Anthony where is the sorry for party rocking review
Unironically a better album than multiple he's done classic reviews on
In 2011 where it belongs
@@docwombat I know this comment is ironic but I actually listen to party rock anthem more than 90% of the albums on his loved list and his classics list
Been waiting for this my whole life :'(
Lmfao. But party rock might very well be the best modern banger ever. That song was fucking insane! WOW. IM PUMPED THINKING ANOUT IT RIGHT NOW. That should be the song kids are listening to now. Not addicts like juice or gangsters like pop smoke
Saying "rap isn't music because my daddy went to music school" is not a legit reason to give this 4/10 melon.

Man, malignent tumors really do suck.

@JoBro how? Like, how?
@@Windows98. because music is subjective and y'all know this is just his opinion, right?

This review was over 20 years late.
I’m just glad that he finally got around to it. Hopefully one day he does GZA’s Liquid Swords.
Still waiting for him to review Mozart’s record smh, man is centuries late
@@_EmperorPenguin i might be wrong but i guess there were quite a few reviews about that Mozart dude, unlike about The Roots material.
@@WarningBFG-isHiring why? It's still an amazing masterpiece whether he does it or not...
the WLR review is also gonna be tbat
Malik B is so underappreciated. On this album and illadelph halflife he held his own with Black Thought every verse he had. Not a lot of people could even argue that they could do something like that, let alone prove it. R.I.P
Most lyrical duo ever.
"the return to innocence lost" is probably the most hauntingly disturbing and beautiful songs of all time
I just listened today and the song definitely was the one I remembered off the album
Definitely
Why is it only on the deluxe and not the regular album on apple music? Is it a bonus track?
@@JohnDoe-hq1ty Yea it is a bonus track, its on the CD
The Roots have never missed and Black Thought is top 5. Y’all agree?
All facts
Hmm... might have to disagree. Maybe?
Never really got into "then you shoot your cousin", felt like a miss to me (or at least under done).
But Undun, phrenology and things fall apart are among my top 20 all time hip hop albums... and yes, black thought is top 5
@@daynebullion3231 wow I really love that album. I guess it’s usually the least favorite of a lot of people tho so I respect the take
Their latest one was pretty lame
Yes! Fantano recommended them a few years ago in a Q& A livestream and I fell in love. Glad he does these classics reviews because hopefully younger fans will listen back, like I did.
Mos and BlackThoughts back and forth on Double Trouble is a legendary collab
All time great song
no joke here this album is just great
the best ever
@somedudeontheinternet 1 none of their albums come close. This is The Roots at the peak of their game.
Undun is my personal favourite, though I am biased as it is my first Roots album
this ones def my fav :)
Who said it was a joke?
"You Got Me", is one of the best Hip-Hop songs ever made.
This album is definitely a slow burner, it took me a while to feel like it is a perfect album... but when you grab some good headphones, admire the beats, listen to Black Thoughts lyrics, and the hooks, you realize that this album was so ahead of its time and so relevant at the same time.
“Ain’t saying nothing new” has always been my favorite track on this album. I remember growing up near Philadelphia and listening to this album and loving the Philly shoutouts.
Black Thought is one of the Greatest Rappers of All Time....right up there with DOOM and Nas imo..
No doubt
Too soon
RIP :(
@@NotesFromTheOwlBox how? It's paying respect
Nas ain’t up there, too many terrible albums
That fade loop in "Step Into the Realm" was also paying homage to people that made beats by using double tape decks. You had to play the section you wanted to record in one deck, rewind it back to the same section and then keep recording your loop in the other tape deck. You had to have great timing to make the loop sound perfect. This usually required releasing the pause button on the recording deck at the same time you needed to capture the segment you wanted to record. This process was repeated until your track was long enough. The recorded track might have a fade or distortion in between loops sometimes.
one my favorite roots tracks
i'm calling it! Mario Kart DS OST is a classic review

I wasn’t expecting things fall apart on a classics review but it is certainly is a pleasant surprise
Is it a banger? Who made it? Was it Uzi, Travis, or Carti?
@Daddy of Drake idk its kinda wack, cant bump this in the accord with the slimes, ya know what I mean cuh
weird, didn't know playboi carti changed his name to "The Roots."
That's what the song m3tamorphosis was actually about

Wlr horrible. You know it’s bad when no one even says positive things about it and just memes it

Feels bad man, you already know half his fan base aren't gonna care about Classics week since WLR review ain't out
They're panicking because they dont know if they can like WLR yet or not
This album changed my relationship with hip hop. Classic.
Anthony, you get it. I went to Roots' "Things Fall Apart Anniversary" show and people were acting and reacting to the music like the crowd at a Vince Staples concert. They've never stopped being relevant. I was a part of the rap is crap crowd in high school and then I got switched on to Undun (thanks to that incredible cover art) and it totally changed my world.
The Roots. Whole damn catalogue. Forever.
Weird flex that "If them the roots, me the stem boi" but ok.
a melon can't sprout without roots
@@Aliens2Exist lmao, true that😂
Firstly, you introduced me to the Roots Anthony because you recommended them on a livestream Q&A a few years ago so I listened. Thank you for that because they are incredible. I intend to share this review with my friends and family and hope they too, get into this incredible group.
Secondly, welcome back.
Crossing my fingers for Songs In The Key Of Life
That is a top 10 album of all time in any genre imo, that and innervisions are two of the best soul albums
i doubt it, he said wants to focus on more recent classics than albums that have been in all time lists and talked about so much in the last decades
I’m pretty sure he already announced which ones are gonna be reviewed for the week somewhere

Double Trouble with Mos Def slaps so hard. Great concept song with 2 amazing lyricists.
I like that in classics week he not always reviews the obvious choices. Of course I enjoy when he talks about albums that we all know but IMO it's better when he talks about most forgotten albums because I think the best part about this is discover new things.
Because of that, I also would really love to see Anthony reviewing more classics from non-anglophone artists. I mean, sometimes he talks about music from Hispanoamérica and other places outside USA & UK and it's great because lot of us discover new music and I would love to see that with classics from Hispanoamérica, Asia, Europe, etc. The only ones I remember were Phaedra (instrumental), Trans Europe-Express and Dsicovery (both of them with lyrics in english).
If he could review an early 70’s Brazilian record I would die
I think this is going to be my favourite classics week of all time; literally every artist Fantano will be reviewing is among my favourite artists ever. I'm so damn excited for the M.I.A. video!
Melon should do a “5 Years Later” video on Anderson .Paak’s Malibu. It’s 5 years old this month and was an instant classic.
That album helped me get through a dark time the year it came out, without a doubt.
Hahaha
Waiting for Heaven or Las Vegas tomorrow Melon, don’t fail me
Holy fuck yes
tf r the cocteau twins saying???
It’s not happening he posted on his twitter the artists he is reviewing and the Twins are not one of em.
that will come out as soon as we figure out wtf the cocteau twins are saying
@Funk Boii nahhh
Love the reviews where I can hear almost each song in my head
interesting, but have you thought about a Liquid Swords classic review?
Now I get it, you were saving the Whole Lotta Red review for classics week
Finally, an original one
Still laughed at the other ones tho
I just listened to this for the first time and it's without doubt one of the greatest albums I've heard
Hope you had some good time off lad, great to have you back. Always love classics week, looking forward to the NIN review. Also The Roots are hella underappreciated nowadays
It'd be cool to get one of these a month or something. Not on Patreon myself so it might be a thing there, idk. But it's really nice hearing you speak on classics throughout time, would love to have more of it outside of the first week of the year 👍
I can't wait for after list week is over and he puts whole lotta red in a YUNO review video.
Cap he knows WLR review will get a lot of views
I love The Return to Innocence Lost, Ursula Rucker delivers one of the best poems I have ever listened, the keys in this song and the acoustic guitar give the song a beatiful, dreamy instrumental that contrasts heavy w/ the poem, but not w/ Ursula's tone in the song, that seems to follow the instrumental too, which I find gives the song even another layer and really asks u to be focused on the poem itself, its perfect, really beatiful and at the same time extremely heavy.
You should do a Roots discography ranked, that's always interesting to hear because they have a lot of gems and classics.
Sweet Classics Week. I can't wait for your review of Die Lit!
"Double Trouble" is still one of my personal favorite hip hop tracks of all the time. The lyrics. The teamwork. The beat. The funk.
Jesus.
Can you do some screamo/death metal reviews for classic week? I am struggling with how you define what the genre of death core or death metal would be rated between each-other? (Suicide Silence, Cannibal Corpse, earily BMTH)
I second this wholeheartedly. Would love to see a Tomb of the Mutilated review.
I think he did one and it was for Converge.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for paying homage to this album, this was top 10 of the 90s
I actually checked out this album because Fantano referenced it in his video about depressing albums (although I'm assuming he was mostly referring to the heartbreaking Return to Innocence Lost). Glad to see him review it for classic week.
RIP MALIK B 🖤🖤🖤

CLASSICS WEEK HERE WE GO
Please do a classic review of Prince “Sign O’ The Times”.
I think he already decided wich albums he would review, the next being m.i.a's debut I believe
SOTT or 1999.
He already reviewed Purple Rain he isn’t going to review Prince twice
He should do grace by jeff buckley, or maybe appetite by Guns N'Roses
He should do Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder. It's been on his shelf in many years but didn't review it. >:(
Nice to hear you positively reviewing something I like for once
THANKS FOR REVIEWING ONE OF MY FAVORITE RECORDS OF ALL TIME THANK YOU
Watching this and thinking about how lil xan said that fantano doesn’t really know anything about rap and should stick to classic rock LOL
The Spark sounds like it hasn’t aged a day, it’s just some super high quality music
Ladies and gentleman we are floating in space really deserves a classic review easily one of the most inventive and sonically diverse rock albums of all time. the spiritualized catalog really deserves more praise as a whole as well
What a great way to kick off the week! Such a great album
Carti is anticipating Melons review with a whole lotta dread.
I think he will give it 7 or 8
One of the best albums of all time.
This, "Prince Among Thieves" and "Soundbombing II" were in heavy rotation for me in 1999. They went from being a part of my CD collection to a part of my mp3/flac collection.
Welcome back anthony!!
hi fantano, i don't know if my mom will let us date, she saw our messages and got really angry, but we can be friends if you want.

I Love Classics Week, thankyou, keep killing it...

Huh I didn't know Jimmy Fallon's house band released albums, good for them!
I hope this is sarcasm 😭
welcome back fantano, love this album!
Just a quick thank you, for keeping your glasses so clean.
I'd love to see a Prodigy classic review. If not 'The Fat of the Land' maybe 'Music for the Jilted Generation' which is just as worthy in my opinion.
dang, no love for experience? it's my personal favourite of theirs but i can still see why people don't like it as much, it's dated as hell but it's still a ton of fun
@@Squiddit Nah that album is amazing too, the beats are insane the entire thing. I'd rate it maybe a 9.5/10 whereas the other two are easy 10/10's.
My personal favourite is actually Invaders Must Die. It's the album that introduced me to The Prodigy, every single song on there goes hard as hell (like pretty much every Prodigy album). I can see why people wouldn't consider it a classic though, still love it nonetheless.
Classic week will be interesting.
I really think this is one of the most well written reviews you've ever made
One of my favorite albums! Thank you for the review :)
Hmmm 🤔 that’s a really weird way to spell “Playboi Carti - Whole Lotta Red” melon
the only thing falling apart is our patience for the whole lotta red review, anthony.
Return to Innocence Lost is still to this day one of the most heartrending poems I've ever heard.
Anthony dropped a Cool Kids shoutout in a Roots review? God I loved this video
Off topic, but important: Dr.Dre just had a brain aneurysm, most likely caused by the huge stresses he is going through with his wife situation and the beef between Eminem and Snoop which is splitting hswi camp and destroying his life's work.
