    Thanks for doing a full on review of this product. I’ve been waiting for one since the announcement. I have this on preorder being a cockpit builder and I’ve had the older cougar HOTAS and Winwings Orion with F16 grip. This looks like a great solution for my full F-16 Cockpit build. I appreciate your well rounded view and assessment of the functionality. Thanks a lot buddy.👍👍

    Total bummer Thrustmaster got cheap and made the knobs, buttons & most switches plastic. On the OG Cougar they were all fully metal.

    I am left wondering whether 500 euro's is a bit too expensive for what this is. That price point means that it needs to compete with top of the line products. Like Virpil's VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle for ~423.5 euro's and VKB products (Most expensive throttle version being the Gunfighter Mk. III Base with Modern Combat Grip Ultimate (with twist) &
    Omni Throttle Adapter: 238 + 345 + 57 = 640). Comparatively, this seems like a tough sell to me. But if you specifically are seeking F-16 style throttle for immersion, it might be worth the surplus to specific users.

    While I've always wanted a viper throttle - dont get why they chose to move buttons around or eg gears not where they're meant to be - thought like the A10 HOTAS they were going for authenticity and makes that part useless if trying to recreate it all 1:1 in a simpit

    You don’t need to stay on the gear handle to immediately get the gear up. The gear will extend/retract below 350 knots. Usually we count 2 seconds after wheels up and hit the gear lever then.

      Good way to get your gear ruined in gold old BMS .... I don't think that's proper procedure, esp on a F-16. >_<
      Above around 180 it used to be your gear was ruined and wouldn't work anymore and would just be stuck ...

    • @arroyo_Lt0
      @arroyo_Lt0 Před 8 měsíci

      @@CommDante The gear on a viper in real life isn’t as brittle as in these games. I was down at Osan for some time. I’m not saying bring your gear up once you hit 350, that’s retarded. But, you don’t have to keep your hand off of the gas just to make sure the gear comes up as soon as the plane does.

    If you're actually building a pit, better to just get the throttle and save yourself a chunk of change by building your own panel. It's got useful switches, but nothing is where it should be in the actual cockpit.

    great video however for anyone looking into buying a viper throttle id much rather recomend the winwing throttle as it is higher build quality for a lower price. in my opinion 500$ is way to much for this throttle especially when looking at competitor prices. virpil while for sure more expensive is an amazing hotas system and worth looking into. VKB can be slightly cheaper then virpil but will still set you in around the 700+ range for a full hotas setup. winwing offers great prices for very good quality. many people have said virpil adn VKB are better then winwing but from my experience it is not that noticable of a different honestly and for the price reduction that you get form winwing it is very much worth it. for those who want a hotas setup winwing is offering an f15 styled throttle with an f16 stick for around 380 that is very high quality and if you wanna spend a bit extra to get that f16 throttle as well that will bring you to 480. not cheap but from my experience a very worthwhile option that i can highly recommend. hope everyone has a nice day

    In the f16, the autopilot switch is spring loaded and is automatically pushed into default position when an a certain aoa is reached with it turned on. Unfortunately that does not carry onto the Hotas making it a bit useless. The only good feature of this thing is the slap switch.

    • @CommDante
      @CommDante Před 8 měsíci

      Yeah, for a piece this price, kinda excpect more....and although specific ingame requirement might be high -> Who is buying it? Yup, people that spend 50-70 dollars per modular aircraft...on a 15 y/o game (kinda forgot how long it was until I saw bootup :P ).

    You don't have authentic flight controls unless you get a force sensing stick, like the one from WW.

    • @phreak761
      @phreak761 Před 8 měsíci

      The Winwing force sensing stick has a major issue because it has a deadzone in the middle making it impossible to make fine adjustments, the only real force sensing stick on the market is the Realism FSSB, you can use it with a warthog grip or their own grips.

    Great video with real expertise! thanks! but I am not sure about your negative point. The one fits all has it's limit. At some point, when you fly, you want immersion and to get it you need to replicate it. I don't feel flying an F16 with a dual throttle. Like you don't feel flying a Boeing airliner with a push yoke. Otherwise, you can push this idea and only fly with a joystick because it fits all type of plane on earth. right? now simulation is expensive for sure.

    I rather like the throttle itself, esp compared to WW, but all the buttons and especially the gear are soo weak/toy like .... they make little to no sense other then 'gamey'.
    Yes on the Warthog people often put switches to other stuff, but you could at least look ingame/in cockpit down where button was...and then use it ingame.... here it's just a mush of decently often used buttons, on a weird place.... imho better off getting the base and make your own 'THQ button's' with an andruino orso...

    I have several Thrustmaster products & I like them. I'm into a full cockpit build now & I'm considering Winwing for the helicopter end of it ...I like their collective. I've looked at this system & questioned the use of plastic when other products in this price range are mostly metal. My X-56 HOTAS is mostly plastic ...I have no issues if it is of good quality & feel. However; Buttons are different as they have moving parts that wear out & for me ...they must feel of quality ...nothing is more disappointing than a rubbery feeling or loose switch. This brings up the question of button quality ...I noticed that the "heading bug-button" appeared to be very lose ...was I wrong? That would be the game changer for me.
    The base does little & can be cheap ...but if the switches & buttons are lose & floppy ...I see it as an indication of poor quality & fear they'll fail.
    Other than that one button ...it looks of high quality How do the buttons feel to you?
    Great video ...thanks.
