In my opinion, the mark of a great song is that it's a song that you never get sick of, no matter how many times you hear it. For me, this is one of those songs. Thank you for sharing this.
I’m mostly a rock, hard rock, metal, guy but I jammed this album all thru my youth. What an angelic voice with heart wrenching lyrics. God bless you Sarah! Edit: thanks for all the awesome replies! So many Sarah McLachlan fans out there even tho she hasn’t had a radio hit for decades. Amazing!
My dad snuck me into her concert at Fox Theater in Boulder Colorado when I was 13 yrs old. Life changing experience. Decades later still listening to her transformative music.
Saw concerts in the Fox theater,in Saint Louis, Supertramp, you probably haven't heard of them but I'm guessing your dad has , saw them the year Crime of the Century came out, very good.
@@banjammy7367 I live in STL and saw her live at Fox in 2014 I think it was Took my husband, he doesn't know her music but I had the time of my life and cried my ass off. He patiently held me while I let her music heal me Salud
I mean, wow - just ... WOW. Not only does she hold that last note for ~17 seconds, she begins it by singing several words, THEN holds the note AND still has enough left to modulate her voice UP at the end of it. Extraordinary voice/breath control ... I'd have passed out around the 5sec mark! (btw, at ~4.21, you can quickly see her draw-in that breath). Such a beautiful song, proving that sometimes life's most daunting challenges can be surmounted and then manifest in impactful expressions of art, in its many forms.
If Sarah had been just a "One Hit Wonder" this would have been the only song I'd need to hear and call her "Legendary". My headphones exploded the first time I heard its debut as if it were yesterday. She has to be inducted into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame someday!
You know, I came here to say "I like hard rock and metal and this isn't really my scene but this is a GREAT song". And, funny enough, there's already a bunch of comments saying pretty much the same thing. This song may not be "heavy metal" by definition but it has the energy and the attitude. Not to mention an absolutely killer performance.
I thought i was the only one that noticed & appreciated those back up vocals, esp during the end where Sarah holds that long note. Back up vocals at that specific time were prob better than Sarah herself
Always wondered who she was! Ms Rose's voice is the perfect compliment to Sarah. Only other close harmony with beautiful highs are Simon & Garfunkel- Scarborough Fair, America
@@dalejenkins2827 Agree 100%. K.Rose only worked on this tour; the original backup singer for Sarah (both live and studio) is CAMILLE HENDERSON. Check this out czcams.com/video/HmS8LO0dXgg/video.html
I remember browsing new music CDs at my local Warehouse music shop, No WiFi back then, this song started playing thru the speakers. By compulsion something "possessed me" to ask the girl clerk "who was this singing?" -IMMEDIATELY bought the CD- Haven''t stopped listening to McLachlan since.
even though I'm a metalhead Sarah's voice calms me down....she hosted the Junos here in London in 2019....her voice is incredible and her music is great as well...an award winning musician for sure!
Yes, they were lines in a letter an obsessed stalker wrote her. She put it into an incredible song. After the song was released, the guy committed suicide.
Crazy how her music flows through the ears of many ages and types. I’ve been listening to her since I was in high school. Just turned 30 and reminiscing. Her music will never die. :)
Everything is so perfect about this concert; great singer and songwriter, awesome band, amazing backing vocals, the matching costumes & decor, lighting & visuals. As a professional pop musician myself, I can only say: top notch, first class!
Listen as the wind blows From across the great divide Voices trapped in yearning Memories trapped in time The night is my companion And solitude my guide Would I spend forever here And not be satisfied And I would be the one To hold you down Kiss you so hard I'll take your breath away And after I'd, wipe away the tears Just close your eyes dear Through this world I've stumbled So many times betrayed Trying to find an honest word To find the truth enslaved Oh you speak to me in riddles and You speak to me in rhymes My body aches to breathe your breath Your words keep me alive And I would be the one To hold you down Kiss you so hard I'll take your breath away And after I'd, wipe away the tears Just close your eyes, dear Into this night I wander It's morning that I dread Another day of knowing of The path I fear to tread Oh, into the sea of waking dreams I follow without pride Nothing stands between us here And I won't be denied And I would be the one To hold you down Kiss you so hard I'll take your breath away And after I'd, wipe away the tears Just close your eyes dear I'll hold you down Kiss you so hard I'll take your breath away And after I'd wipe away the tears Just close your eyes...

How eloquently She made a beautiful song of a terrifying experience. A man was stalking her a real threat. She overcame and even appears to have understood his out of control feelings.
Sarah has to be one of the most amazing rock singer-songwriters that ever existed - so versatile with such deep lyrics! I've seen her perform 3 times and was never disappointed. Her album Fumbling Towards Ecstasy has to be her best - it conveys an emotional journey. :)
It's her eastern Canadian maritime roots. She is from Nova Scotia where a lot of Scottish people settled. There is a similar feel in parts of New Brunswick and Newfoundland as well.
I've been in love with Sarah since forever. Shes beautiful, has an incredible voice, plays piano, writes great songs, seems like a nice person, what's not to like? SHe's amazing.

She’s amazing, love her music, I haven’t had the privilege of seeing her live.
Nice! There's a Fox Theater in Oakland, too. I usually just buy a ticket, tho 🙃
Is there any doubt about this woman's musical ability? Sarah kills it!

Absolutely 🤗
You are SO right; Sarah is underrated as a vocal technician. Maybe she could have been a huge success in opera.
Absolutely agree. Hand how about her band? These guys keep it moving along and the guitar interplay is so sweet.
It's easy for Her! (My majesty) She is a witch! One of the most beautiful ones.
All that in a live performance!!!!! Amazing! Amazing.
Sarah's voice, confidence, looks and energy levels are a thing of beauty. I'll admit: This song gives me goosebumps.
This song rock's☺️
She is really good, beautiful voice, hell. Beautiful lady!
i lived this song in my life 😣 i suppose many of us can say that
What you playing @ Bend .. hopefully this please.
Her breathless euphoria after she holds that last note and just vibes with the crowd is practically palpable - absolutely LOVE
Sarah brilliantly delved into the head of her stalker and created a masterpiece! This song still scares me.
she is my angel.. she saved me from depression..
¡Estupenda! The backup singer also nails it!
I love the way Sarah looks at the end of the song, she knows she just did something special
She held that note for 17 seconds. Just wow.
Clicking thumbs up doesn't nearly do justice to Sarah's beautiful soul

She is just so uniquely talented, I've been a fan since the 90s. No other like Sarah.
Sarah is one of a kind. That is an incontrovertible fact.
Yes! SO, true! 😀
Indeed.
Lyrical genius.
The entire band are of the same caliber.
My favorite Possession performance. Sarah delivers a performance that I'll always remember and cherish.

This song has aged amazingly well. Still incredibly moving and beautiful.

Smiles, hello Jennifer 🌺
what a beautiful woman.
My first female singer song writer crush... wow! haven't heard her in years. Going to see for sure on 2024 tour.
Somehow she gets more beautiful as she ages
... ='s Sarah's Heart ...
I agree!
One of the only artists to make me tear up at a concert... so delicate and pure, she is a beauty inside and out. Thank you Sarah
Check out the "Later With Jools Holland" version she did of Possession. ...amazing
She's the bomb
Not the only one to but I dig your enthusiasm. Sarah is really good
Truly an angel
The epitome of the goddess personified
Such a beautiful woman... and a voice to die for.

This is one of my all-time favorite songs. I would be the one to hold you down. Kiss you so hard I'll take your breath away - wow! What a great line.
Sighhhhhh...yes...😍🥰
Yes, they were lines in a letter an obsessed stalker wrote her. She put it into an incredible song. After the song was released, the guy committed suicide.
Her voice always put tears in my eyes, she's incredible touching
Stunning song. Stunning woman.
Holy shit this hits so different as an adult. This was everything 💃🏻 she’s amazing
She's gifted by God himself
This is perfection. What a wonderful voice.
She’s the star, but the two guitarists wailing licks back and forth, and the girl singing harmony, seal the deal.
The poetry in her work, both lyrically and musically, is remarkable. It reaches deep inside of me.
"and a cross from a faith that died before Jesus came."
She is beautifully incredible gifted. My God !!!
She always takes my breath away. Her voice incredible. I love her causes and passions.
Awesome song by an incredible performer! Rock on Sarah!!!

I started listening to her when I was 17...., I'm 45 now.....her music never ages.👍
I've been listening to her since my senior year in high school and I'm 44.
Im almost 60 and Possession was the first Sarah song for me. Not a song she sings that I dont love!

This song, this video! OMG!
The way Sarah makes beautiful poetic music from such a scary experience is phenomenal! I feel blessed to hwve been at this tour. I relate! ❤
Her voice, tender, strong. And just plain amazing
Listen as the wind blows
From across the great divide
Voices trapped in yearning
Memories trapped in time
The night is my companion
And solitude my guide
Would I spend forever here
And not be satisfied
And I would be the one
To hold you down
Kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
And after I'd, wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear
Through this world I've stumbled
So many times betrayed
Trying to find an honest word
To find the truth enslaved
Oh you speak to me in riddles and
You speak to me in rhymes
My body aches to breathe your breath
Your words keep me alive
And I would be the one
To hold you down
Kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
And after I'd, wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes, dear
Into this night I wander
It's morning that I dread
Another day of knowing of
The path I fear to tread
Oh, into the sea of waking dreams
I follow without pride
Nothing stands between us here
And I won't be denied
And I would be the one
To hold you down
Kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
And after I'd, wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear
I'll hold you down
Kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
And after I'd wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes...
It almost frightens me how much these lyrics are me.

My favorite version of this song. In fact, this is one of my favorite live versions of any song. And how she holds that final note... holy #%$@&!!
A goosebump-inducing performance. Love Sarah!
Saw Sarah live in 94, incredible stuff, and that last note says it all
I love it when it starts out slow and then it builds up to a strong conclusion.

How eloquently She made a beautiful song of a terrifying experience. A man was stalking her a real threat. She overcame and even appears to have understood his out of control feelings.

Yes God used her through her experience and she used the lyrics indirectly from him , her stalker
I've just seen awesome! What she does with that note at the end.....incredible!
All of us here know how extraordinary her vocalizing is, but it’s the energy she puts into her songs.
love the homage to joni mitchell 's "blue" at the start
