  • In this video we explore the changes a Gas Bleed Off System makes on the previous issues we experienced with the Faxon 8.6 Blackout. It's interesting what a difference a small hundred dollar system can have!

Hey guys good video about the 8.6 blackout! There's just a couple things off in the video for information surrounding bleed off. The bleed off is not at 4 full rotations or 16 clicks, it's after 18 clicks(at least on my model). The superlative arms system is the best adjustable gas block on the planet right now and it's great for any caliber. But with only 16 clicks it's going to be running at about normal gas settings. Based on the video tests done, either the original gas block wasn't sized right/was defective, wasn't installed correctly by the factory, or shooting in different atmospheric conditions caused the gun to perform worse/better depending on how hot/cold the day was. The 8.6 is still experimental and videos like this help the community better understand what works/what doesn't and you guys should keep doing these tests in the future!

I would be tempted to check and see if that old gas block was installed correctly.
Also, I don't remember you mentioning this method in the video, so I will comment on it. One way to check gas port alignment when installing a new gas block is to flip the gas block upside down. Usually one of the set screw holes lines up perfectly with the gas port hole in the block, thus you can line up the gas port in the barrel with the set screw hole in the block and check to see how much gap is needed. Then spin the block upright and try to maintain the gap.
I hope I explained that in a way that makes sense.
Oh, I don't know if you are interested in an ammo source, but I believe Aitken Arms is making 8.6 BLK ammo. Looks like they are making subs and supers.
    Thanks for the video!

You said with 18 clicks of the adjustable gas block it solved the ejection problem but 18 clicks is the same as the stock gas block, fully open and not in bleed off mode.
    18 clicks fully open
    1-17 clicks Restrictive mode.
20-48 clicks is Bleed off mode.
    Read the Superlative instructions.

The team provided a great description of the failures, perceived driver and testing of an implemented solution. Thank you for sharing with the community! While I'm very interested in the 8.6, I'm not an armorer and I will be waiting for Faxon to demonstrate it has fixed the issue rather than buying a problem and hoping to fix it myself.

The factory gas block wasn't aligned correctly.

Why can't it come from factory with that adjustable block already 🤷‍♂️

100% agree. At that price it should. Thanks for watching.

so is your conclusion that the rifle was assembled improperly or is it just under-gassed when using the supplied gas block? I'm doing my own 8.6 build pistol build right now with a 12" barrel and I still haven't chosen my gas system parts yet. I really like the concept of the superlative bleed off, but shooting suppressed isn't a huge priority for me I'm just doing the build to make a powerful but super compact hunting pistol for mule deer

also any other considerations that you think are important for planning an 8.6 build? such as buffer weight and spring?

Can't really say for sure since we reviewed only one gun. If anything, the new adjustable gas system has helped. Buy if you're not concerned with suppressed then it won't matter as much. But better to have it and not need it. Also consider a heavier buffer, but again it's really a matter of testing and adjusting since each gun is its unique result. Hope that helps. Good luck. Would love to hear how it comes out.

How about putting a 8.6 barrel on a ruger SFAR??
