    Great to have this covered on 'normal telly' - I've been glued to the screen for weeks watching this, so many twists and turns; everyone who completed the stage over the Stelvio Pass is an absolute hero, but Tao, Jai Hindley, Joao Almeida and Wilco Keldermann all made it a race to remember

    The Giro is not second to the Tour in difficulty. Its HARDER.

    • @terry.hudson
      @terry.hudson Před 3 lety +9

      Yeah that's a common misconception, although you could argue that the main one to win is le tour, therefore the "best" riders race that and not the giro.
      Giro is the cyclists favourite

      Hardness isn't measured at how high the mountains are or how fast the cross-winds. It's to do with how tough the competition is and how fierce the racing is, and there the Tour still comes up trumps

    Yes what a story, one which was barely covered until he actually won. Even the BBC barely covered his stage win successes. When Froome confirmed he was leaving, the media was delighted as they were able to ride about the death of British cycling. Pathetic.

    Interesting to reflect that it was Tony Blair's administration that focused money on three sports back around 2000: rowing, sailing and cycling. This led to success for all three in the 2008 Olympics. Brailsford used this impetus to set up Team Sky with Murdoch's money, more recently morphing into Ineos. It was Rohan Dennis's hard work that gave Geoghan Hart a shot at the title on Sunday. So during the celebrations, spare a thought not only for Dennis, but for the other unlikely, much hated these days, facilitator, Tony Blair.

    What a beautifully diverse team you have in your studio! That white lady needs to simmer down a bit though - first she interrupts 4:17 the Indian (I hope I got it right) gentleman clearly trying to use her white privilege there, and then she makes some lowkey remarks about skipping school to the dark skinned gentleman with urban haircut. I think she needs to redo her racial sensitivity training, everyone agrees?

    He's good but you can't forget that 3 teams had to leave the tour because of corona, so it isn't as big as a normal grand tour, but still an achievement. Also I would say Tom pidcock is the more exciting British rider of the future

    • @ellismccoy
      @ellismccoy Před 3 lety +10

      It's a massive achievement! Yes favourites had to drop out but that's part and parcel of a 3 week tour. Anything can happen and you have to be the strongest rider, but also the rider that can make it to the finish and win.

      @epincion Před 3 lety

      Pidcock a more exciting prospect? The jury is out on that one. We will see if he can translate his junior performance to the big leagues.

      Jumbo-Visma, Mitchelton-Scott, who was the third team?
      Yates was already out of the running.
      Steven Kruijswijk tested positive for CV19. The team could have continued but decided to leave.
      Almost every grand tour has favourites that fall out of the running due to things outside of their control.
      With the lack of racing this year, I'd say the Giro this year was bigger for both the fans and the riders.

      @@epincion I would say pidcock is the more impressive rider. He proved his time trial ability in the junior champs where he won. He proved his stage racing ability in the baby giro which he won. He came 2nd this year in the world cyclo-cross champs beating van aert and second only to van der poel. In fact I would say he's going to be one of the best cyclists in the world along with bernal, pogacer and evenepoel
