The MCAT is one of the biggest determinants of your competitiveness as a medical school applicant and it’s not uncommon to see students take the exam multiple times to maximize their scores. That being said, retaking the exam isn’t without risk. Here are three important questions to ask yourself when deciding whether or not you should retake your MCAT.

Last year, I took out 5 months to prepare for the MCAT. I studied roughly 6 hours a day for 6 days a week. I took the test and received a 505. Atp, I was in DPT school bc after the test I didn’t think I would do well and I was unable to attain shadowing experience. Without an outstanding MCAT, I figured I wouldn’t be accepted. Long story short, I left DPT school and decided to follow my heart bc I wasn’t fulfilled and I knew I would continue to feel the “what ifs”. I found shadowing experience with a surgeon who had a daughter in my program. The only way I could do the shadowing which was M-F for around two months was to leave the program and I did.
Not even a year later and after roughly ~150 hours of shadowing that I was able to obtain after leaving PT school, I am here. Applied to 6 MD programs. Received interviews for 3, and accepted to two programs.
Moral of the story, DONT GIVE UP. DONT ASSUME WHAT YOUR SCORE NEEDS TO BE!!! BE CONFIDENT AND BE COURAGEOUS. Read “sweaty palms the art of interviewing and being interviewed”!
Best of luck to all future physicians who subscribe to this channel.

Not a med student but this MCAT ruined my friendship... my ex best friend was doing MCAT and got failed, stopped talking to me, and blocked me. Now he's a chemistry major. Yes it hurts.

theres no such thing as a fail on the MCAT. theres only bad scores vs good scores. also, what does your ex best friend studying MCAT have to do with them blocking you? your comment makes no sense

@@NO1xANIMExFAN lol fail means not getting marks for med school admission. If you didn't get the appropriate marks means its a fail! What is the purpose of MCAT if you can't get into med school?

@@NO1xANIMExFAN yeah i know that makes no sense but it actually happened sadly enough. he was depressed, and I asked him to meet my outside for a lunch (since he haven't met me for straight 1.5 years bcz of MCAT prep).

I'd be interested to see a video on the pros and cons of going an older, more established medical school versus a newer school. And whether to go the same school where you went for undergrad

MCAT is the fairest thing ever. You choose the score that you want and study until you can achieve that score. Settle for a lower score and that’s on you! 🤷🏻‍♂️
