    I bought three Bark River Puukko knives and here is my only complaint!
    The problem is with the leather sheaths. The leather sheaths are rather short for the size of the Puukko. (The knife keeps falling out!) The Puukko's are the only knife I cannot safely carry because of fear of losing the knife... (Bark River leather sheaths suck.)

    Ah, the days of Canoe Knives, Red Flannel, Andirondak Chairs, and Heavy Canvas Tents. All brought up river so Great Grandpa could get his Deer with his Trust Lever Gun. Keep in mind the Era those kind of knives were used in. Plus they were used mostly in the Eastern Woodlands, not out West where Bowies reigned. In fact, a Big Bladed "Camp Knife" was kept in the Hunting Camp for use by everyone in the Camp. You carried a "Companion Knife" as we call it nowadays NOT as a Seconday Blade to a Big Knife on our Bodies, but as the knife that "Kept you Company" when you headed into the Andirondaks or Poconos or Inland Maine to get your Deer. Also, the wide Fullers also allowed one to grip it with the Finger Tips to do so some Skinning on Small Game like Squirrel or Rabbit. Plus they worked okay on small fish too. So, for 1917, that knife might be "State of the Art" for the Eastern Hunters. In 2017, eh, not so sure. Looks GREAT to my eyes as an Easterner, but they should've added a Lanyard Hole if the Handle is not so "Grippy."

Nitro-B steel (Germany). Looks like a sweet chopper. Would be very interesting to see a comparison of that knife with the Kershaw Camp 10. BladeHQ has them at present.

    Bark River Knives makes some good high quality knives. you should also check out Rapid River Knife Works, they do more custom knives. to give a little history. Marble's knives used to have a factory in Escanaba MI, when Marble's went out of business a couple of the guys went off and started their own companies, one being Bark River Knives, the other being Wolverine knives which Became Rapid River Knives.

  • @xnbomb

    Very nice, but I wonder about choosing A2 over some stainless steel. I am on the water all day long (in a canoe!), and an easily rusting steel is not going to do the trick. I kinda wish Bark River would branch out a little from A2 and 3V (the two steels they seem to use a lot). They have a few stainless models, but not many. There are various Bravo variants in S35VN, which is great, but they seem to be hard to find and pricey. If they made one without a ramp that was not so expensive ... I'd buy it.

    • @lyman135
      @lyman135 Před 4 lety

      This is supposed to be close to a reproduction of a classic knife. They were not made in stainless originally. Just because you are in a Canoe as it mean you need stainless. You flip it over a lot? If you're in the Canoe it should be dry.
