Welcome to the Foxhole! 🦊🤘 The happiest place you can find in rock/metal. BABYMETAL is entirely unique in what they do because they are a Metal Sing and Dance unit, not a traditional band. They are addictive to listen to and watch because apart from having great songs and amazing live shows, they are also very creative since all their songs sound different from each other, which is a real treat. The group was formed in 2010 around Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno, who were 12, 11 and 11 respectively at the time. Yui left in 2018 and was recently replaced by Momoko Okazaki. The Kami band accompanies them for live shows and used to be dressed in these white robes and face paint to depict Japanese spirits, but in later years have changed costumes a couple of times.

All you can do is smile and be happy when you watch a BabyMetal video...whoever thought of putting 3 idols together with a metal band is a genius. I am seeing them this September. They are young women now in their 20's. I kinda wish I knew about them when they were in their early teens just to compare how much they matured. The lead singer is actually an incredible vocalist.

Great first reaction! 🤘🦊🤘Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance!!! BABYMETAL started back in 2010 when the 3 girls were 11-12 years old, and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. 🤘🦊🤘

Welcome & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 This is a compilation from several shows including one in 2016 at Wembley Arena, London. BABYMETAL is the best phenomenon in music I have ever experienced in my 67-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL
Heaviest song about playing hide and seek... Yes, "Catch me if you can" is about playing hide and seek or tag... BUT... with an "oni", a sort of Japanese ogre, which makes it more... interesting. 😁 This is definitely on their heavier side instrumentally but it also has one of their cutest choreos (and vocals), including my personal favorite movement: the infamous "Moa slide" hehe...
This was my very first BABYMETAL song, so it's very special to me. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
    BABYMETAL are:
    - Suzuka Nakamoto as SU-METAL (lead singer).
    - Moa Kikuchi as MOAMETAL (backup vocals and dance).
    - Yui Mizuno as YUIMETAL (backup vocals and dance). Former member. She left officially in 2018 after not performing since October 2017 due to health issues. She's in all the shows compiled in this video, though. The three of them are the OG members since their origins in 2010.
    And, since April 2023:
    - Momoko Okazaki as MOMOMETAL (backup vocals and dance).
You will have a ton of info but it's important you know that they are VERY diverse musically as they like to mix many different genres with any metal sub-genre. No two songs sound alike (well, probably two of them but it was intended and another story). And also the fact they are way better live (although some of their MV are worth watching).
So, here goes my usual recommendation: always expect the unexpected and prepare to be surprised. 😁
At this point you have two options: one is keep watching earlier stuff and go forward chronologically. The other is to jump to something new. So here:
Earlier stuff, from Legend 1997 (performed in December 2013): "Headbanger" (Live at Legend 1997): czcams.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/video.html
Recent work, released just this year: "Mirror Mirror" (official music video): czcams.com/video/7uOoH2PTYl0/video.html
    Until next time!

You have to see the version of headbanger called MOA BANGER as half way through The lead singe r Sue Metal does the most amazing act of love and sharing I have ever seen major star performer do. As the two backing singer dancer are on their knees bowing to Sue Metal along with the entire crowd hands up and down bowing to Queen SUR MOA stands up and approaches Sue and she hands her the microphone making her the object of every bodies admiration and get of her knees to bow to the new Queen Moa It touched me deeply and MOA finished the song with a voice that could easily take over the part of lead singer if that ever become necessary. Moa had that look that says YES I am finally the girl in the spotlight in front of the many thousands of fans. I still get emotional just thinking about it. I watch it many times since then. Thank you for discovering Babymetal and having such a cool reaction.

Hey Lieben Toten in South Africa. I am Norm A 70 year old rock and part time Metal fan in British Columbia, Canadas western most Province. Next stop JAPAN. The first time I saw and heard Babymetal my reaction was so typical of so many others. WTF is this I am seeing and hearing? I had never seen such a collaboration of sweet little Japanese anime girls sing and dancing (bouncing) with such angelic voices and a killer metal band backing them. It is something that many comments have stated that this is not supposed to work but boy does it work and wonderfully. I could not get enough of that amazing sound and the cutest girls anywhere with so much activity and life as so many other have stated. I search for as many of their videos as possible and became an instant and major fan. They have never been to Vancouver but some day if they come here I am going to try hard to be down here to see the.

Babymetal is unlike any other band in the world, being a blend of metal and J-pop. They are so unique, they created an entire new genre to describe what they do, which is known as "kawaii metal" (cute metal). They are legendary for their spectacular live performances, which you got a taste of in this video, and they have won numerous awards for their live shows, and toured all around the world. Since their founding in 2010, they have released four studio albums and 12 live albums, done numerous world tours (including currently), and collaborated with some of the biggest names in metal.

Ah Mate the Amazing Phenomenon they were, & continue to be! They are touring now so check them out if you can! Epic shows that will have you cheering & moshing! The Majesty, Chemistry, Command of their fans (called The One & Japanese fans call themselves Mates). The original founding lineup were like most of the other great bands: The First, Best version! A damned bloody shame Yuimetal (usually on the stage left side) had to retire way back on Oct. 08, 2019, due to an undisclosed injury//injuries, or illness. She is fine now supposedly, & keeps in contact with her active former friends & band mates Sumetal,
(Lead Singer, Vocalist) & Moametal (Scream, Sing & Dance). Currently the new replacement in Yuimetal's former stage position is Momoko Okazaki, aka Momometal. She is doing a Great job taking over Yui's Mantle.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey 🦊🤘
Is nice to see more southafricans and people all over the world reacting to this amazing group. You already got some nice comments introducing BM. My suggestion to keep enjoying this journey is to avoid this type of live compilation and go for original clips safe to react as much as you can, I'm gonna leave in my next suggestion where to get them.
Since you're asking for more info about them, you can find a video called "A BabyMetal Guide" by CrypticMisery, but first watch some songs like "Babymetal Death" to avoid some big factor surprise, just remember we're NotACult 💀👀
    Next suggestion:
    - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997 held in 2013, Gans Tomas got this clip under Head Bangya title.
    See you next time 🦊🤘🔥

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters, there are some exceptions:
      - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast.
      czcams.com/video/LNFiDWJh2FA/video.html
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo.
      czcams.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/video.html
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014.
      czcams.com/video/dU38CYkpBvI/video.html
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997.
      czcams.com/video/nwsinmxTxbo/video.html
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one.
      czcams.com/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/video.html
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      czcams.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/video.html
      - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs.
      czcams.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/video.html
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday).
      czcams.com/video/BSjv9OYtWZ0/video.html
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live.
      czcams.com/video/Yj-UQIlqsIQ/video.html
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is.
      czcams.com/video/ESzY9dL613Q/video.html
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal.
      czcams.com/video/1dT1ywYR5So/video.html
      - "Iine!" again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014.
      czcams.com/video/5sCvYVNeD0w/video.html
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts.
      czcams.com/video/M8FKumvh-w8/video.html
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, kitsune6001 got this with a short interview intro.
      czcams.com/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/video.html
Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR)
      - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      czcams.com/video/Hg0Rylcg8F0/video.html
This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list.

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 This is the best song about playing a game like a mix of hide & seek blind man's bluff and tag that I know of ... but they are playing it with an Oni (a sort of Japanese ogre👹).
The growls are on backing track - that was the Oni asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da ya" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance.🏃‍♀🏃‍♀🏃‍♀👹
Once in a while the Kami Band get their chance to have some fun in the spotlight with an instrumental intro like this before the girls come on for the song itself.
This particular compilation video has clips from different concerts spanning several years, the audio was taken from the Wembley Arena concert in 2016 (at least some of it anyway).
They are very confusing when you first come across them - because they are like nothing you will have seen or heard before, they are both original and unique.
They have about 60 songs now, each one different to the last, they have songs in virtually every metal genre but will also mix and blend so many other styles and genres with the metal. Some songs are good hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between.
They don't copy anybody or follow the same format as nearly every other band (for a start they have brought choreographed dance to metal - but not dance as you may know it from pop acts).
Pick any song from them for another reaction (ideally a live performance, that is where they are always at their best - I see some great suggestions and links in the comments already) and prepare to be surprised (in the best possible way) all over again.

Glad you enjoyed this. It is a great representation of the concept behind Babymetal. Including the consistency from performance to performance. Most songs though are much more lead vocal centered and Su-metal delivers. Su- was singing here mostly with her kawaii (cute) voice. Her voice is most showcased in the handful of Su-metal Solo songs, but she also matches the vocal style to the song or the genre being mixed in. Yui and Moa are not left out and they had songs without Su- as Black Babymetal.

That was fun to watch. You had a grin on your face the entire time lol
You can't really go wrong with Babymetal songs. They're all pretty good, and they're all quite different from each other. The best advice I can give you is that it is pretty much always best to watch them live, as you can tell, they are amazing live. That is their specialty. They do have some songs that are worth checking out the mv for as well such as Karate, and Megitsune, but, again, I would also recommend watching those live too.
So for the most part Babymetal consists of 3 girls. In the earlier years (up to the end of 2017), you had Su-Metal, Yuimetal, and Moametal. Su is the main singer with the hand mic. Her hair is always done up in a ponytail when on stage. Yui and Moa will both have their hair done up in pigtails. Yui is the girl who has the massive, chubby cheeks which she is very proud of, and Moa is the girl that has the huge dimples when she smiles. In case you need help with the pronunciation of their names, Su-Metal is pronounced SueMetal, Yuimetal is YouweeMetal, and Moametal is MoewahMetal. Sadly, as I mentioned Yui had to leave the group due to health reasons. For a short period it was just Moa and Su performing, but they realized the magic just wasn't as powerful with just the two of them. They needed a third member to complete the group, so they enlisted with they called the Avengers. These Avengers were 3 girls that took turns performing with Su and Moa in dance only. They never sang with Babymetal. Eventually (beginning of April of this year), Babymetal announced they had finally found a new official member who would do both sing AND dance. That member was one of the Avengers, Momometal. I don't need to really tell you how to tell the difference between Momo and Moa as they look quite different from one another. But if you DO have some trouble, Momo is the taller one. She'll also have pigtails now. That reminds me. You'll know you're watching an Avenger vs Moa or Yui because of the hair style. That's the easiest way to tell. Their outfit is also slightly different, but it is SUPER subtle and you probably wont really see much difference if any at all. One thing I can tell you that's different that is easiest to spot is that Moa's outfit has a silver lining along the bottom of her skirt. The Avenger's outfit does not. In that regard, theirs is more similar to Su's. However theirs is also different from Su's as well. Anyhow, easiest way to tell the difference between an Avenger and Moa is from their hair as I said. Moa and Yui always have pigtails. The Avengers will have their hair down, but will have little buns where they WOULD have had pigtails.
So that's a description on the girls and how to tell them apart. Hopefully that helps some. Also hope you enjoy your journey through the Babymetal universe!

Nice reaction. I don't know why but I love it. That's Babymetal magic. The Kamiband are the spirits of the gods of metal instruments. that's why they dress this way. Babymetal is full of surprises. You just never know where they're going to go musically. Back when Babymetal started out in 2010 Metal was a fading genre music in Japan. To the point the world mostly stopped looking there for metal music. Jpop was everything there. How far had it faded? They went from having whole floors just for metal in the music stores to a shelf next to the discount rack. Yup way down. Then Babymetal went viral with the song Give Me Chocolate and eyes turned back to Japan and asked what on earth is going on there. Babymetal became the vanguard of a wave of Japanese bands storming out into the world. For over a decade now Babymetal has been one of the best live performances you could see. The energy, The crowd participation, The you never know for sure what stage theatrics they're going to do, Their commanding stage presence, The dancing, The Kamiband, Yui Moa and Now Momoko and Su's amazing voice. Moa has said when Su sings it's like an angel came down. Moa would know being an angel herself. After watching Catch Me if You Can and only a few other songs I'm sure your thinking is she really that good. Simply put Yes. She's moved adults to tears. Has driven away the depression in people's lives. And Babymetal was built around her for a reason. Some folks can go a lifetime wondering why they were born. IMO, I doubt Su ever asked that question. A natural born singer and performer. I don't think she would have guessed that she would be the lead singer of one of the biggest metal bands from Japan ever. But the world is a funny place and as they say sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. If they made a movie about Babymetal and really hope they do someday. Many would think it is a work of fiction. That they couldn't have done all the things they've done especially at the young ages they did them at. Today Su is 25 and Moa will be 24 on July 4th. Momoko just turned 20. Yui will turn 24 this month. She may no longer be physically with Babymetal but as Su and Moa have said she is like family to them and will always be a part of them. Since the they think of the fans as part of the band. That means Yui remains part of us too. How much do Babymetal think the fans are part of the band? At the end of their shows Su will shout "WE ARE" and back then Yui and Moa and Now Moa and Momoko will lead the audience in "Babymetal". "WE ARE BABYMETAL". They have made it known that they're not talking about themselves but about everyone there. Because without the fans they wouldn't be there. They were signed by the biggest entertainment agencies in Japan in 2010. Their first album came out 4 years later. That's how long it took for them to gain a fan base and convince the Amuse! to financially back them with album money. and it wasn't much. But after that Babymetal exploded on to the world and changed everything for themselves. Legendary to the core. Living legends are what they are now. And starting with this new tour are writing a new chapter into their history books. Welcome to the foxhole it's deep and full of surprises.

Thank you for your wonderful comment. Rock was born in America, raised in England, and perfected in Japan! It is said that. Rock music is said to be in decline worldwide, but there are still many great rock groups in Japan. For example, BABYMETAL has resumed activities and is touring the world. Band Maid has sold out all of their world tours. In addition, Love Bites and Nemophila are also great bands. One OK Rock is also a great group. There are many others. Metal isn't big in Japan. Rock is pretty big. There are a lot of great metal groups in Japan but only Babymetal is popular. It's because of the 3 girls and their off the charts charisma.
Babymetal is based on Japanese Idol music which is it's own thing. And obviously mixed with metal. I don't know any actual Idol Groups but I am a huge fan of a lot of things based on Idols. Babymetal, Atarashii Gakko and Vtubers especially Hololive. Gawr Gura is my oshi. But a lot of the Hololive girls are awesome. Bae the Australian rat. Marine Senchou the horny pirate. Kanata.

Calling them a combo of metal and anime is a touch inaccurate for my tastes. A lot of Japanese music uses a variation on the pentatonic scale just with different intervals than Western music, plus anime music and other genres of Japanese music use different scales like the Hirajoshi scale. I feel it would be more accurate to call Babymetal a fusion group that fuses metal with pop/J-pop.
There's another popular fusion group in Japan, but they bring together hard rock and traditional Japanese instruments. The group I'm recommending is called Wagakki Band and they have eight members, two women and six men, all of them highly-skilled. Their popularity is right around that of Babymetal and both are great live, though that's where any logical comparisons end. The song I'm recommending is "Overture + Amenochi Kanjouron" live from Yokohama Arena in 2018. The "Overture" part is an introduction to the band person by person, and the rest is the band's first single. Here's the link.

BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old when the group began.
All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these for a start.

At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member.
Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.
Good luck and hope to see you again.
