    You hit the point:
If you want a car for every day use, the M240i is the better choice. I've driven an M2 LCI for 3,5 years, and I love the look and handling. But in things like long rides on bad roads or driving in winter, the M2 could be annoying sometimes. So now I've traded it for an M240i in black.

Great video Will, as you know I’ve done exactly that (sold my M2 comp for one) , I think it actually sounds better (although quieter) and when the valves are open you can still leave the throttle in comfort .
Also Will (I’m 45) and I’ve halved my insurance compared to the M2 comp and if driven reasonably sensible the fuel figures are better and that is the key here ……the M2 comp always wanted to be let of the leach ….it was horrible to drive steady but great to dive hard where as this car is great to do both in ……I must admit I really do love it and am seriously pleased with my decision.
Keep up the great vids mate 👍🏻👍🏻

As someone that owns the original M240i and has spent a little bit of money addressing its weak points (diff, suspension, camber etc.). I can’t reconcile that the new car is a £50,000 prospect and uses the same engine. However in the context of the current market it is a truly unique offering and the performance cannot be denied.

The G42 has an upgraded B58 with nearly 50 more hp than the F22. It also comes standard with a LSD, 19" wheels, and is 40% stiffer. Overall more than makes up for the size/weight increase imho. Pricing is on point with the market, it's cheaper than a less optioned Supra (w/o backseats or AWD).

My current predicament is this or a used M2 Comp. Never owned an M car (or BMW in fact) but i'm torn. New M2 is not an option as I don't fancy splashing out that much cash for one. I do have a family so this would be used for the occasional school run, the odd trip to the shops as I work from home at the moment and whenever I fancy a spirited drive. My head says M240i (as MrHCars said, the interest rates are much better on new cars - via dealer is about 10% for used cars!) but my heart says current M2 Comp. Have test driven the M240i and I thought it was good, yet to try the M2 though so will give that a go and decide.

      Just the interest alone will
Make your decision easier , I bought my M2 comp at a blistering 2.9% nearly 3 years (at 9 months old) ago and I worked out for the same car today (again 2nd hand at 8.9%) I would be paying about £280 pcm extra on what I was paying for mine …. That’s just insane …..in fact it would be nearly as cheap to get into a brand new M3 as a nearly new M2 comp pcm

    • @dangibbons9289
      @dangibbons9289 Před 2 lety

For what it’s worth, I just picked up a 70 plate M2 comp last week (traded in my f40 M135i) and absolutely love it. Easy to drive in comfort with good mpg, and then just a beast in sport plus. I bought from BMW used approved but the BMW finance was 10.9% which was ridiculous, so I used a private finance broker which you’re allowed to do (try Forza or Magnitude) and got 6.8% which was around £130pm cheaper.
I think the m240i will be incredible as well, but my quotes were coming out at circa £675pm with £8/9k deposit, which I just couldn’t get my head around for an m lite car (was also a 9 month wait best case scenario).
Just my 2 cents, as I was having the exact same predicament as you. Currently regret nothing!

Will I chop in my M2C for it, I suspect not however much like you said I think the new M2 will be in the £60k bracket and likely have some tasty options that’ll have it heading for £70k. Test drive happened on Saturday morning for a period of 90 mins unaccompanied. So in a nutshell, on a typical B road (UK) this car would keep an M2C honest. The 4 wheel drive system I believe overcomes some of the handling improvements given in an M car. On launch it is impressive and only runs a little out of steam at the top end but by then you are doing naughty speeds! The interior in terms of quality and being up to date is a step ahead of the M2C as you would expect. Looks are subjective but I would recommend the pro pack for the wheels / tyre and arch extensions which give it a better look. Overall, it really depends what you’re looking for. I’d say this range of M-light has moved the game on and is closer to M power than it’s ever been, but, they are ultimately daily cars in a way M cars aren’t without accepting the compromise they bring. If you drove the same B road in both cars at pace your going to be on your seat edge with the M2C because you need to be heavily involved as a driver, the M240i will be little slower in perfect conditions but the driver will be be far less involved. Put it this way after 90 mins in the M240i I jumped back in the M2C and took a roundabout shall we say entering ‘hot’ and the back end stepped out then snapped back in in a way that was pretty aggressive and underwear changing, the 240i did a similar hot arrival whereas the 4 wheel drive kicked in and fired me out at pace. Hope these first hand thoughts are in some way helpful. Cheers, Kevin.

I don’t doubt the M2 is a better track car but I get the impression from various reviews that it needs to have its neck rung to get the best from it which you can’t really do on our roads these days. The 240 is cracking - but it wasn’t enough to tempt me out of my 440 as I don’t think it has the same presence - but that’s down to personal opinion. A Remus rear silencer makes a difference too!

No way i sell My M2 OG for that ugly object! To heavy and sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Maybe for the new M2 butt first a test ride...

Ha, ha! Sell your BMW and buy a car that won't spend time in the shop 20% of the time! Lot's of engaging, reliable alternatives out there today. After three Beemers, I'm done. Actual daily drivers, they are not. Life is too short.

This is like saying would you dump your 30 year old supermodel girlfriend that people point at in the street for an ugly 20 year old that's a good cook, lol. Personally I'll stay OG, but enjoy.

The M240 is perfect for guys that can't swing the funds for the upcoming M2. There will always be a little doubt not having an M2 but it's a good compromise.
