    My canneries have layed some eggs, been sitting on them , but as you say the weather is hot one day and gets cold the other. Don’t know if there eggs are fertile , will wait and see, really would like some babies again. ....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    A couple of years ago l left my lights on in my bird room in December and January until about 9 pm while l was building a new avery,( it gets dark about 4_30 ) and they started to go into a soft moult, so I would say it's to much light in winter that's making your canary s moult

    Hey man, love the content. Just wondering if you have and type of air filtration in your bird room?

      No I don't. with the windows that lead out to the aviary and I have a couple of vents in the roof that keep the shed ventilated very well.

    Hey Chris,Randall here. How important is keeping my set up for breeding canaries from seeing other birds besides their partner ?

    Hi my name is Joe from Mississippi. I just started raising red mosaic canaries. Can you tell me when the young will molt into their adult plumage They hatched in late November. I’m color feeding them in their water

    • @birdnerd
      @birdnerd  Před rokem

      Typically canaries will start to molt into their adult plumage about 2-3 months after they are weaned from their parents.

  • @BenMartinbreeding_season

    Hi Chris, I would say the birds are not in top condition, I would do as you have said, put cocks back into the flight for a few weeks, and leave hens in cages if you can get some more cocks that's a good idea, just make sure any new birds you bring In are in breeding condition

    Hi, This is off topic, I was wondering what size are the cages you use. The ones that are triple breeders
    Cheers mate

    Hello, I've 2 variegated canaries - 1 male/1 female. I don't want them to breed them . My question is... Can I leave them in the cage together (with no nest) or must I separate them during mating season? Thanks for the videos! ☺️👍🏻

    • @birdnerd
      @birdnerd  Před 3 lety

      I would separate
      Them during breeding season so they don’t mate

    What is the red food your feeding

    • @birdnerd
      @birdnerd  Před rokem

      It is a red Carotene mix that I put in their food. I don’t use it anymore and I just provide carrots and other foods that contain red in them for my canaries.

    Male red factors dont really sing I made the mistake of looking for that sign when I first started the red factor canary is bred for colour not the song they do pick up songs now and again from other canarys though it's not that often the best way I find with red factors is to needle them split them into separate cages and watch the behaviour of the bird or you could vent sex either way is a good way of telling but not 100% accurate so you'll have to watch the way the birds act

    • @BenMartinbreeding_season
      @BenMartinbreeding_season Před 4 lety

      All cock bird when in top condition will sing, nothing to do with red factors, mosaic, or any type of birds

      Look up canary song on CZcams. if a male hers another male, It will sing ^^ My males quiet until it hers another canary singing on CZcams.

      Each of my male Red factors sing their hearts out...so loudly that I often cannot hear the television in the same room! So Red Factor males DO sing...LOUD and LONG. Of course, the song is almost/ totally absent during their molts.

    Sounds like your birds are slightly out of condition. I would say your cock birds are simply not mating with the females because of the condition. Split them for another three - four weeks. I would also feed mashed up greens and eggs... grind egg shells to a powder and add that to the mix. They'll be back in condition in no time.
