  • I'm back in the water after a long break. The wind was light and extremely variable in both speed and direction so it was a tough day, but it feels great to be back on the water. I'm loving this new North Loft 8m, it's definitely getting me on foil on days I couldn't before. I'm riding the HA 880 front foil here but I should have been on the 1675 to try to stay on foil through the lulls. I'm going to be doing a lot of struggling to sail in marginal conditions here over the coming months, so hopefully I can provide you all some good data for your low wind rigs. Thanks for watching!

2 degree that a huge top plate shim but doesnt surprise me with Armstrong has i made almost the same conclusion. Having a bigger foil might be better for those conditions, im not a big fan of big wing , i rather have a small wing & big foil and work on a lot of different manoeuver, instead of just going fast tho the utility of your setup is more oriented toward clean surf in the ocean.
With a big foil when the wing get stronger on a lake you can even ride small bump which is really cool ! Yes the dw foil might be a good choice, but i think as well paired with a powerfull and light 5m wing in the low wind range.

Thanks Youdig, I agree that the big wing is a pain, especially since I'm really short. It's always so light and variable here that I figured I'd get the biggest of everything, (DW board, pump foil, 8m) in order to maximize my opportunities. Hopefully as I go through the summer here I'll find a balance between huge wing and foil that works for me and won't always go right to the 8m. I'm glad I brought it this day though, I edit out a lot of waiting around for a gust and with a smaller wing I'm afraid I would wait a lot more.
The shim is huge, but man it makes an enormous difference for me. I'm still all the way back in the tracks and feel like I'm constantly struggling not to breach. I think a lot of it is that I am really light weight at about 130lbs so it's hard to keep the foil down. The plate shim definitely helps me and for me the attitude of the board is more natural when shimmed. I feel like it's similar to riding a surfboard with the nose a bit higher than the tail when you are trimmed correctly.
Thanks for the comment my friend! Hope you are getting some good days and making progress!

@@FluidFoil not much surf foil here so im dockstarting a bit but i got some nice session free flying with the wing and it’s really cool when the surf is not good ! Oh wow i had the issue with too much backfoot you have the exact contrary of mine haha 🤣 crazy how armstrong foil went from backfoot to front footed with the new mast and stab, maybe you should try to get regular a+ mast and a hs232 stab , in the meanwhile if you didnt do it , you can shim your stab too to get more backfoot blue and red regular shim from amstrong give backfoot. See you buddy yewww 🤙
