- As seen with the Oscar-winning film "The Darkest Hour", makeup and prosthetics enable actors to fully look the part of the role they're playing. Makeup casters use a process called lifecasting. They'll cover the actor in "goop" to create an exact replica, with which they use to build prosthetics to wear. A lot of movies rely on CGI to bring movies to life, but when it can be done, prosthetics truly do enhance the realism of a film.

I can watch Darkest hour over and over and not once did i feel or see Gary Oldman. It was perfectly done and amazingly acted!
The issue is that Auggie didn’t look the part in wonder and the description in the book is completely different than what he looks like in the movie

I watched this video honestly only hoping to see a glimpse of Daveed Diggs in Wonder
that devil image from the exorcist on his shirt has always been one of the few things in a 'scary' movie that truly disturbed me as a kid ! but even years ago when i first saw it i knew if it could stir that kind of reaction that meant it was a really good movie
I watched this to help figure out what I have to know before getting my dream job as a sfx makeup artist for movies and stuff. I’m not even out of high school yet and I’m already learning as much as I can online and have a job to buy materials to practice with :)

Wearing prosthetics can be so irritating at sometimes but also they look so awesome I haven’t done a full face life cast but I have done a full face of latex other products and home made prosthetics

These guys also helped come up with prosthetics for people who lost or were born without certain body parts (ears, noses, etc.). It's neat how Hollywood art led to helping people in real life.

I'm frustrated that they couldn't have hired an actor with facial differences to play Auggie. There are plenty of young people out there that would have been ecstatic to receive the role. But even in a progressive film like this there are ableist undertones. Live casting is still super cool though. Great video INSIDER!

Take My Cinnamon Rolls I know multiple talented children with facial differences. In my home town there is a summer camp for kids with facial differences. There is a theater program and I have been blown away by their talent. Certainly not Hollywood actors because most directors wouldn't even allow them to audition anyways sadly. I just think it was a missed opportunity to include disabled people in a big movie.

But the acting needed to be really good for the movie to be good. I think that why they went with Jacob Tremblay. He’s one a Critics choice award for his work in Room and has appeared in many critically acclaimed films

It's kinda funny that you used Planet of the Apes as your CGI reference, since that movie looks a lot more realistic than the stiff prosthetic make-up the early Planet of the Apes films used.
