Comment: Daisy Brau discusses her discovery and practice of the Arará musical tradition. The Arará culture was originated in the Ewe-Fon of the Dahomey, kingdom of West Africa. Once enslaved and transported to Cuba, the Arará people blended with other Afro-Cuban groups, their religions and musical traditions, but always keeping their own distinct and guarded heritage. Daisy Brau presents her personal journey as it started with her family through music, folklore, and Afro-Cuban religions. She also points out the beautiful melody of the Arará music, while showing her group “Daisy Brau, Reina, y Obareanlé” singing and performing with hand percussion.
