      @@Kata_Rin do you have any watercolor tips for layering or blending? :)

    • @Kata_Rin
      @Kata_Rin PÅ™ed 3 lety +2

      @@virgocancer3964 you kind of made me realize I don't think about what I do very much haha! Some of this is common watercolor knowledge I think but it is what I do and I hope something helps you. I also think it depends on what you're drawing and specifically I draw people.
      For layering, I make sure to plan out the colors as a thumbnail beforehand so I know exactly what I need to create the piece. I layer colors light to dark, and I make sure that each layer is fully dry before placing down another layer. This helps prevent my work from getting muddy and my paper from getting too overloaded.
      For blending, I usually do wet on wet and let the water do the work. I lay down the colors quickly so they are on both at the same time. I might dab my brush a bit on the edge between them to make sure the colors come together better.

    Gouache reminds me a lot of tempera paint and a lot of people don’t like the mediums but I love them for my Mexican art paintings. Nothing is as opaque and bright. Also jelly gouache is quite new so all the videos I see people are trying to get a hang of it. Looking at gouache videos which are unfortunately as many as for other mediums is fun, because many painters have such a different kind of style of using it. I found this video helpful since I was looking for blending videos and I think I found answers, but now I need to test it out :). I have watched lots of James Gurneys videos, which are kind of relaxing to watch and he has quite different style :). Of course subjects are usually different than the one in the video.

    Ahhhh I’m so scared, my school accidentally purchased gouache instead of water color and now we have to have our unit project on it. Any extra tips??????

      I think they did it on purpose because gouache is cheaper than watercolours 😂

      Don't water it down too much, it makes it streaky, it's useful to know that it can also be reactivated on a palette so you can reuse a dried up colour, and the way it dries is pretty important so if you are colour matching let it dry before comparing it to another colour

      yeah, you can even get watercolors for 25 rs and gouache is so expensive. btw i do poster colours a lot, since it is a pretty good gouache alternative.

    I like your advice. Can you advise me on choosing great brushes for gouache?

    Love the video! Great tips as I struggle with gouache and I found this truly helpful. Question about the color changing. Could you make swatches of the colors like they do with watercolors so you could see how much the colors shift from dark to light or vise versa? I know it wouldn't be completely accurate as once you start adding colors they would of course change. Just a thought.

      Oh sure you can and you have!But I never paint using straight pure colours and making a swatch of every single colour while painting would take so much time because I mix so many while painting! It definitely helps with figuring out the colours, but when mixed they can behave completely differently depending on how diluted and what persentage of what colour is in the mix and also the paper can affect how the colours behave!

      @@weronoyume oh I didn't even think of that! You are completely right. If you mixed a dark and a light tone you won't know if it'll darken or lighten. Ha ha. It's all an experimentation and you hope for the outcome you want. 🤣
