      @ExileTheKnightsOfMaltaNow first thing first, you don't have to worry, you will never hurt a VFR with too much rpm, they read line at 11,500rpm. It has a rev limiter built in, so you can rev it as high as you want, they are bullet proof. They can run all day at 11,500. Most people can't even ride one of these at 11,500 rpm because they are so powerful at that rpm no matter what gear you are in. I still run this same set up as in this video, it's all around better, mostly because you use the lower speeds way more than you use topend, mine will still hit 140+ with this set up, you don't need to be there very often, but you do accelerate all the time, so you spend most of the bikes time accelerating, as opposed to top speed if that makes sense. My VFR has transformed quite a bit since this video, I totally customized it. Check out the playlist on this bike here: czcams.com/play/PLICWLX3xQIRPse1CE7i6iDCtlniyAO7Ln.html&feature=shared

    Cool I'm happy to find this video I picked up a used VFR 750 and the owner had done this conversion to 1 tooth smaller in the front...... and I'm weighing the possibility of going back although no hurry...... I take it it's normal to be able to cruise at lower speeds in the upper gears... surprised me in contrast to my BMW K75 would lug at those low speeds in an upper gear..... so what you're saying is you still not having any trouble keeping up on the highway? • @thedragon2299
      @thedragon2299 Před 15 dny

      @markmenard6961 the large main line goes from petcock on tank to side of carburetor with the biggest port, the other hoses are just vents and the one on bottom of carb is just a drain hose. On the vents they are usually just ran up higher somewhere out of the way so they don't get full of water or mud. So there is really only 1 that you need to hook up to make it run, and that is the main fuel line. It will run with out any of the other lines.

What you can do is pull out the spark plug, put it back in the plug wire boot, and lay it on any metal part of the engine and pull the rope to see if it Sparks or not, that will answer your question about the battery hooked up or not.

      @ehrenerdbeere6731 you need to "read the spark plug". That will tell you what is going on with the tuning. It may just be a carburetor situation. Search how to read spark plugs. While the plug is out, do a proper compression test to make sure the engine is healthy internally. Start with that and see where you are.

    I have ridden and owned a few wings but I will never get rid of my 86 Cosmo Black Goldwing Interstate that I bought new , it the best in my opinion ... its not loaded up with junk that fails with age , its relatively light at 700 pounds so its a great everyday bike , holds a ton of shit in the bags , and the flat 4 is just a sweetie ... Great gas mileage , 7500 redline ( it really moves out in the higher rpms and sounds crazy good doing it , and when the air suspension is set just right , rides so so good , and the nimbleness of this big bike is uncanny not to mention the way they kept the weight low makes this bike handle like no other at low speed . It loves the twisties ( you can be aggressive with this bike and lean it way over ) and it shows just right amount of engine to make it look sexy . Yep .. its my favorite goldwing of all and i will never part with it ... The newer wings are just to laden with weight . technology , and everything is covered up with plastic for my liking and a lot harder to service and repair ... There great touring bikes for the open road , better for two up riding (I ride solo ) but way more of a handful for everyday bike duties that I need ... There just too big ... I like the middle weight of the GL1200 , best bike I ever owned and travel long distance all the time with it and it has never broke down in the 37 years I have owned it ... Happy Motorcycling

    I have a nighthawk project bike that I went thru , first off , it doesnst sound like its hitting on all cylinders , I had a problem with the one plastic spark plug cap and it would smoke just like that and i too thought is was a internal engine problem at first , that thing is so smooth even running on three cylinders that it will fool you into thinkin its running on all 4 but its not ... replaced all 4 caps and its fine , no more smoke . Just start it up and touch the pipes without burning yourself to see if its hitting on all 4 . The carbs sound out of sync and clogged up and they gotta be right , re clean all the carbs and replace all the rubber gasket and orings , bench sync the carbs and make sure the intake rubbers are not leaking , a little carb spray around the intakes while its running will tell you if its leaking there . make sure you heat them up with a heat gun to remove /install the carbs , they are super rigid and this helps soften them up . Another note , all these older bikes run like crap with modern gas and honda leaned them out real good so they will not run right on stock jetting anymore . You have to up the pilot jet 3 sizes and put a washer under the needle on the carb slide on all cylinders to get you in the ballpark to fine tune it ... All the older hondas are like this , my 86 goldwing ... same thing . they wont run right with modern gas . Symptoms are hesitation from lower rpms , running on partial choke till they are completely warmed up to idle right , crappy low end response , stumbling ... Hope this helps

It looks brand new. I had a '73 CB750 in my youth and decided to recapture some of that feeling when I retired and found myself a real sweet, low-mile (less than 10k) '79 CB750 that needed some work due to being parked for so long and have been enjoying the ride for the past five years. Certainly looked like a great ride & a nice time. Any updates on the 84 Honda Nighthawk 700S?

      @thedragon2299 Před 25 dny

      @andrewfarrant198 it was a good ride, thanks. Will be more on the Nighthawk 700s soon, I tore it down and found a few problem and the customer decided not to spend the money to get it right, picked it up, then weeks later asked if he could bring it back, so once I get a couple bikes done it's coming back.

    Liked and subbed, great info. I got an 83 ct110. Wouldn't run tore carb apart compressed air through every hole i could find. One small tube about 12 inch long is hanging off the carb i have zero idea where it goes and is not a vacuum hose according to closing it with thumb. New battery and it starts immediately first lightweight kick vroom. Idles forever. QUESTION, why on earth is my oil now filled with gasoline and gasoline backed up into the intake? Its running very rich but has plenty of GO. I can understand a faulty float (which is not leaking) causing the rich and the gas in the intake. But WHY on earth is my oil reservoir filled with gasoline? Id love yo hear what you and others have to say. I must be a die hard because i did watch the entire video 😂😊

    • @thedragon2299
      @thedragon2299 Před 24 dny

      @danthieman7858 the float is either sticking or wrong height adjustment and the fuel is overflowing the carburetors into the cylinder, past your rings and into the crankcase. Do not run the bike anymore until it is fixed, you will destroy the engine in more ways than 1. Make sure to shut your petcock off asap to stop this problem. The gas will also wash oil off cylinder and damage cylinder if you run the engine. Thanks for watching the entire video!🐲

    • @thedragon2299
      @thedragon2299 Před 24 dny

      @danthieman7858 oh, the small is either a bowl vent if its on side of carb, or overflow tube if it's on the bottom, run them accordingly.

    I'm a big fan of Eliminator 900s I'm going through the whole thing slowly. Just did tires and brake disks and pads. It runs well I'll tune up the engine too. Carbs run well also. Do you think tey realy run lean?

  • @rodneymcalpin
    @rodneymcalpin Před 27 dny

    Dr. Rod, I work on a lot of these. Because ignition parts are hard to come by, I use chinese cdi box and coils when I have similar issues. They work great and work with the original cdi pick up. Chinese cdi units can be bought for as little as 7 dollars. The chinese ignition coils also work well. When the tank is installed, you can't see the parts

    HI- could you show the neutral lever, etc. I'm looking at one right now. In diagram, real life pics. there is a spring, nut with cotter pin on these bikes. That is to adjust the neutral when you put down the kick stand from my research. I would love to see a nice slow, detailed video please. Thanks, Wild man RG3
