I was 21 years old back in 79 and I think those "old bike" has come off better than me.
🤣 I feel your pain. Thanks for watching 🐲!
Best medicine is riding, Nice work.
180 is very good. Depends on how fast you can spin the motor. I was only getting around 145-150 on mine. Also I used premix for my first engine cranks as I actually poured a little in each cylinder with my plugs out just to get the rings to start working again. Also. I did not convert to Electronic Ignition. I still use points and it runs great!! I did buy EI to replace the points , but it is running so good I have not bothered to install them yet.
On these bikes theres always a little bit of oil seepage, especially when they are on the kickstand.
Hence the smoking on that particular side. That's why I only use the kickstand for short stops and the center stand when parking for longer.
Given the time the bike was standing, perfectly normal. Sounds healthy to me.
A little seepage yes, but this one has been smoking like this for over a week and isn't getting any better. It may need valve seals, or worse. It also need s quite abit more work than that, like tires, brakes, clutch, new cables, valve adjustment, coils, points, ect. The owner was under the impression it just needed a carb adjustment and front master cylinder according to previous owner. He never figured on spend that kind of money, I believe he is going to give up on more repairs, I'm waiting for his answer currently.

My ‘75 GL gets 42 mpg. Not bad for a big , heavy bike with no windshield or other bodywork
Mine smoked for half an hour too. And then it stopped. After 37 years of sitting, it is to be expected.
This one is going on 3 days now and still smoking...
@@thedragon2299 time for some Berrymans down the carbies

What rear shocks are those?
Progressive Suspension was on there when the customer bought it.
Thanks for watching and commenting. This one needed valve seals and does not smoke any more and is running great now. See the video here: czcams.com/video/krdHLD0WDG4/video.htmlfeature=shared
Appreciate the information. This is my business where I Restore and Repair Vintage Motorcycles, I happen to be quite familiar with Goldwings of all years.

Smoking that much is not a valve seal issue esp with heads in vertical position where it’s hard for that much oil to get past seals into combustion chambers.
I bet it’s either the exhaust system & muffler/s are full of raw fuel & or oil thst needs to either be drained/cleaned out or burned out by riding the bike a high speed on interstate & getting into it hard at time to blow out the old oil & fuel in the pipes.
If that doesn’t fix it even though compression tests good that doesn’t mean you don’t have an issue with stuck or broken oil rings, even leak down test can show ok if valves & 2 upper compression rings are sealing well.
I’d add a healthy dose (2oz per gal fuel) of chevron Techron carbon, carb, fuel injector cleaner thru a full tank of fuel on interstate pushing it to clean the excessive carbon etc you saw on backside of intake valves & combustion chambers out of the motor sling with a healthy dose (1.5-2oz per qt oil) in the crankcase at the same time to try & unstick oil rings that may be stuck too.
A bottle BarrymanB12 applied thru intake eith motor running at like 3500-5k rpm is also a good way to quickly clean the valves & comb chambers.
Good luck.
Replacing the valve seals took care of it. czcams.com/video/krdHLD0WDG4/video.htmlfeature=shared
Is it still smoking? Check the oil level…Possibly Stuck or Broken Piston Rings who knows? I have similar experience with mine pour some Mystery Oil in the fuel tank and crankcase you’ll probably notice the difference.
It's the valve seals. When I pull off the intake boots and look down into the backside of the valve you can actually see the oil just laying in there. Customer decided not to put anymore money into it, but his cousin has until Saturday to let me know if he is taking over the project. Thanks for watching. @@thedragon2299 I always replace valve seals on mine and sometimes they happened to have bent valves , loose guides etc. 1979 is the last year of gl1000’s they don’t make smaller GW anymore.
