They really need to come up with a product in the $5,000 range.
I love the cinematic look of 24p!
It hurts to look at for me.
I'll stick with 24p.
Madvr is a gimmick an a waste of money!
I would take that amount of money and invest in my whole system or just save it 😊
If you say so Kman.
@@kman9387 let me rephrase that again for you. Madvr envy is an overpriced pc with it’s proprietary technology that is not worth the costs
Looks like the soap opera effect !
That's because it is the soap opera effect, just highly tuneable.
Another great video! madVR is such an incredible product!
There A.I still gives it a soap opera effect that's still just as distracting as with it off
Yeah I noticed that too when it was in the Balenced mode. The Low mode is the one that looks good, but removed some of that jutter.
Yea it looks like every effect that aims to smooth the picture. Does not look good.
I don't mind the SOE at all tbh.. inuse it on my JVC projector and looking forward to this update.
@@jadan2000 Perhaps it has a use on some projectors, but in this example it just looks like too much. Maybe it can be reduced?
@Guuggel it can actually. They have 8 different levels of intensity
We have fine tuned and upgraded our home theater for years. We are retired and love watching movies with our kids and grandkids and friends. The best upgrade we have ever done is the Envy Extreme MK 1. We have now upgraded to the MK 2 and are delighted. Our home theater is our boat or RV and we get much more use out of it than we would out of either one.
Interesting video, thanks for this. I'm sure the MadVR is a great piece of kit - but I'm increasingly seeing them promoting features that I'd pay *not* to have, like frame interpolation and their "smart" way of distorting a 1.85 image to fill a 2.35 screen. Clever processing, for sure, but not something that I see as desirable. I thought that Baby Driver clip looked hideous; I know, some people think that "technically better" means "artistically better". I am not one of those people.
Holy Soap Opera Effect. Batman!
Hey look! A $15,000 box to convert your movies 60fps like 1950's televisions.
😂
Absolutely!
Waste of money 😊
New to watching your content , would Love to see more Themed rooms !
Welcome!
I got demoed this at the show and tbh I wasn't a massive believer of the value of the envy but this was pretty cool. I also went home and watched the same clip and while it wasn't as bad it wasn't great either. I liked it in balanced. High almost made me throw up. At home I don't like running any interpolation.
They don't have any update for MADVR?
Does it fix compression artefacts? If so, its a game changer as it would emulate 70mm film.
This is probably the best motion video I've seen. For me, it's most evident @7:50 with the trees and the man running to catch the cab at 0.25 speed.
I also realized that I'm almost immune to motion in movies and might even like some judder but if had a choice I would pick the setting that preserves the director intent and in some I would crank it up. Nice to see some Reality Creation sharpening in motion.
For me as equal parts cinephile and gamer, this is equivalent to the 30fps vs 60fps debate (only 24p vs 60) which a lot of us have experienced especially with remasters and the new consoles. You can easily toggle almost any title with a quality and performance mode from 30fps and 60fps and the moment you turn the camera with your controller, you can spot the difference clear as day (even though it's not A/B) and the recommendation is always to switch to performance mode as long as it's stable even at the cost of slightly better graphics. Unlike games where there's a slight visual trade-off for double the frame rate, MadVR gives nothing up in doing that except for its sticker price. I'll be honest, MadVR is way out of my budget but if I were building a theater, it'd be a must and I suspect all custom installers use it in high-end theater installations.
This demo is a little misleading, in that the 24p video is actually being played back at 60p with a 3:2 pulldown, which adds an uneven judder due to the altered frame cadence. Most people with a well tuned AV system would not be watching 24p video like this, so this split screen is exaggerating the difference. They've had to do this to show the demo as a split screen, which I understand, but without it being pointed out it renders the demo a bit misleading.
What i love about my affection with true 24p cinema is that i can save so much money ;)
Looks like the SOE. If the directors intent was for the film to look like it was shot with extra frames, they would have shot it in 48 / 50 fps.
I’m not concerned about maintaining director’s intent.
The representative for MadVR must have said it 5 times 😂
Would like to see the side by side with LG and Samsung, maybe even Sony optimized interpolation settings vs this madVR.
Mad vr is basically showing you video tech that wont trickle down for years so if you reallly rich you can be ahead of the game. Nice to see the future.
Not sure it'll take all that long for TV makers to match this. Moore's law being what it is. But yeah, deep pocketed early adopters can sign up here!
I hope! 100" tvs for 3 grand already so things are lookin good
Isn't madvr a mpc a plug-in or they are two different
There is a free PC version that does tone mapping. madVR Envy does so much more.
This looks sort of familiar to me. 😆
Hi with my LG oled there is the option for Ai or none Ai personally I switch it of ,the madvr is an awesome bit of kit ,but crikey it’s expensive, and do we really need it ,personally I think the video and audio business, has just gone crazy, there are so many products that manipulate what we watch and listen to, it’s just like people who are into home video and audio, are never happy with what they have ,let’s face it if there wasn’t such a product like the madvr ,we then wouldn’t worry about the picture 🤔,what’s happened to the good old days, when we buy something, and that’s it for a good few years ,and enjoy it
It's a high-end product for those that want the absolute best. I actually agree - my main TV is a Sony from 2014 (it's 3d so I can't replace it). Now you'll ask me why I haven't bought the A95K. Well, I have a Samsung OLED laptop that does 1,000 nits APL (full window - it matches Sony's $30,000 reference monitor) and I can put that laptop in my lap and play the same video as my TV and watch them both at the same time with the same size and compare them. I can't justify the A95K when the difference is invisible to my family and almost to me.
Paying an extra to get the soap opera effect
This is basically DLSS 3 Frame generation but for video.
When will the price improve? So common people can afford it too….
Yeah this is basically a installer product. Where the client is having a theater built and they just spec it in the project. Regular enthusiasts this is hard to justify, great product but price is $$$$$$$
2045
@@matta9316you can pick up a MK1 for cheaper
Hey Michael thanks for all your FYI😊 We all want good motion when watching movies and tv shows and even those folks who are gamers. 😊
Thank you for the kind words Michael
@@Youthman Kind words for a kind man.
I did not see a substantial difference. I think it’s better to focus on a better projector and screen first, before this. Definitely better for elite theaters.
The Envy typically is paired with a great projector.
Motion AI looks great. I'm a winning lottery ticket away from home theater nirvana...
your the sort of guy who likes 10 sugars in coffee
Just an extra pump of white mocha please
So basically they are adding fps when the film industry and fans (as you can see in some of the comments) fights this. And I totally get everyone has their preference so there is no right answer. I’m a gamer and have always wanted movies to be smoother. Feels like I’m watching a flip book at 24 fps sometimes. I’ll definitely keep an eye on tech like this but wish they just shot movies in 60fps to begin with and then people should be able to adjust that on their player or tv, just like you can do in games (pc mostly). Easier to take out frames. Cool video! Thank you
It isn't that simple. Changing the shutter speed of the camera changes the exposure and the look of the film. A 24 fps film cut down from 60 fps would look entirely different that native 24 fps. Also, since 24 doesn't evenly divide into 60, there'd be uneven frame pacing.
They shoot some films in high framerate and it looks awful. Watch HFR Gemini Man or The Hobbit. Just horrible.
@@SDMasterYoda like I said. It’s a matter of preference of what looks horrible to each person. And if there is the tech available for AI to add missing frames, I find it hard to believe that they can’t take frames out. This already can be capped on pc video games at any frame pacing you prefer.
@@jbones1453 You can't compare physically recording something with a shutter to rendering in a video game. It's apples and oranges. The shutter speed needs to be at least double the framerate. A common shutter speed is 1/50 for 24 fps and you would need to shoot with a 1/120 shutter for 60 fps. Each frame will have less motion blur and not look right if played back at 24 fps; A lot more work would need to be done to get something shot at 60 to look right at 24, and it will always be off. Not to mention the extra cost of shooting films at 60. If using actual film, thats so much more film being used; For digital, it's a lot more storage and every VFX shot will require 2.5x more rendering time to render 60 fps effects vs 24.
If you can't see it, play back the examples in 0,25x.
yep, that's what I did too and it's clear as day.
@@techsamurai11 in person it is way better than in this clip :)
@@patrickmartin4482 exactly….I was at AAL and watched it and it makes a significant difference
The case is such a huge improvement along with the sound being reduced.
Definitely saw the difference with AI on/off. Almost looks like a blu ray vs a dvd.
who would spend 10-15k for a video processor? their product is nice but about 500% over priced, lol funny stuff
I always find it interesting when someone says something as overpriced. That’s entirely subjective. What you may find “not worth it” could be completely worth it to someone with more disposable income. It’s all relative.
@@Youthmanif have nothing to do with the income .if you look inside the hardware what this guys use for the 13-19000 dollar madVR envy extreme system this is not honest to the community… so it’s a this about being fair …for a coffee for example you don’t pay 200 euro right 💁🏻♂️☝️
Looks the same to me. I would not spend this kind of money for such a subtle difference. I would rather put another $20k into a projector.
Absolutely nothing wrong with that. We all have to decide what we value in our theaters.
@@Youthman perhaps I should have said I would pay up to $5 k for this type of product. I am not saying it has no value it just costs to much for the difference it makes.
Likewise, there are those that own one, and would say the exact opposite. Everyone has a different idea of “is it worth it”
Totally agree!
Madvr is a waste
Did you have the video set to 60 fps? You won't see a difference if it was set to 30. It looks very obviously like the soap opera effect with it on.
Just a horrible feature..
YES!! Cant wait to get my Envy Extreme mk2! Mind blow at the scratch sticker... I'm super pumped now!
lol. Hard to determine if you’re being sarcastic or not.
Normal people can't afford it. At all. Way too expensive. Way.
who cares ? Not everybody can buy a supercar but still enjoys.
You can buy a used one
motion interpolation is evil. You are sh!tting on somebody's art. If it was shot 24 FPS- It is meant to be seen that way. Motion smoothing should be illegal. Hey- why not make box that recolors famous paintings? Devices like these should be nuked from orbit. They clearly have NO RESPECT for the filmmakers.
Why do they shoot in 24 frames? I can definitely understand Kurosawa and Hitchcock's movies retaining 24 frames per second but Maverick in 24fps is probably better at 60fps. Is it our eyes that are just used to bad motion? And by the way here's an excerpt that explains why we are using 24fps in the move from silent movies.😄
"In the silent film era, filmmakers shot movies between 16 and 20fps, which was why the motion appeared fast and jerky. Today, filmmakers typically shoot video at a minimum of 24fps because this is believed to be the lowest frame rate required to make motion appear natural to the human eye"
@@techsamurai11 24p is just historic requirement, otherwise the rolls were too big and too heavy and a single machinist was not able to change a roll. There was no technical reason to go that low in frame rate.
@@patrickmartin4482 That's what I thought. Plus it must have been easier to edit 24p films since they have fewer frames and they could tape sections more easily.
😂 calm down pal no one is forcing you to buy one
This 👆👆👆 🤣
we love our new generation of extreme as well. perfect marriage with the nz9.
That looks horrific 🤮
No thanks.
