    I'm happy to be alive in this era. I've lived long enough to see the birth of Def Jam with Russ and Rick, and now, I'm hearing the back stories of those early parties.

    I felt like I joined a couple of theologians having a cup of coffee a discussing the origin of life! Wow I am honored. This ties so many loose ends of my early childhood. I loved B-Boy as a kid growing up in the late 70’s early 80’s. I was fascinated by the movement and it stayed in my heart and soul to this day.

    As a former DJ myself who studied as many DJs as I could back to Flash, DXT was probably the most advanced DJ before Jazzy Jeff, along with Whiz Kid. Sharp, rhythmic, and quick with his scratching when 99% of DJs were doing basic rub scratches. And Freddy is one of my hip-hop idols, Mr Cool in the flesh lol.....Salute Rock The Bells!

    Fun Fact: The guy who was Fab 5 Freddy's manager in 1982 claims it was he who really recorded the "Ahhhh! This beat is reeeeally fressssh!" part on 'Change the Beat', not Freddy.

    The 70's & 80's Edenwald Day cookouts are some of my fondest memories. I can still smell the Curry Goat coming out of the community room. And don't forget about the block parties on DeReimer Ave.

    DXT aka DST... I had a few of his excellent 12 inch singles "Crazy Cuts", "Mega Mix 2 - Why is it Fresh"(wheres mega mix one?) and the hard rocking "Home of Hip Hop" plus stuff he did with Material/Bill Laswell . Definitely took the scratching/cutting/ mixing to the next level his style is abstract, futuristic even in 2023. He needs to have a compilation album 😢of all the different projects he was part of from 1982 to present day.

    The story of HIP HOP was manufactured by Fab 5 and Jean Basquiat. I'm just going to call a spade a spade. Although I was 14 years old when HIP HOP the package, was being promoted. I know that Graffiti had nothing to do with the music! Being from affluent Queens and going to 600 school in Brooklyn, having and playing a DJ sound system was NOT synonymous with being poor and downtrodden.
    Latching Grafitti writing along with the music with Abandoned burned out building as a back drop, gave it a criminal element. Graphitii was a massive problem and NYC at the time. They were looking to pass felony laws for the participants. So the media came looking for stories. Fab 5 gave them one. Now that blackfolks who are still around and can tell their stories without the aid of MAINSTREAM MEDIA, the truth can be told: DJing and Dancing did not START in the BX, nor did JAMMING IN THE PARK or having 5000 WATTS of POWER. THE JIG IS UP>>> A NEW YORKER, who was there!

    • @hershelfowler6257
      @hershelfowler6257 Před rokem +2

      Interesting, without the criminal element hip hop is disco. Makes since as the dj, breakers, and graffiti got played out of the "culture ". The criminal Lifestyle became the requirement of success in the culture.

      Some Caribbeans and some Latinos are involved and they are not going to tellnthe true how African Americans, and the Black Spades Invented Hip Hop. Some Caribbeans and Some Latinos are saying that Caribbeans Started Hip Hop which is a lie on the television and on the internet are saying that Three Caribbean made Hip Hop which are herc, baambaata, and flash which are Lies.

    the beginning of the tape had a clear section so you had to time when to start the recording. Depending on the equipment you might hear a click on the cut.
