  • Learn about and tips on how to make the Fat Quarter Pop-Up Container by Fat Quarter Gypsy. This is a fun little container that pops and only needs one fat quarter to make.
    VIDEO CLARIFICATION: Before putting the bottom onto the basket, the tape around the spring must be cut. Also, the basket must be turned inside out before sewing on the bottom.

    Wow, I had no idea you could buy a kit to make this kind of thing at home. How wonderful! Thank you for sharing, x

    I made one at my quilt group for Xmas, so cute! We used the plastic packing tapes, it worked really well and mine I can twist and it closes. Great to take with me to quilt groups!

    just finished up 3 of these. Thanks for making the tutorial. There was one thing I saw that was incorrect. I sent you an email with a suggestion for the correction to your video.

    Do the kits on Amazon come with the springs? I would love to do a large one.

    • @Needlepointers

      When I read the description section on the pop ups, it appears that the fat quarter pop up container pattern includes the spring. But the stacking pop up and the basket pop up patterns do not come with the springs (refills). You have to purchase them separately.

    Thanks for the the video. I don't mean to be a pain but could you please explain on putting the bottom on? Mine looks horrible.

    • @Needlepointers
      @Needlepointers  Před 7 lety +1

      I just aligned the bottom and pinned it all the way around and sewed it at the seam allowance. There were some puckers because you can't get it perfect. I then zigzag around the seam edge to finish it because otherwise it's a raw edge on the inside.

      Hey Marilyn, Mr. Domestic does this as well, but with a little more instruction. Check him out, it’s pretty good

    Before you closed up the bag, when did you clip the spring?

    • @Needlepointers
      @Needlepointers  Před 7 lety

      Yes, in the instructions you put in the 4 safety pins and then you clip the tape off the spring. The pins hold the spring down so that you can finish putting on the bottom after the spring had the tape removed. You then remove the pins and the spring can pop up. Hi Tia, I did not show how to make the whole thing in this video because it's a copyrighted pattern. I was showing the parts that I thought were more difficult or needed more clarification from what the instructions gave. If you purchase the pattern, the instructions should fill in the blanks on how to sew the bottom on and about the tape. Thanks for watching!

      Check out this page for links to where to purchase the kits: www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?CZcamsPageID=43. A kit with instructions to make one is around $12.

    It would have been nice if you told us the measurements from the bottom where the elastic, tab, and label were placed. Assume that we know nothing as patterns are confusing for newbies.

      Thanks for your comment and suggestion. We try not to interfere with the copyright of the pattern owners so do not give these types of details in videos about paid patterns. Thanks for watching!

    The springs are too expensive.

  • @meisie41
    @meisie41 Před 2 lety

    I think the raw edge inside the pop up is a design flaw. You should not have a raw edge, not professional. I have done bottoms on bags before and I think you could add the bottom and then the pop up wire still cut the tape and safely pin it and then finish the top edge by turning it in and sewing or sewing a binding over the raw edges on the top.

    You could have made this video a little bit better doing and explaining as you are doing the entire project. Explain if the other sizes are made different. Better yet, have a video say of the extra large size being made from cutting of the material all the way up to releasing the spring. This video made it more confusing to me.
