  • From Season One of Tony Martin’s ABCTV series ‘A Quiet Word’, where he talked shop with fellow comedians. Davies was a terrific stand-up in the nineties - and has since become one again - but this was recorded during the years when he’d grown disillusioned with live work, preferring to concentrate on TV, including ‘Jonathan Creek’ and ‘QI’.
    Produced by Nikki Hamilton-Cornwall.
    Directed by Joanne Donahoe-Beckwith.

"Bob & Rose" was a real "gift" from Alan. Just brilliant. The man can truly act. He's also so fantastic in "Whites". I actually didn't realize it was him at first. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a site where you can get tour dates, etc. & ideally buy his DVDs. So you can throw your $ at an EBay seller. (I just have always thought that the artist deserves their royalties from a direct purchase). Alan is so gifted, but unaffected, as it seems from this interview. One of my faves, but I don't think I'd even nod & say "hey, you're great" if I ran into him. He's made it clear in a few interviews that he doesn’t want the fame, or peeps to presume they "know" him on one level, but he enjoys the work. Check out his newly published autobiography.
What an interesting soul. The book will open your eyes and you will feel every emotion when reading it. Thanks for sharing this video.

Whites is indeed a great show, absolutely hilarious and moving, I wish more people knew it. He's a damn fine actor!

Just finished his Audible reading of Ignore Him. Heartbreaking, but so well written and spoken by Alan. First saw him 1991 in standup at Kent University and have been a fan ever since. Huge talent, very funny, great actor.

@@juliannechan7282 "Whites" was a whole different Alan D. I truly recall it was until the 2nd hour did I realize, " man, that's Alan Davies!". And if you want to see him REALLY "knock it out of the park", just watch "Bob & Rose". We watched all 6 episodes in one sitting on Acorn Streaming. Why he hasn't get leads or direct supporting parts in Brit, (or U. S. films), is beyond me. He really can act! Whether subtle, serious, hilarious & even romantic or heavy parts, he could hold his own. Wes Craven's, "Grand Budapest Hotel" had 3 parts that ppl said, Davies wld hv bn a great addition to. There was a solid part in " The Children Act" that he could have not just held his own in, but had shined/ shone?...(lol) in. Pffft, maybe he will have a whole different "Chapter Two" in his career. There you go! He'd be great in a remake of Neil Simon's "Chaper Two" or "Seems Like Old Times" or "Williie & Phil". We cannot get enough of his QI honest intelligence, ( besides the sharp, quick humor). The same for "As Yrt Untitled". He's truly a superb Brit export! Kp your "one-note", " ever so humble" stammering Hugh Grant, Davies has far broader appeal.

@@lizkasapos5605 Some heartbreaking themes told without the least sense of a "poor me" attitude. Instead it is a complete triumph over adversity told with great humor & humanity. A brilliant, honest read. I'd recommend this to any "thinking person" 🙂. It's a gift to not just that intelligent audience, but to those who have experienced any similar childhood trauma. Bravo to his wonderful essay and Bravo to... honesty!

I want to find a way to listen to his new audiobook in the US on Audible. I would like to listen to him talk about his life. It’s called Just Ignore Him. He will break your heart.

      UPDATED DEC, 15, 2020.
AUDIBLE HAS THE STREAMING RIGHTS IN AMERICA. A "GIFT" AS I ADDED IN A NEW COMMENT BELOW:
Have you found a way to get the audiobook here in the states. I am in CA. I have "bribed" small book shop owners, then the publisher - no joy.
FINALLY my family in London paid for it on 3 sites for me. Each time they rec'd it via streaming - they will always be able to STREAM IT. Never a hard copy Mp4 /audio file to physically put on their pc and then send it to me. I have given up. I have his 3 comedy specials (PAL dvd) and a 2nd copy of "Bob and Rose' to send you If you think you can get an audio copy. Honestly, even a woman friend, (she loves his work too). She actually joined Twitter, asked Mr. Davies directly, "How do Americans get his book on audio"? He simply replied " No idea, sorry". I know interviews and press for this book would contain "spoilers" and he has chosen not to promote it, "letting it find its audience'. It is sad, because a book like this shouldn't b e lost.

Amazon has an audible version of Alan's new book available. It appears that he narrated it. Seems cheaper if you have Prime. It is a wonderfully written, heartbreaking book. Not to be missed.
