- Hot air despite the Auto AC set to low?
My car started blowing hot air from passenger side vent during our trip to Florida earlier this year. I had 68F set on both sides, yet on the passenger side it was blowing hot air. Later the problem traveled to the drivers side. Restarting the AC console would fix it for 15 minutes. The problem was dirty HVAC pump.
In this video I show how to clean the HVAC pump.
This is a common problem on high mileage Audi and Volkswagen cars with automatic AC.
I am sorry for the video to sound sync problems at the end of the video.
This fix worked and I have put over 8k miles since I performed this service. The AC works like new.
I have an 2006 AUDI 3.0 TDI quattro Avant and yesterday I had the same problem - a REALLY hot air was blowing on the driver's side, as if the HEATING was set to max, but a cooler air blowing on the passenger side, but still not cold enough. Today I did what you did and now it works great! A 15 min work and can save you a lot of $$$ :-) Thanks for the video, man and all the best!
Thank you 😀🙂 , hard to find people kind enough to teach us about Audi's and learn these types of things
Just did this to my A6 the other day and now it blows cold like it should on the far left side. Thank you sir :)
Was it a difficult fix? How long did it take you?
@@GrillMarkCo Not at all, it was fairly easy, only took me about 20 minutes
Thanks for the great tip, local garage couldn't fix it saw your video and fixed it myself. Now the a.c. is working great..
Exactly describes the problem on my A6 which has baffled my mechanic. After a long run these symtoms occur very hot air through both side vents but cooler air through the central vents. Your solution makes much sense and I will try it when i get back to my base. Car is a high miler 113K and otherwise runs very sweet with exellent MPG on a run and flys through emissions testing . Thank you so much for posting this
When I got the chance to look at this the solution described here it fixed the problem. A/C now all singing and dancing blowing lovely cold air. Time taken about 20mins and an easy job for a home mechanic.. Thanks again
Knowing how long ago you made the video, not sure if you see messages. But I want to say BIG Thank you!! It helped me to fix the issue!!
Dude.. where should I send your beer money to? did what you showed and worked like a charm!
Just subscribe and watch my videos - that's enough ;) I am glad to hear my videos help people solve the issues they have!
lol I just bought mine today and yes its blowing hot air now I am gonna try what you did hopefully it works thx.
Good afternoon I really appreciate your time and patience to share your knowledge and video. I'm in Florida as well, and it's a must to your AC working right.
Thanks again
Thank you dude! Im still running with these older Audis, and you help fix my broblem👍
Worked for me - thanks for video. Took 15 minutes. Mine leaked a lot of pink coolant - easy enough to top up. 3 days in and so far so good. It seems like it's blowing even colder than it was before - the temperature controls are more useful now.
same thing just happened to me with the coolant. now cleaning the pumps and will put them back in tomorrow and hope for the best! will be sure to top off pink coolant as well :)
@@mangomushroom I've had the same problem with mine - I completed the clean on a hot engine and coolant level dropped significantly - did doing the clean on cold engine sort out the issue for you?
Mate i.m doing it today if this fixes my problem i.m coming all the way from eastern europe to give you a beer😅
Thanks Man, this was happening to my Audi and I am going to get if fixed now I can tell them what needs to be done.
Im sure my A6 2.8 Quattro has the same problem, many thanks for your video
Thank you very much!!! Very helpful video, work on my 2010 A6 C6 2.0 Fsi 👍👍👍
Thank you. This fixed all the problems with my ac unit😊
Finally I have some cold air! Thanks!
I followed your video completely but now I have the problem that my car doens't blow any hot air anymore when set on a hotter setting... anyone having the same issue?
Did you ever get the heat working again?
Thanks for this I have a 2012 A7 and the same thing is happening to me. I’m gonna try this and see if it works
Hey I have a 2012 A7 and my A/C isnt blowing hit or cold air. It seems to be blowing whatever the outside temp is. Let me know if this works for you
Did it work for you?
Thanks man! got my A6 running like a champ again, no more freakin HOT air!
Mate thank you much !!! That thing solved my problems. All the best for you !
This is for the engine mostly, to fix the A/C goto Walmart and buy this EZ Chill R-134a Auto AC Recharge Kit with Leak Sealer Plus - 18 OZ, and attach the hose to the aluminum pipe and pump the ac fuel back into the pipe. Do this while your car is on and heat on at full blast. Thank me later 😊
I’ve already used 4 bottles of Freon and still blowing hot air. It’s 100* F where I live :( my a/c broke right during the beginning of the heat wave
Great video. thanks for explaining the process
I have the same problem and I will try it. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing. Please tell the viewers what year/model your car is. I have a 2005 A6 Quattro and it looks different under the hood. Gotta check component location...
I have the same problem. Did what you said but when I got to the last screw, some liquid starting coming out. So I aborted for now. Any thoughts. Thanks
Thanks for the info. This is what my AC is doing.
So showed I did not see the copper washers. They are the cause of jamming. What do you think?
Thanks for sharing. The cleaning fix the issue.
Mikołaj :)
Od razu wyczułem rodaka:)
I have a A6 also 2008 I'm going to try it thank you I will keep you 👍🏼
does it helps if i dont get HOT AIR in cabin when set temp to max? temp is 90 staying good
Hi mate I have a 2003 Audi a4 1.8T convertible and my Econ light was on since I had the car, so decided to give it a diagnostic and it told me to replace the high pressure sensor, so I did, the light has gone out now but the air comes out cold but not colder than what it has always been. Before i changed the sensor i took it to the garage and they refilled it but didn't charge me bc the econ light never went out. So don't know if they took the refrigerant back out? Do you have any ideas? Cheers
removed the parts as shown and cleaned them up. putting it back together and now it leaks. Did you have to reseal it with a new one?
had the same problem. Didn't tighten the screws enough. Tightened more and stripped one but it is not leaking anymore.
so i have a Audi allroad that the ECON wont shut off also i but the temperature to the lowest and check the compressor and the compressor runs and if i turn off the ac it turns off but the car keeps blowing hot or ambient air, also checked the refrigerant and is good, can this be the issue?
This must be an a6 thing? I can’t find anything like this under the hood of my 07 A3.
Thanks, but that part isnt getting removed in my case 😢
Where is it in a 08 Q7?
Thank you mate nice vidio 😀😀😀👍👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing!
I have 2006 A6 A/C stoped working, VCDS shows 00018 cold air flap v197. Any idea?,.Thanks handsome
I also have an C6 A6. Where is the AC compressor clutch relay located? Cant seem to find any info.
Any idea where this is located on a 2009 Q7?
I have a q7 also, where is the hvac pump? i couldnt find it under the hood.
Sorry, I am not sure on that one. I would assume in similar location.
I couldn't find it above firewall. I'm stumped.
@@billbrandenburger3105 I asked the tech at the Audi dealership, and he said it is located on the passenger side under the dash (dash has to be removed). I haven't attempted to do the fix yet, so I am not sure exactly where it is located. If you do it, can you post the steps somewhere, because I am clueless to how to even remove the dashboard. Thanks.
im looking for mine on a 2011 Q7 and cant seem to find it - any suggestions?

My a6 doesn't blow but when im driving air comes out cold ac works when it wants to
MeCoWhy ? Its the fuse I just did mine but one side blow hot
Does this work on A8?
Audi a3 2009 blowing hot air one side?what can b problem?
Trying this tomorrow
After cleaning do you need to relube or oil the mechanism? In the video the cover seems to show some kind of oil. Thanks.
no lube is needed, just clean it.
mam pytanie czy q7 jest bardzo problematycznym autem? mam obecnie infiniti, ale chce wieksze auto dokupic by sluzylo w rodzinie. Pozdrawiam.
Tak dużo problemów z elektroniką
Thank you
Mine was working but my ac stoop blowing now I did what u did ac run cold but my driver side is hot
My 2011 Audi A4 Quattro won’t blow any heat or ac. Would that mean my blowers are no good ?
if there is no air blowing, its the blower motor. its the most complicated thing to fix i swear. it took 6 hours yesterday to try and replace it, and i failed, cracked my glass, and almost broke a cover lol
As I begin to remove the metal covers, I get fluid (coolant I guess) forcing its way out. Is that because the engine is still warm? So does the engine need to be stone cold before doing this? Thanks.
I did mine on cold engine. Let it cool down completely before you try again.
@@TheRealMeCoWhy Many thanks for getting back to me. Weirdly even the light lifting of the metal covers and some coolant leaking out then closing them down again has got it all working again so looks like it is def the culprit. Will give it all a good clean tomorrow and hope for the best. Thanks for saving me the £££££££. !

Hello I have 2008 Audi q7 and passenger side blows cold air only. If I clean that! It will blow hot air again?
Abel Garcia did you get your problem figured out. Think I have the same issue.
I have a 2007 Audi Q7. Is this part located in the same area as the A6? I am having the same issue.
Did you find where the part is located on your Q7?
Hi has anyone tried this on a 2017 Audi Q7 3.0L?
When I opened my pump it was filled with coolant fluid. It drained out. Clean the pumps but still not cooling put the pumps back now having coolant leak. But the pumps was dirty and I clean them.
If it was hot when u opened it then it would be

Hmmm... my 2006 Audi A6 a/c not working, but I can control hot air. My a/c slowly died, not suddenly. So I don't think it was compressor.
Could this video be the solution? Also, what is the dirt on the metal spindle called? Is that corrosion/rust? Will WD40 work to remove it? Thanks for posting this video.
Hi,
What's the model and year of your Audi?
My one is 2007 A3 TFSI 2.0. Just want to know if the location of the pump is same as my car.
Thanks
Mikolaj Stachura No worries. Thanks man.
How can I get the clima " LO" ?
I have 2006 A4, but don't see those two under the hood. Is it that different?
This is Audi A6 specific. A4 does not have it.
For the a4 look at the ac line right under the hood by the passenger side one is hot and other is cold .The cold one has a big bolt open it up in side the cold air line there a ourfist tube change it cost about 20 dollars that should work.
@@tonyal4532 ourfist tube?
my fan isn't kicking in, does this have anything to do with it.or separate problem
take out the blower motor and change the brushs or brush springs
Same problem
What can anyone say about the following.. My car blows hot at like any temp before reaching working engine temp (90C) then It blows hot at 21,5C and up. If you go lower than that it just blows cold 🤔 ac works fine in the summertime
I have 2007 A3... no cold air for first 5~8 minutes, then it starts. I had the control switch replaced (it was leaking) and the system recharged. Doesn't seem to have any leaks (no dye). How does this HVAC pump interface with the system, if it can be removed without compromising the refrigerant closed system?
The HVAC pump is separate from the AC refrigerant system. The refrigerant will not escape. Unfortunately I do not think 2007 Audi A3 uses HVAC pump similar to the one in video (if at all). It sounds to me though that you may have a different problem (electrical, relay, amount of refrigerant, temp sensors, etc). I recommend taking it to a knowledgeable mechanic.
I first took it to the dealer... or I should say "stealership." To diagnose the system, they said they'd have to purge and recharge the system. In the end, they told me what I already suspected--the compressor needs to be replaced, and I had to pay $300 for that "confirmation." Then the estimate? $2,100. Absurd. Never again. I went to a reputable local shop and they'll do the A/C compressor plus condenser with all labor for $900.
sorry to hear that :(
2007 A3, is that the 2.0T engine? I never replaced the compressor on that motor but I did on the 1.8T and it was super easy. Used compressors usually run around $100 if you are handy enough to do it yourself I would say - give it a try. I am just DIY type of a person.
Yep, the peppy 2.0T with DSG trans. Very fun to drive. Nearly as nimble as my old TT. I'm very handy and have worked on previous cars I've owned when time permitted. But A/C is completely unknown to me. Dealing with refrigerant scares me... so I figured best to have it taken care of and it should be my last time. Given what I had to sink into it for the 80k service and timing belt replacement, I'm gonna stick with this car for at least a few more years. Drove a loaner 2017 A3 S-line and was wowed. Somehow felt a bit cramped, though.
The timing belt on those cars is a must have service. I have done 2 x 1.8t and 3.0. The 2.0t (fsi belt and tfsi timing chain) seem pretty easy too. AC is simple, just a matter to recycle the old refrigerant. Have you ever checked the cam follower? $20 or $30 part that tends to fail on the 2.0t engines and may cause massive damage to the motor.
Where are you located? I dont mind lending a hand if you are local ;)
this does not work
Bro I don’t found for 3.2 fsi
