    great bike!, with a little love..
    camchain tension..gasket leak.. carburetor running lean...and a valve adjustment, then this hopefully runs great!

    A GS or GSX starting procedure is this simple. Making sure the fuel tap is on and there is fuel in the carby bowls. Open the choke ALL the way and no throttle, hit the electric starter it should fire straight away, if not, close the choke and try again, if it kicks great, then open the choke 1/2 way and start it again it will run, if not, you just flooded it, leave it for 20 seconds. 1/2 choke and hit the starter it will start.
    That awful knocking sound is you wrecking one or more of the exhaust valves, they desperately need adjustment, the shims are way out, running it like you are won't be doing it any good. Also the exhaust studs are notorious for coming loose, they can be replaced with a 7mm bolt which will stop the exhaust leak too.

      Thank you. I never started one before. I like em......Quick enough & fast enough for me. Though Im sure i will grow accustomed to 5th feeling like I'm looking for 6th. It runs nice quick to 80, Just learning it. Fun bike....... Anything else I should take care of? It has 14k. Completely stock original. I was told the coils are a typical problem? Then I hear the bikes bullet proof. I'm hoping the latter. I'm keeping this one.

      Hi Andrew. Thanks for your helpful comment. Regarding the valves knocking, how would you set that before you start the bike as the engine would be cold and I believe you have to set the valve clearances only after the engine is hot?

    Oh, by the way be careful that the ignition wire lead near the drive sproket inside the side cover is in its fitting, they come loose and rub on the chain, meaning you will loose 1, 2 or all 4 ignition signals from the end of the crank...

    First, hook up the batteries positive to positive and negative to negative and you won't get that BIG SPARK we heard.
    Second, PUT SOME GAS IN THE TANK. Your gauge reads EMPTY.
    Third, put down the beer when working on machinery. Things tend to go along better when sober.

    If you have the choke on full you're not supposed to give it any throttle while you crank it.

    I have a serious problem with this mate. I mean....FOSTER'S ???!?! It's Australian for: cheap nasty beer which no-one drinks. Pull yourself together man! :-) Oh...like the GS. You might find it runs better if you get all 4 cylinders firing......

    I cringed the entire time I watched this video. first of all you are jumping a 6v motorcycle battery with a 12v car battery, terrible idea. also, USE THE CHOKE MAN

    • @londonboards
      @londonboards  Před 10 lety +3

      Hey thanks for the comment but most bikes since about 1975 have been 12 volts. So it's perfectly good to use a car battery. The reason it didn't start immediately was because I have not primed the carbs.
