How to build a fire pit on a sloped hill

So we have a slight hill in the back yard and we wanted a fire pit for entertaining so I dug out the hill by shovel and made a flat spot to hold chairs and still have enough room to not get torched by the fire

I like your design. I've got a sloped hill we are turning into a garden area with a fire pit. My land has LOTS of rocks so your brick front with rocks in the back is interesting. I've read not to use rocks because they can get moisture and crack or explode. Have you had any problems? Did you pick special types of rocks? Thx!

no problems as of yet. when i was a kid we always used rocks around a fire pit camping all the time. I did not use fire bricks either.. i am not an expert but i have had over 30 fires in there and nothing bad has happened. just the cheapest rocks i could find nothing special. not sure if this helps just do your research and make up your own mind is the best advise i can give you.
