    This video got recommended to me, I'm not terribly interested in puzzles, it's been years since I've done one, but there is something interesting and enjoyable about watching and listening to someone going over something they're passionate about. It's wonderful that there's niche and close communities about stuff like this, keep on doing your thing

      @davidlindquist1499 Hi and thanks for taking the time to watch. The puzzling community on CZcams is so supportive of each other. I'm convinced that if you're interested in something, a group of enthusiasts can be found on youtube.

    Thanks, John, for giving us a small overview about other puzzlers that tackle 40K+ puzzles mixed together. You have to be a little bit crazy to do so - and I like this! 🙂
    I am also one of the (many) nerds that are interested in hearing about repeat cut patterns, so don't even worry about the technical part being boring!
    Although I am on the other side of the puzzling spectrum (i.e., I am speed solving smaller puzzles, having just returned from the World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship), I really love your content and also love your approach to puzzling!

      @LogicMasterSteve I watched the world jigsaw puzzle championships online and I didn't see you on there. I'm not as into speed puzzling (as you can tell by how slow I puzzle), but I have seen some of your videos and enjoyed them. I'll have to re-watch some of the championship so I can see you on there. I hope you had fun and had a good finish.

    Hi John! I'm Rafael. Thank you for showing us your puzzle and your tips about the patterns on the pieces . We have been working with my son on the 42000 puzzle since February of this year. We are finishing bag #6! We don't mix them. We hope to finish by the end of the year and put it on the wall. Greetings from Argentina. 🇦🇷

      @rafaelaviani2694 Hi Rafael, Thanks for watching. That sounds like a fun family project. Starting in February and on bag 6 already, you all are making great progress. You must have a long wall because this is a long puzzle. Keep me updated and let me know if you get it done by the end of the year. Greetings from Pennsylvania.

    Hey John, thanks for the shout out on your channel. I’m going to try to post my progress on Flickr in the beginning of each month as you do on youtube. I’ll try to post tomorrow, as it’s already October 3rd by then. That’s only going to be a 2 week progress this first time because I started puzzling 2 weeks ago this coming Wednesday. So I’m not familiar with the repeating patterns yet but seeing your video prompted me to go check my border that’s already finished and I can confirm your suspicions! The 3 first sections are rotated 180 degrees from the last 4. Oh and as for my name. Maarten sounds almost like Martin in english. So you can just call me Martin (always loved the Lethal Weapon movies so that’s cool 😋). Great progress by the way… I’m a long way from where you are but there’s no rush 👍🏻😊

      By the way, you also Mentioned Penny. I actually got to know her on Flickr almost 10 years ago and she is a big part of the reason I decided to do this puzzle with all bags mixed. She’s great! Looking forward to her next progress update on Flickr as well as on her CZcams channel…

      @Maarten_Storms Hi Maarten, I can see how that would sound similar to Martin in english, and you are welcome for the shoutout. It will be interesting to see your updates. Thanks for checking on the border pattern for us, that will help me and hopefully other people doing this puzzle. I watched a mixing video 3 years ago by Puzzle Momma and didn't realize until just now when I clicked on her name that they are the same person. That video is what gave me the idea to mix the puzzle in clear tubs so everyone could see all the pieces.

    Happy to hear my comment about the bear from last month helped! It wouldn't surprise me at all if some of the pieces there are from a different bear somewhere else on the puzzle. Impressed by your methodical process with the sky pieces! It's absolutely the thing you need to do with so many false fits, but I feel like I would want to wait until there weren't that many fun parts left.

    • @puzzlemethis.
      @puzzlemethis.  Před 10 měsíci

      @FluffyLlamacorn Hi, yes, I saw what you meant and thought I could move the pieces around and make them fit but then I couldn't get them together again. Dad was looking to see if it could be another bear, I'll have to ask him what he found out. The sky is tricky, sometime I need to just focus on switching those pieces around. I am trying to do the darker sky more carefully and it looks better than the light blue part in the middle of the puzzle.

      @janspearman9310 Hi again and thanks, I thought maybe those 4 bags might have been the life puzzle pattern, thanks for checking. Mom said to put the technical part a the end because it is probably only interesting to me or someone who has done big puzzles or is working on one. Hopefully I didn't ramble on too much about it. I do find that nerdy stuff interesting. I have ridden in South Carolina many times, it is a beautiful state.

      @janspearman9310 Our country is too beautiful not to see more of it. I really encourage you to try out some of the National Park System. You know, we invented those! I can recommend: driving through North Dakota and Montana (catch a sunset over the plains), driving to and through the Colorado and/or Wyoming Rockies, the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone (yes, crowds), Yosemite (yes, crowds), Glacier National Park (yes, crowds), seeing the Redwoods and Sequoias, Key West (just one time), Maine (Acadia national park has the first sunlight to fall on US territory), Maui (expensive, but the vibe there is unlike anywhere else), an Alaskan cruise (glaciers are something you can't take your eyes off of!), the rainforests in Oregon, Dinosaur national park (you can see fossils still half-excavated right in the cliffside), the Shenandoah valley in Virginia, Washington DC (again, a great vibe), Lakeshore Drive in Chicago, Iowa (corn) or Kansas (sunflowers) in the summer, Vermont in the Fall to see the leaves, San Francisco's wharf and nearby Monterey Bay, and lastly for this list (but not last of all the beauties in our fair land) is a drive on the Pacific Coast Highway (I prefer the Oregon Coast, but you can do the whole west coast from CA to WA). Here's wishing you beautiful places and memorable travels.

    Hi John :) I follow your journey since the beginning and I quite often listen to you while puzzling by myself. I'm not good at words and I don't even talk in my videos (just sharing time-lapses), but I have finally decided to add a comment to thank you for your valuable contribution to the puzzle community :) It's always a pleasure to watch your new video and I'm sure that one day I'll complete this puzzle by myself - actually I have already bought them, but a lack of space holds me back, so eventually maybe I'll just do them bag by bag and temporarily put everything together in a garage :)
    But for now - at the end of the summer I finally finished Educa 12000 Wonders of the World (it was the first time I mixed all pieces) which were also designed by Adrian (couldn't find his face on them though :P), share some common graphics and have the same cut pattern as 42000. Both sides have the same cut repeated 6 times and are flipped 180 degree against each other. I imagined that larger elementations would have all adjacent bags flipped gainst each other in a way that all even and all odd parts are in the same orientation, so it was quite surprising to learn about your findings :o There is also a 18000 Sistine Chapel and 24000 Life in my queue so it will be interesting to find out how Educa managed the order there...
    Anyway, thanks again for another nice video and please add my vote for the finish date - May the 4th 2024 - but I'll keep my fingers crossed for an earlier date, good luck! :)
    Gosia

      @JustOneMorePiece Hi and thanks for watching. I just watched your 12,000 Wonders of the World video and you did a great job on it. The CZcams puzzling community is such a welcoming and supportive group of people. I don't really like talking in front of people, but it feels like talking to a group of friends so that helps me get through it. It is interesting that one bag is flipped 180 degrees on the 12,000 piece puzzle. With all those big puzzles on your to-do list you may have to do some of them by bags just to have time to do them all. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, it is always interesting to find out what puzzles people are working on. I will put your completion date guess in the book, john

      @@puzzlemethis. Thank you John :) And the to-do list is really big and it's still growing - I buy too much puzzles and I just can't keep up with putting them together :P Each time I say to myself "alright, that's enough for this month", my husband shows me or buys me (doesn't matter, both ways leads to the same result :P) another beautiful puzzle :) And you are right - the latest one that I've just finished (new 9000 from Ravensburger - "Kingdom Underwater") was done bag by bag not only because of the time, but I also didn't want to do another big puzzle on the floor. We puzzlers, we must take care of our backs :) Gosia

Doing a giant puzzle is worth it just to see the look on peoples faces when you tell them how many pieces your puzzle has. It is also a great excuse to get family and friends together. Working on a big puzzle together is something you and your daughter will always remember.

    Hi John. Quick question. What are u using to film your videos? Is it your smartphone held by a tripod of some sort. Do u use more than one camera or just the one? What do you use for editing the video?

    • @puzzlemethis.
      @puzzlemethis.  Před 10 měsíci +2

      @pennyweiss1974 Hi, I use a 2 year old Motorola edge phone held by a cheap walmart tripod, ( I think it goes maybe 4 feet high) it is a bit shaky sometimes, I should have spent $20 more and got one that was more solid. I just use one phone and transfer the video files to the computer. I try to do my videos in three parts: part one is me in front of the phone using the front facing camera so I can see myself. Part two is me carrying the phone around showing the cardboards using the back camera so I can see what the camera sees, and part three is me showing what is on the table, again with the back camera. Sometimes there are more parts but usually just those three. I did use microsoft video editor that comes with windows but just last month they changed the name of it to Clipchamp. Its the same thing but with the buttons all moved around (mirosoft apparently gets a kick out of doing that). It lets me join all my three (or more) clips together and crop or edit them . It is good for free basic editing and does what I need as my vides are pretty basic. Hopefully that helps, let me know if I left something out that you wanted to know, john
