was stated in the ORAS series, which takes place several years after the Red & Blue series. When she was introduced, she was about the same age as Red

On the Gloria thing, it seems more like Victor conquered the Gym Challenge (Victor’s paired with Scorbunny in promo art of him facing Milo while Gloria’s confirmed to own Inteleon in Masters, meaning Hop takes cues from GOTCHA and has the Grookey line) and Gloria was the one to haul ass during the Darkest Day do-over. Pair this with Twilight Wings insinuating that both Victor and Gloria co-existing canonically, and this seems pretty water-tight. Then again, I didn’t look into Sygna Suit Leon’s event in Masters for contradicting info yet.
Gotta love how the Sun and Moon protagonists have never shown up even once in the anime

What if Archie and Maxie came to an understanding of each other? (Took Hoopa to pull them into the Distortion World -> ORAS Arc but it worked.)
What if "Rosa" was a member of Team Plasma (Loyalist Fraction)?
Each of these what ifs comes with a redesign. Some are tweaks, Archie in a Knight's Armor imbued with Reflect and Lightscreen (How?) is still Archie.
But Whitley, boy she's different, even after she "leaves" Team Plasma Whitley is very different as she actually believes in N's ideals.
7:09 Lucas is a very non-appealing protagonist it seems. A friend of mine never plays female characters (not just in Pokémon but in general) - albeit she is female herself - but in Diamond/Pearl she actually quickly restarted and chose Dawn over Lucas due to his "appallingly ugly hat". She also doesn't seem to be alone with that stance either.
I honestly don't like Lucas not only because I like Dawn way more cause of the anime but also because I absolutely despise his hat. They're letting us customize in BDSP but I'm on the fence for Lucas.

Honestly, one of the reasons I enjoy Masters so much is because of the attention being given to the different protags and bringing back old ones (I lost it when I first drew Kris as Crystal is my fav game in the series and I just love the cute nerdy personality they gave her). It's fun trying to figure out who was the mc and who was the rival while also getting to see them fleshed out more.
Kris, Leaf, and Hilda are my favorites

I think it could have been interesting if they had in black 2 and white 2 a battle with the people from the first games via memory link. It could give them the team you beat black and white with at a set level of 70 or so
Obviously it wouldn't be possible with the ds software(and would still be hard to pull off today), but it'd be absolutely nuts that if when you fought them, they used the same tactics that you did during your B/W playthru. In my case I'd probably get to see how much of a dumbass I was 6+ years ago.

I have a soft spot for Kris and Leaf because of nostalgia. They were the first two female protagonists that I played, and I love their designs to boot. I wish they'd had the chance to be actual characters in the game instead of just a player option, like the rivals in RBE onwards. It's a shame that they decided to not put Kris in HGSS, all because she was Crystal-exclusive and not in the original GC (or so I've heard seems to be the reason). I like Lyra, but man... I want my baby Kris. I also wish Leaf got an appearance in Gen 7 like Red and Blue! Ugh. So many unfulfilled wishes. Pokemon Masters is cool but it's a gacha, and I think it just doesn't do them enough justice. Wish there was a place for all the protagonists in the games.

UGH I was so MAD when Kris was replaced. Kris had a special place in my heart as she represented Pokemon Crystal, my first Pokemon game that I actually owned. (And I got the imported Japanese version as a gift, long before the US version came out.) I felt so special in my circle of friends getting to play Kris first like that (and she was cute too). It's hard to appreciate Lyra or her design when she stole the spotlight so unceremoniously.
Me too. Lyra is okay and I do adore the fan arts of her, but man I miss my girl kris and I hope we get a another johoto remake way in the future and see kris one last time.

Dawn outshined all the other characters and I'm so salty about it. She gets so many anime reappearances after leaving the main cast compared to the other characters. I just want to see May again since Misty has had a relatively recent appearance.
I think the reason why Brandon, Lukas, and Kalos are not in the anime is they wanted Ash to be all of them. Red, Brandon, Kalos, and the other missing playable characters are all Ash.

I am just annoyed that, as of now, it seems like Galar is not going to get legit seasons in the anime dedicated to it. The Journeys stuff is cool and all but it is just Ash and Go travelling different regions and doing that world ranking thing. And they already did the Chief Rose and Eternatus story without practically any of the characters. I was hoping for Ash travelling Galar with Hop and Marnie battling the gym leaders on his way to Leon while Bede becomes a Kanto Gary type rival.
Silver was a character that I’ve always wanted to see back. Not a protagonist but I’d love to see him in a newer game with his chad feralagatr

I'm pretty sure Leaf and Green are supposed to be the same, considering they not only were inspired by the same character, but they look almost identical, especially their hairstyle. Not only that, but Leaf was just a fan-made name, so technically, that's not what she is called, while Green was canon since Let's GO, and considering the color theme of Kanto and the other two characters Red and Blue are also named after colors, Green just makes the most sense.
I don't know why Masters called her Leaf. It would eleviate so much confusion. Plus, "Leaf" hasn't made an appearance in over a decade so they could've just called her Green and literally no one would care.

@@CEDL0W I think the reason they called her Leaf was simple due to the games. She's not the protagonist of Green, she's the protagonist of *Leaf* Green. I'm guessing if they changed Red as the protagonist, the new one's name would be Fire which is somehow an even dumber name than a freakin colour. Now this isn't exactly a good reason, but a reason nonetheless.
I also believed they were supposed to be the same until Masters brought back Leaf, with none of LGPE Green's personality whatsoever.
That’s the same for almost every anime-game counterparts, they are supposed to be the same person. Pokémon’s lore isn’t deep or well done so when new games were released the anime just took the protagonist and used their characters design with a new name for them as nobody knew it. That’s it. They’re not two separate entities
7:28 N also mentions in the anime that SOMEBODY helped him so we can confirm either Hilbert or Hilda exist in some form since the anime just said “yeah, BW1 happened.” Also surprised you didn’t say that Hilda taking on the role of the Battle Subway partner basically spent the entire game there and she gets to bond with N in events like Hilbert.
