James May on whether The Grand Tour will return & His Euro '24 predictions | The Today Podcast Live
We are BBC Sounds. The home of binge-worthy podcasts, music curated by music lovers and live radio. - Zábava
The three of them do a podcast .. Watch old episodes and drink gin and wine and give us behind the scenes stories.
This is a great idea, they'd get so many viewers
@@dishwashingdishes 350 Million
I would love this but I highly doubt it will happen 😢
thats an easy 200 million viewers
@@kieranclifton2022 Absolutely !
Love James May, he knows how to command a room, great sense of humour and debonair and sophisticated ❤
I only watched top gear for James, his solo work is great, the one on electricity is my favourite and cars for the people
Debonair - not many have that quality today !
You need to look up the meaning of debonair. He's many things but debonair is definitely not one of them by any stretch of the imagination.
We all knew the end was eventually going to come. But it's still really sad. Thankfully we have 20+ years of amazing videos and specials to enjoy forever.
Thanks James, Richard and Jeremy for a lifetime of entertainment.
Very well said :)
Anyone who have followed the trio for years, will always ne interested in following their future work. Tg and tgt has been such a huge advertisement for themselves, separate, that none of them should be any worried about whether they have a public who are listening or watching or not. They could make something together just once a year and I would be satisfied with that too.
This is really sad, I liked the Sand Job special a lot, it was great. The guys still got it and it's still fun watching them do their thing.
they should at least do car reviews, its pretty low effort and i think theyd enjoy it
Better to end on a high than to fade away into irrelevance
@@mystarafilms People argue they faded into irrelevance when they moved away from TG already.
My only dislike in sand job is they did it with proper high performance cars and not some used cars that have been given modifications that will of course hilariously break, old TG special style. They did that with the Madagascar one too. I get it's a lot harder nowadays to find second hand cars that would be good enough for such abuse, but it would be nice if they went back to the old school style just once.
@@Croz89 What are you talking about? In what world are a Maserati GranCabrio, an Aston Martin DB9 Volante, and a Jaguar F-Type "proper desert rally cars"? They got normal cars and modified them, like they always did.
I'd love to see another series of The Re-assembler. It's like James May's version of "Bob Ross: the Joy of Painting"
I know they would never go backwards from the heights (and massive budgets) of the GT specials, but it was never really about how exotic the locations were or how incredible the camera shots were.... if the three of them went back to doing £2000 challenges in and around Birmingham in dreary November, they'd still get huge audiences.
I've see this phenomenon in only one other tv show and its simply because the people involved were friends not just colleagues.
And the irony is, they are friends who don't actually like each other very much.
What is the other show?
James looks good grey. Theirs was the best version of top gear i think, and i dont give a bleep about cars but i watched their tours
Here’s an idea. Why not just let them be done? And do nothing? They’ve earned it. They don’t owe us anything.
@@ScottXC91 Did you even read the comment before you replied? All they did was complement James and Grand Tour, nothing to do with whether or not they should continue.
I'm so glad they did the grand tour. They were given freedom the BBC would never have given them and a budget to dream of.. real adventure. So inspiring.. thank you..
Dang rip a piece of entertainment that gave me immense joy in this life
The silver hair (at its current length) and whiteish beard suit him so well!
James May always has such a humble personna. Ive watched his cooking shows, his travelling shows and his youtube videos. He is always entertaining.
Im glad TGT has finished at a relative high. The one offs were great but it became obvious tgat they are getting old now and JC is struggling a bit with knees ete. They have all given such amazing entertainment and cant be replaced, as TG proved, because the chemistry was always there between them. Captain slow, the Hamster and JC just can't be replicated.
I am thankful for you and clarkson and Hammond being part of top gear and grand tour
I want them to do a cars news episode every month
It's a sad thing. I've loved top gear and the grand tour, and just the whole interaction between the 3 of them. Honestly, I think I would enjoy the three of them just standing around buttering toast. They are also great in each of their personal endeavors.
Ive been watching the three lads since the beginning about 20 odd years ago when Jeremy introduced James to Top Gear by calling him a blithering idiot 😂 Obviously we are all going to be sad after the next special and The Grand Tour is officially over but let’s be realistic even if they kept going another ten years or so and announced the show was ending then, we would still be sad. There’s no good time for it to end, but between TG and TGT we have about 222 episodes to go back and rewatch for the rest of our lives if we wanted.
Unless you have physical copies, watching them all online isn't possible.
I imagine people aren't going to be happy when they announce the recast of The Grand Tour
This makes me genuinely sad... I hope they still do something together, we will never have a better trio in entertainment.
They will do one more $$$$$$ lol love these guys
They were too big and broad minded. To travelled and experienced to be contained in little england. So proud of them all.. A magical undefinable recipe, the three of them.. As James May once said ,even they don't really understand it.. They just know it works.. and that it can't be replicated. it's unique combination.
Right before James started talking about clothes I was thinking how dull his shirt is compared to some of the more flowery and colorful stuff he used to wear.
(He looks nice though.)
I've enjoyed all the spin off series that these guys do on Amazon. It's given me time to imagine, if Grand Tour were to continue, they should pass the torch to some of the people from their other projects. Hammond could be swapped for Tory Bellici, May could be swapped out for Yujiro Taniyama, and Clarkson could be swapped out for Kaleb. Imagine those three bantering together over cars. I think it would be quite entertaining because of the personality differences.
James may =cheese 🧀
I am like James I make clothes look crap 😂
Rumour have it
The Beeb did or have reached out to CHM about a Top Gear Return
@DeanMoxley87
Beeb wants CHM back for Top Gear? That would be a dumb move from the BBC. Having the trio back for a couple of years would only make it more difficult after that to replace them again.
@@Brinta3 maybe it's time to put TG to bed, but let it go out on a high
The crowd roar when Clarkson shouts "We're back!" would be heard around the world.
@@benische Honestly. Just thinking about that gives me goosebumps.
Won’t happen. Their health isn’t great anymore.
Its not just that we want more grand tour or we dont want this cast to be gone or the specials
Its because these three invented Uk jokes car television
And only they can steer it
Whether they are there or not
If the whole thing just ended
It would be a bit shame
Because we also respected what idea they made and it can continue with their guidance even if they wanted to retire their careers 😂😂😂❤❤❤
Height Ordered for example
FANTASTIC
On TG it was "The News"; on GT it was "Conversation Street". The lads just talking shite is all we really want.
Heavy duty foot wear!
You have any idea who makes those boots?
It's good they're ending The Grand Tour (TGT) on a reasonable high. As it had already entered its twilight years and begun to go past its best following season 3. Top Gear (TG) was also in its twilight years and past its best when the incident happened. They re-strengthened the flame with TGT for a while, though as amazing as it is, TGT never quite captured the magic and charm that TG had, and TGT isn't as re-watchable as TG. However TGT had a great run, but nothing lasts forever, and all good things come to an end, and the time's now right for them to call it quits on TGT.
Average football match: 90 minutes, one or no goals scored, nothing happens.
James May: THE GREATEST SPECTATOR SPORT EVER CONCEIVED
Football - well argued, James. Does it confuse the English that it’s hard to convince Americans and Australians of this? I can definitely see the point of view of the casual game with friends, who might complain “aww you can’t pick up the ball”, and it’s true that football is harder. But as a TV spectator sport? It’s “The Beautiful Game”. The dollars don’t lie. It’s the biggest thing there ever is.
only cause poor people.
"It’s the biggest thing there ever is." It's the biggest sport but far from the biggest thing there ever was. Footie fans will argue it from a money point of view, and globally they may be right, but being 'bigger' doesn't mean limiting it to financials. It's about more than that, so I'd say music is far bigger than footie.
@@Elwaves2925 You're comparing all of music to one sport. How is that fair? A better comparison, one not comparing apples and oranges, would be "music" and "all sport" surely? And although I don't know I wouldn't doubt if someone told me that all sports is bigger than all music
Clarkson's Farm has been Epic
Hamster has his smallest Cog
Captain Slow I hope will continue in our man in __________
May is a CZcamsr first now lol
I think Mike Fernie from Drivetribe put it best
They are into other stuff now, they don't live for cars anymore
Here we are, the cruel man who doesn't want to make The Grand Tour, I can't stop crying
All good things come to end. It's good that they're ending it on top and on a high. Most shows end on a big low, having gone well beyond their best before/use-by date. They've been doing TG, followed by TGT for 22 years. They couldn't carry on doing it forever, especially the huge and very tasking specials they've been doing. They're getting on now. Clarkson is 64 and May is 61. It's understandable after 22 years, and now being in their 60s, that they're burned out and have had enough of doing a major car-related entertainment show.
Heartbreaking.
Sadly they are done
It seems ridiculous to say ill never go on another road trip in a beautiful country with two friends for a large some of money.
To avoid football and endless political dribble, I started wasting TG from the start (JC/RH and later JM era) it actually took 3 series to get the balance right and become the TV juggernaut we know. I skip through the celeb/track bit, not interested; which is what their presenting magic was. You never feel like they are ‘tv celebrities’ and that makes them as a trio or individuals, incredibly watchable, that and the fact they also have some very interesting and intelligent things to say in and amongst the bafoonery. I really enjoy JM’s cooking and travel programmes.
Chatshow not podcast
So glad Amazon took them on. They have really blossomed.
Clarkson's Farm has done more for English agriculture in just a few years than farage in his entire life.. and that's not an opinion. Reality..
Jezza for PM May can be deputy and Hammond the Chancellor
Please somebody tell the trio to do the last Grand Tour episode in Ukraine. Just imagine that!! Would be a proper send off and millions of views
Uninsurable
They did go Georgia and Azerbaijan. Looking back a very important episode.

People may hate me for saying this but I'm glad TGT is coming to an end. It never really clicked for me and, unlike Top Gear, I've never been compelled to go back and rewatch old TGT episodes. Clarkson's Farm and Our Man In... have been truly great however and I absolutely go back and rewatch old episodes of those shows like I do with classic episodes of Top Gear. TGT just felt like they leant too heavily towards the fake/scripted stuff and not enough on the cars/inventions they were driving. Old Top Gear cleverly disguised the scripted stuff but in TGT it was so obvious that it wasn't as funny or entertaining. I won't miss TGT at all. Thankfully we got those other great shows out of their Amazon deal.
There were some great episodes, but a lot were not. The standout was Mongolia, one of the best specials ever.
I agree with this for the most paart, but I still think TGT S3 is some of the trios best work. That entire series was top teir.
I mostly agree with this. IMO, the issue of leaning more towards the fake scripted stuff, and the fake scripted becoming far less subtle and too obvious, had already started happening in a number of episodes of their final 2 seasons on TG.
Agree. TopGear always had a feel of 'schoolboys being mischievous behind the headmasters back' - they were working inside a strict set of rules in the BBC and they always tried to push the limits, especially Clarkson....
When it moved to Amazon, it became more corporate, sanitized and I suppose had to appeal to a broader audience. Something was lost in transition. Still, no complaints here. At least we got to have them on our screens for 10 ish extra years.
Agree with a mix of comments here. The Mongolia special is by far the best GT and have watched it several times.... however most of the GT is just them trying to be funny when they are clearly not. The end of Top Gear was very similar in that I'd never re-watch the latter seasons of their Top Gear career. The golden era was the epic cross Europe races, £100 cars, £1500 Porsches, cheap supercars, early F1 drivers in the reasonably priced car.
Agree to disagree
I find soccer "football" to be soooo boring as a spectator sport.
I'm impressed with their skill but my word its boring to watch.
Dude, your username is literally "Dallas Cowboy" and you comment this? You can't make this up.
It's like someone created an account to post a comment like this and tried to think of the most suitable username for such a person
efff the bbc, long live the trio
James May thinks that football is complicated.
Now we know why he doesn't watch F1.
They’ve done all they can do. It’s dead. Let it lie.
I have to get this out of my system... Nick, I appreciate your skill as a broadcaster and perseverance but please retire from radio. I have to listen your voice most mornings and it's like nails on a chalkboard. Honestly, it is just ridiculous to have a radio host who's voice is destroyed.
What rather smug and awful interviewers.
Amol Rajan does come across as being rather dismissive whatever he’s doing but because of his speed of delivery he is really good as the University Challenge question master.
Interviews are as bland as most BBC content.
01:55///WTF?! cracking your knuckles on TV, that made it imposible to watch for me. such embarassing behaviour.
I don't mean it harshly but that makes it a you problem. There is nothing embarassing about it.
The people of India are going CRAZY that President Obama is CONSTANTLY chewing GUM, and then on TOP of that, he took it OUT of his mouth, put it BACK, you CAN'T DO THAT, it's DISGUSTING!!!!
@gestapo81 Embarrassing like your username
Blah blah blah...drivel.
Try to keep it about the video and not your own comments
...I thought the last special was the last one.
This is, _GOOD NOOOS!_
