I was glad the most negative stereotype I experienced when I came out in 1984 was not on your list in 2022: Gay relationships don't last. This year my husband and I are celebrating our 30th anniversary and my older brother and his husband are celebrating their 50th.

Older gays also made it easier for bisexual men, in the same generation, to come out later in life. So I thank all of you for being on the frontline of those battles. Sorry I couldn't help back then. I regret lacking the courage to do so. I know a lot of you just didn't even have a choice.

I just found this guy. He’s good. I like his show. From a older gay guy in the wilds of Essex, England. You just heeded me up and thanks for the nod to older gays like my self that paved the way for young LGBTQ+ I’m about to subscribe because you are very interesting and I like to know what’s going on with the young gay community now that I have retired and no longer live in London. It’s good to see the visibility of gay men these days. My goodness how things have changed. When I come out to my family in the 1970’s, I was lucky to have the support of my family but it didn’t stop homophobia outside and they in the 1970’s it was horrendous . I got beat on so many time for being a open young gay man I can’t count on both hands how many black eyes I got. By the 1980’s I had moved from my small town in the north of England and setup n London. It was definitely safer to be a out and visible gay man in London back then than it is now. London is not a safe place for any one, not just the LGBTQ+ community it for everyone. Anyways I wish you all well and happy long gay lives. Take care out there, it can still be a nasty world. Stay safe, no BB or chem sex. Be good and kind to each other. Support your gay brothers and sisters. Build your community. With love and respect.

Hi Chris. Here is my two cents on those stereotypes.
    1) Regretfully I've used it. Never again. It's a waste of time and a hassle that no one needs.
    2) Nope. ;)
    3) I may not be an expert with cars, but I can fix a computer.
    4) I've never cared to find out.
    5) I've done Kung Fu and Taekwondo in the past. I'm pretty sure martial arts counts as "sport".
    6) I can drive, and while I'm not great at math, I'm no idiot.
    7) I don't drink coffee. Tea I do drink but very rarely.
    8) I'm indifferent to shopping. I don't care for fashion: as long as I feel comfortable, that's all that matters.
    9) Politics are awful. They're nothing but useless crap the lot of them!!
    10) Like hell we do!
    11) Depends on the situation.
    12) I have at least once, but that's in the past.
    13) Nope.
    14) I dyed my hair once and I didn't like it, so I rushed to undo the change. Never again.
    15) Complete and utter lie! Don't forget that straight men and women can also be hoes too!

Great video, Stereotypes are just that, different for everyone I've ever met. My favorite is a guy that says "nobody thinks I'm gay" and doing so while having painted nails and wearing makeup plus speaking with a lisp. But, there you go , that's my stereotype. Then there's the cliques at the clubs, etc. The only one that you mentioned is that we walk fast, stereotype. But every single gay guy that has a rainbow sticker on their car drives like a bat out of hell and I can never catch up to say hi!

From the perspective of a "vintage gay", more myths. Some pretty dated.
1/ We exercise a lot and/or are ripped. Bears exist.
    2/ We have sophisticated tastes.
3/ (In direct contradiction to 2). We all enjoy dance music. This personally bugged me as a Queer Punk.
4/ We're into drugs and alcohol. (Sadly for the vintage gays partially true. A lot of vintage gays/bis died young connected to drug/alcohol abuse.)
5/ We can't be religious without being closeted or child molesters.
6/ We really want to have a sophisticated female best friend we can go clothes shopping with and compliment a lot on their style. (Once I did go clothes shopping with a female friend. She asked me whether the pants made her ass look big. I commented "LOOK?!"
And this last one was wierd but I've heard a few times.
7/ We don't eat spicy food.

@David Cheater, as a Bear, yes, we do exist.
However, I must address your number 7; I happen to be Cuban, and so many non-Hispanics think that we all make our dishes super spicy. Nothing could be further from the truth. Personally, I do not eat spicy food, but my life partner (who is Gay, male and happens to be Puerto Rican) lives for spicy food. I think another stereotypes is that gays is all about sex and nothing else. I am actually a gay guy that doesn't really have a sex drive and sex does not appeal to me. I rather just have a man who I love for their personality and other attractive features. Not all gays are sex crazy robots. I do think that gets over-hyped. Being in a relationship in my opinion is not about the sex it is about the love you have for one another as individuals. There is my rant for the day. Lol.

      @@VenusEvan_1885 I'm guessing you're joking of course. :)
But like, still; personally I'm outwardly very masc, and some people initially seem to think I'm some kind of threat whenever i happen to meet someone that I happen to like, which can be a real bummer sometimes. But also, being from a rather homophobic region of a rather homophobic country, my outward presentation and general demeanor has often saved my more fem presenting friends and partners from actual physical aggression, on more than one occasion. Aggressive violent homophobes often physically shrink down into their trousers when the response they get when trying to start something with a fem presenting boy or a trans girl is met with the six foot six viking street pirate still in his sweaty builder's overalls or mechanics clothes puts an arm around their victim of choice and say's "over your dead body, bro." And then proceed to explain to them that once I've put them on the ground "their ass is mine!... Literally!" (Of course I'd never do that but it makes them feel the same kind of intimidation that they're reveling in pushing on my girl or my boy. So as far as I'm concerned they can just deal with it.)
But here's the kick to the nutts of the "fems can't fight" stereotype: I've also got several substance abuse issues and mental health problems and have subsequently found myself surviving on the streets for a combined total of 15 years...So due, i assume, to my unapologetic stance on my own sexuality, and my reputation as, i suppose, a 'hard working-class gay guy' that doesn't fit the homophobic stereotypes that are prevalent around where i live, I guess that the sexually repressed fragile masculinity crowd see it as an opportunity to "teach me a lesson" when I've unfortunately found myself in a drug and alcohol induced stupor fueled by depression and a self destructive escape from my own issues and life in general... Needless to say they could have beat me up severely, i probably would have ended up in hospital if it wasn't for my beautiful angel and their 5tf4 of pure knife-wielding rage and the hours of protection they afforded me while i deliriously made my drunken sorry ass way back to our van. She fought off a gang of four nazi bigots from the local rugby team who followed us, jeering and threatening us the whole time, half the way across town, protecting my safety at great risk to her own... But one thing is for sure, after several scuffles, she came out of it with a couple of scrapes and bruises and the super straight apes that attacked us eventually ran away, their d!cks between their legs, bloodied and beaten and shamed to their rotten cores. They're my savior, (they go by she/they, I kinda swap around between the two depending on the context and circumstance... cause that's how we like it.) Anyway, I suppose we're both what you'd call stereotype breakers...
Edit: Sorry. I maybe went and offered up way too much information there...
I guess that being single and stuck out here in the middle of the ass of rural nowhere has got to my lately... 😞

This video would’ve been way different if it had of been stereotypes for tops and bottoms specifically (vers guys are hard to stereotype outside of always getting mad when people call them bottoms lol) I’m bad at math but a great driver, a masculine top but very much into musicals, I am a horn dog at times but also want a long term monogamous relationship, I’m conservative but environmentally friendly, I’ve been on Grindr but haven’t been back on in years because I made friends instead of just hooking up, i have a great fashion sense but very rarely use it. People are individuals regardless of the group or groups the a lumped into and there are exceptions to almost every rule.

Yes, but up to a point! We also delayed the acceptance by the outrageous number of mature gays hitting on under age guys 15-18 and making life miserable for most of them. Additionally, the guys in drag, also scared many gays in the closet and their families (did Divine ever project something positive for any of us? No he didn't!) Not to mention the many fetishes that were visible that were incomprehensible to others, like my mom! I'm glad that I came out early in my teens in a town that lacked any role models for me to follow, and I'm glad that I did it, otherwise, I would have been scared, if I thought that I would have been taken in any other way than just being myself!
